  1. See also this thread. http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/10962-hill-start-assist-not-available-service-advancetrac-messages/
  2. Other than a mild style change and Sync 3 are the 2017's that much different than earlier years? Probably won't see major problems, but it doesn't hurt to wait a few months after any new model comes out. We were considering a 2017 (probably MKZh but possibly Fusion) since Sync 3 was announced, but probably will wait for 2018s since our 2014 Fusion Hybrid is doing so well. (50k miles and no repairs.)
  3. I couldn't find me commenting on this before although I voted "no". The only time I purchased an extended warranty was on our 1986 Taurus, which was the first year of production of a somewhat radically new design. We never had a claim. Looking back at all the years since we've never owned a car where an extended warranty would have saved money. Of course some will "win" and others "lose" but consider: 1. These ESPs would not be sold if they weren't profitable to Ford (or the third parties that offer them). This means that on average you won't get your money's worth. 2. Insurance should only be purchased if being "self insured" would be financially devastating if something did go wrong.
  4. That's been our major buzzing problem. Easily solved by wrapping the sunglasses in a glasses cleaning cloth! Items in the door cubbies also will vibrate.
  5. Well it has a motor/generator on the ICE and another on the wheels, so it can launch from stopped electrically (like our ECVT) and stop/start the ICE at red lights. But the design is intended for performance cars, not economy.
  6. Reminds me of the work done on ceramic cylinders some time ago. In either case while the 30% lost to the cooling system won't occur, without better conversion of the heat to energy (such as with a Sterling cycle engine) it's just going to go out the exhaust.
  7. Drain leaked in our 2007 Camry Hybrid. $500 to fix. We would have been happier without the sunroof (never open it and it reduces headroom by an inch). Our Fusion hybrid, it's been no problem, have plenty of headroom, and have actually used it.
  8. This just happened to me yesterday. Moving around in a hilly parking lot with sharp turns seemed to set it off. Following the advice to ignore it, the warning lights turned off after a couple of miles of driving.
  9. 40,000 on our 2014 SE and no squeaks or rattles. Yet our supposedly Japanese-perfect Camry has rattled since day one. You never know.
  10. Oh? Crazy! Back when I was in college (talking early 70's) there was a reaction tester in on of the classroom buildings. Our school had a beer bash on Fridays (I'm sure they don't anymore) and I tested myself before and after a single beer. Found my reaction time was halved. That was a "sobering" thought. No simulations involved!
  11. Suit? Seeing the title had me thinking that Ford was being sued for driving while drugged. Ford's PR writer needs to have used suite.
  12. Always possible they don't have cruise control in the first place.
  13. When we bought our 2014 Fusion two years ago we also looked at the Camry since we also have a 2007. We were surprised how little the Camry hybrid had changed in 7 years. Very disappointing for a company that virtually owns the term "hybrid". In the past two years nothing much has changed. The Fusion is far more sophisticated and there is a world of difference between Ford's hybrid at the time (the Escape) and what they have now.
  14. Our 9 year old Camry hybrid (130k miles) has the original batteries. Having the battery in the relatively cool trunk improves the battery life. This is the first time I've heard of any benefits to "stir up the electrolyte".
  15. They probably have limited space, so to add new features they have to eliminate old ones.
  16. Crude oil prices jumped up yesterday, so there is hope! (Never thought I'd root for high gas prices.)
  17. From the description it sounds like the Toyota system but for the clutch -- I'm not sure what that is about. I'm not going to say "Ford" here because the Fusion tends to run the ICE at high output or not at all (it will rarely balance the engine output to the demand at the road) while the Chrysler and Toyota appear to run the ICE over a wider range. The use of a V6 instead of a 4 reminds me of the Highlander Hybrid which other than the engine had the same platform as the Camry Hybrid. IMHO as a vehicle for "Soccer Moms" I'd think a 4 would be fine. It's not going to be used for drag racing.
  18. Best thing to do is to try out every feature in your car and the "obvious" strange noises and dripping fluids. It's winter, so make sure your AC works!
  19. Come to think of it, the air filter in my '63 VW Microbus (my first car) never needed to be replaced either for the same reason.
  20. Having had a vehicle damaged by snow chains (many years ago), I'd take that advice. The problem comes with insufficient wheel well clearance,
  21. I'm always leery of any lifetime or long life claims. Just citing Ford products here: My parents '65 Ford had 30,000 mile chassis lube interval, back in the time when most cars needed lube every 1k miles or so. It turned out that you could go 30k miles, but then they installed the Zerk fittings and you were back to the 1k interval!Same Ford had lifetime front-end alignment. They did that be getting rid of all the alignment adjustments. When it went out of alignment the mechanic used a long bar and bent the tie rod to adjust alignment! On a positive note, my '93 Ranger had 100k mile plug replacement interval. When I hit 100k the dealer checked a plug, said they were all right and I didn't need to replace them. All my cars from then on all have had platinum plugs that seem to last forever.
  22. My son has a Tesla (without the self driving features) but had a loaner with those features while his was undergoing routine maintenance. I got to ride in it. It isn't perfect -- it will follow the car ahead into turn lanes rather than keep going straight. It does wander a bit and isn't smooth with speed control (although it is capable of coming to a complete stop if the car ahead stops). I found it drives much like a new driver would. Maybe as the system matures it will get better!.

    2017 Fusion

I just spotted that the Daytime Running Lights are back to being a fleet only option. So it will be back to battling dealers to get it enabled. :(

    2017 Fusion

Ah, I'm getting my metals mixed up. This may cause some marketplace confusion. It does sound like the Platinum and MKZh could end up being very close. Just have to wait and see.

    2017 Fusion

For me the win will be Sync 3. I'd like to see them squeeze in more trunk space, but it seems like that won't happen. Styling changes seem minor, which is a good thing for resale value of our current Fusion. What's the difference between the 2017 Platinum and the 2013-2016 Platinum? Getting rid of the gear shift lever is a plus. It's just an overgrown electrical switch -- not a mechanical level to the transmission at all! As another step toward reality, it would be nice if they got rid of the fake auto transmission "creep" when stopped. Looking to get a 2017 Fusion hybrid or Lincoln MKZh. Our 2014 has been great but is missing some options that I expected.
