  1. I half expect my Ford dealer to show up on my EV+ list due to the numbers I've had to visit them to address issues.
  2. But as Jean said, they weren't widely available back in March when she was buying a car.
  3. Then I wonder why my FFH isn't learning my work location.
  4. Thanks, I found the update and am downloading it now. I'll probably install it tomorrow.
  5. Mine relearned home pretty quickly, but only comes on about 1/8 a mile from home. It still hasn't figured out my work location, but maybe because the GPS signal disappears right as I enter the parking garage my FFH hasn't figured out that the last known GPS location before it is turned off is my work location. Any details on this MFT update and how to know if I need it?
  6. I also think that even the eco mode is a little fast when getting up to speed, I'd also like to see it be a little less aggressive with slowing down when cruise speed is reduced. I almost always use adaptive cruise control in eco mode when on highways, it keeps me at a consistent driving speed and is one less thing to pay attention to. Recently I've started to suspend the cruise control when I want to either speed up or slow down so that I can feather the speed change better in hopes of squeezing out a slightly better fuel economy. A perfectly attentive driver could probably get a slightly better fuel economy than the eco cruise can; however, I tend to think that the cruise control is probably the best way to consistently get the best fuel economy.
  7. Here's the SkiTrack for my trip home this morning from my camping trip near Fryburg Maine. The EXIF data of the photo of me and my FFH contains the exact GPS coordinates of our campsite on the Saco River. The Saco River also flows through Saco where I live so this trip was a net loss of a couple hundred feet in elevation. Max speed limit was 55mph. I didn't run cruise control this time, because I wanted to try and maximize EV mode time. I got 56.9 mpg for the trip.

Just got back from an awesome camping and canoe trip. See the photo's EXIF details for campsite's GPS coordinates. Afraid I couldn't take MaineFusion on the canoe so it had to stay back at camp. Very rustic campground, only facility is outhouses, but campsites are monster large and way far apart from each other. Our campsite was right on the Saco River. We were supposed to have a beach, but rains a few days earlier had caused the river to be run about five feet higher than normal.

  9. Someone already mentioned it in these forums, but I really wish Ford would do some research into why some FFH, like mine, get exceptionally good MPG while others absolutely miserable MPG. It would be nice to point to specific causes rather than just saying it is driving style and/or they got a lemon. Maybe there are a combination of factors that include both driving style and issues with the electronics like bad sensors or something. I'm sure there are plenty of people in both camps on these forums, my self included who would be more than happy to participate in any research to figure this issue out.
  10. My FFH arrived in mid February and break-in period hadn't really completed until some time in May, so I won't find out how my winter MPG is until this coming winter. I'm doing what I can to pad my lifetime MPG now before winter takes it down a few notches.
  11. Just stop driving 80mph and be late to things,or insist on taking her car when running late. Eventually, she'll start allowing more time if she wants to take more time. Either that or she'll find some way to make your life miserable in some way. That should help!
  12. When driving on country roads below 45mph, I can get 63mpg or higher. For the trip profile graphed in the Ski Track below, I get around 49mpg when I set the top speed plateau to 65mph and around 51mpg when set to 63mpg. The slower head and tail speeds along with the 55mph zone bring my average trip speed to around 50mph and help to bring up my over all MPG for those commutes. On longer trips with higher average trip speeds, I'd expect lower MPG. I normally keep my tire pressure at 35psi. The Maine Turnpike, which I drive for my commute and which is profiled below, is in pretty good condition overall. Oftentimes, when not commuting to work, I will stick to secondary roads with speed limits of 45mph and less to go to the mall, shopping etc., which helps pad my overall MPG. In Maine, all our roads are slightly rolling which works well with the FFH regen and EV cycle. Lately I've been able to stay in EV mode around 40% of the time overall. Another trick I do is to avoid accelerating so hard off a stop that the car kicks in the ICE until I'm over 15mph. Remember an internal combustion engine has zero torque at zero MPH, where as an electric motor has 100% torque. Allowing the electric motor to accelerate the car off the stop gives the car time to get to a speed where the ICE will have decent torque and thus run more efficiently.
  13. Here is my Trip 2 at 2,654mi (50.6mpg) and my overall lifetime (never reset so true lifetime for car from factory). Trip 2 only shows 193mi for EV mode, when it is actually 1,193mi because the tripometers can't show EV miles past 999.9mi. The regen miles are messed up because the PCM software update reset this. I'm hopeful that I can bump up my lifetime MPG average by 0.2mpg by the end of this week based on how quickly it has been increasing for the past couple of days.
  14. Thanks for the responses. Looks like another thing to add to the punch list. On the bright side, I almost never have to pay for car washes since the dealer washes the car every time I bring it in. ;-)
  15. Okay, I kind of missed posting for the 1,000 mi challenge, but here is my Trip 2 at 2,654mi (50.6mpg) and my overall lifetime (never reset so true lifetime for car). What is odd is that Trip 2 shows only 193mi for EV mode, when it is actually 1,193mi. It seems the tripometers can't show EV miles past 999.9mi. The regen miles are messed up because the PCM software update reset it.
  16. I just noticed today that the back seat ceiling handles are not springing back up to the ceiling the way my front ceiling handles do. Do other people's rear ceiling handles stay up against the ceiling or do they hang down? I must say, these fit and finish issues are starting to get annoying.
  17. Now you would think that a mechanic at a Ford dealership would know how to properly lift a Ford Fusion, but today when I was looking under my car trying to find the reason for a noise, I notice two spots on a body panel where it ties to the undercarriage were bent, apparently because a mechanic used them as lift point. There are arrows pointing to where the lift points are, but they are a little further back under the body of the car and are recessed up behind the body panel. So this is yet another thing that I have to bring to the shop manager's attention when I go in this coming Friday to have the shim installed on the half-shafts. My advice, if you take your FFH in to a mechanic other than a Ford dealer (who should know better), Make sure they know the lift points are not at the edge of the undercarriage. Also, if for some reason you try to jack your own car up, make sure to find the proper lift point.
  18. Hybridbear, I'm not sure I'd post a map of my exact start and end points if either were my home or work locations. You never know who is lurking in forums like this. It is almost as bad as announcing that one is going on vacation on one's Facebook profile.
  19. Well there's your problem! ;) From my experience, I've observed that at highway speeds, the FFH tends to lose 1mpg for each 1mph increase in speed. When driving on country roads below 45mph, I can get 63mpg or higher. For the trip profile graphed in the Ski Track below, I get around 49mpg when I set the top speed plateau to 65mph and around 51mpg when set to 63mpg. The slower head and tail speeds along with the 55mph zone bring my average trip speed to around 50mph and help to bring up my over all MPG. On longer trips with higher average trip speeds, I'd expect lower MPG. Here in Maine, the majority of people drive within 5mph of the posted speed limit. When I head south to Boston, people in Massachusetts drive way faster, and are crazy drivers. :peelout: I also find setting a cruising speed that doesn't require me to pass very often makes for very relaxing commute and a great way to start/end my work day. I never loved driving so much as I do now that I have a FFH.
  20. Just because the app is recording data every second doesn't mean the smartphone is actually updating GPS coordinates that often. I don't know how often my phone updates, but it also misses complete stops in my elevation profiles. Also, depending on where your phone is placed, it might not be getting a full range of GPS satellites causing it not to get as good of a position lock as it might otherwise. my profile looks smooth because: I'm driving on cruise control in eco mode and typically don't have traffic that is causing the car to adjust its speed;GPS signal quality, I lock my phone into a windshield mounted holder so that its GPS antenna doesn't get too much interference;I regularly update my phone's AGPS data cache;my commute is fairly long so the graph gets compressed to the point you don't see small fluctuation in speed/elevation.Most phones can't be manually forced to update their AGPS data cache, however, my phone is rooted and I have an app called "GPS Test Plus" that will force an AGPS update on rooted phones.
  21. That's due to the frequency at which your smartphone updates its GPS location.
  22. I too look at MPG and saved money from the long term perspective. I also look at it as: 1) doing my part to reduce our country's dependence of imported fuels; and 2) trying to reduce my carbon footprint best I can.
  23. I've had similar noises that I would have sworn were coming from my dashboard. Turned out to be the keys hanging off my FFH key fob. It seems the shape of the cabin can cause noises to seem to come from where they aren't.
  24. I hope the rest of us aren't expected to write our responses as poems! Several years ago I had a Jeep do the same basic thing to me on a freeway in heavy traffic. Had no time to think about it, I had to just act to avoid a collision. I suspect it is a combination of bad blind spots on Jeeps combined with an aggressive nature of Jeep drivers. Face it, Jeeps don't appeal to safety conscious drivers.
  25. Thanks, I'll show more over time. I'm working on refining that blibs I keep getting when I transition from 65/63 to 55 and from 55 back to 63/65.
