  1. BuddyRich wants the lights on. Musicman doesn't want the lights on. Which one is Ford supposed to listen to?
  2. That's either a placebo effect or the result of just changing the tire pressure when they were refilled. There is no performance difference based on the type of gas in the tire (on the street).
  3. Did not realize there were 2 different types of CVTs. Thanks for the info!
  4. The laws of physics are a little hard to overcome, especially if you want 4WD. Some people just can't be pleased.
  5. 5.4L Triton 310 HP @ 5000 RPM Torque 365 @ 3500 RPM 14/18 mpg 3.5L Ecoboost 365 HP @ 5000 RPM Torque 420 @ 2500 RPM 15/21 mpg 55 more hp, 55 more lb/ft lower in the rpm band AND better mpg. What the hell else could you ask for?
  6. Ford killed their CVT in the 500/Sable/Taurus due to the added cost and complexity not being worth the efficiency gains compared to modern 6 speed autos. That's probably why Hyundai didn't use it.
  7. It has everything to do with price and fuel economy and visibility. The Prius is cheaper with max fuel economy and it looks different. The TCH and FFH look like any other Camry or Fusion, they're more expensive and they don't get the maximum fuel economy. I expect the C-max to do better than the FFH.
  8. Funny thing is I'm probably going from my 06 Fusion to a F150. I only get 17-18 mpg in my 3.0L SEL so it won't be a huge drop, plus I have other vehicles to drive. I just miss having a pickup.
  9. Just google it - tons of articles out there. Basics are to wash and wax, change the oil, get the weight off the tires so they don't flatspot, disconnect the 12V battery and put it on a trickle charger. Fill the car with fresh gas, add a fuel stabilizer (make sure it's ethanol compatible if you're using E-10) and run it for a few minutes.
  10. That was initially true but I think they changed that for 2009 or 2010 tax year - not 100% sure though.
  11. You can purchase ESP any time before the 3/36 B2B warranty expires. After the first 12 months the price goes up by $100 or so.
  12. The good news is that it failed early so it's almost certainly a defective part and not a chronic problem like the Lincoln LS/Tbirds. Those were guaranteed to fail around 75K and you had to replace all of them. Sooner if you had a valve cover gasket leak. If these are going to fail then they should all fail within warranty. And if they don't they're very easy to replace on the transverse I4.
  13. This is the first coil failure I've heard of. It's probably just an isolated bad part and not a systemic issue.
  14. I haven't seen any tests that suggest decreased performance with the correct spark plugs at 100K if the engine is otherwise running normally. The bigger issue with waiting to 100K is just getting them out of the block. Probably a good idea to take them out and reinstall them every couple of years just to keep them from seizing.
  15. No - you'll have to file an amended return for the 2009 tax year and claim the credit. Either there was an error in TurboTax or you didn't fill out the form correctly. Also I believe the FFH credit is $850, not $750 according to fueleconomy.gov. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax_hybrid.shtml Simple - because it's a temporary incentive for the automakers to invest in new technology. Regular hybrids are firmly established now and they gov't is encouraging plug-in hybrids and electric vehicle development. Those credits will also expire after the automaker sells a certain number of vehicles. The incentive is aimed at the mfrs and basically guarantees they can sell enough retail vehicles to recoup their investment. I don't necessarily agree with it - I'm just explaining the logic.
  16. But that IS the answer - you need a fluid that meets Ford spec WSS-M2C924-A. It will say so on the package or you can check the mfr website. I highly recommend taking it to a dealer and letting them flush it and replace the fluid. It will get almost all of the fluid out and you won't have to worry about it. The maintenance schedule for spark plugs and transmission fluid and everything else should be in the glovebox or you can find it online. There are no plug wires and the plugs are usually good for 100K.
  17. Exactly. What good does it to to protect the seats if you can't enjoy them?
  18. I don't work for free. Plumbers don't work for free. McDonalds fry cooks don't work for free. Expecting to buy a car at true dealer cost is asking the dealership employees to work for free. Here is a perfect example. I play a lot of tennis. I have a local store that lets me demo racquets and it gives me a place to try on shoes, clothes, pick up accessories, etc. It's convenient. I let them string my tennis racquets because that's where they make a lot of their profit. I can get it done cheaper doing it myself or getting a friend to do it. But if everybody did that then the store would go out of business and I wouldn't have a place to demo racquets or get free advice and several people would be out of a job. It's your money - do whatever you want with it. I'm done.
  19. That's because to you guys a dealer is a faceless corporation. What if the owner and/or salesperson was your best friend or your brother, sister, mother or father? Would you care if they went out of business? Or is it a case of you want them to make money off everyone else, just not you? What's wrong with everyone making a fair profit without having to rip off every other buyer to stay in business? How would you like it if everyone did that to your employer or to you personally? What happens when the local dealer goes out of business and you have to drive 30 miles to the next one - or the remaining dealers jack up their prices due to lack of local competition? You guys really are short-sighted and selfish.
  20. Yep. I just meant it pops up a couple of inches, not that it opens all the way. Sorry if that was confusing.
  21. Upgrade the phone's firmware or get a new phone. Those are your options at this point.
  22. My guess would be something in or near the blend door where the hot and cold air get blended together. Changing the heat level changes the blend door position.
  23. It should pop up - there should be a rod you can adjust to increase the tension.
  24. That's only a 45% increase in airflow through the meter. Doesn't help if the rest of the system isn't upgraded. If you've added a freer flowing exhaust and intake this MIGHT add a few hp. Stand alone it won't do anything. Intake, exhaust, tuner are your best bets for more power.
