44 MPG seems like a very healthy number. I didn't buy my Fusion to obsess over milking the last MPG out of it. I am happy with the car and anything over 40 is great in my book. Glad your car is working out!

What are the green lines in the display
fusionTX replied to clummus's topic in Advanced Driver Assistance Technologies
My manual says it will work at 40 MPH or above (p. 204) , and that is what I have experienced. -
I only use it for road trips. I do not use it for everyday driving.

Bluetooth Stopped Working and now cannot connect.

This is a known problem that occurs from time to time. See pinned thread for solution. http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6474-how-to-reset-myford-touch-wout-losing-your-presets/ -
This is good information and it works. Maybe it should be pinned somewhere in a "solutions" thread.

Some people call it two-way, others call it four-way. It depends how you look at it. Even Ford literature has been inconsistent on this. I've seen called two and four way.

What are the other 2.5 miles? There is difference between driving the same route Monday thru Friday, from not having a set routine every day.
-
I think if I was driving short trips every day, I would have a hard time getting 40 MPG. I'm thinking your driving routine is a big part of your current mileage. Probably nothing wrong with the car. You did get decent mileage on your trip to Florida.
-
It only works above certain speeds (40 maybe). Also, you have to make sure it can see the lines on the road. If it shows a white line on the display, it won't do anything. I see the white line on the display sometimes even when the lines on the road are perfectly clear.

Are you using acdii's grill cover? If so, I'm not sure your numbers are a proper comparison to the rest of us.
-
What are your typical trips like? How many miles? Highway or city streets? I can see how retirement use could be shorter distances and less structured than those of us thst drive the same route five days a week. Would like to hear about you normal use.

My commute to work is 12 miles if I take the highway, 10 miles if I take backroads. That seems long enough to get some decent MPG numbers. But I can't help but wonder what my mileage would be if my commute was longer. I reset my Avg MPG every day during my commute to work, and I see it increasing every step of the way. If it were two or three more miles, I think I would get even better mileage. One thing I've noticed is that any time you get on a highway, you need to stay on it for a while to recoup the energy it takes to get up to highway speeds. I fully believe there are subpar cars out there, but I wonder if the majority of people unhappy with MPG, drive daily routes that are not conducive to high mileage in this car. I know my mileage suffers on weekends when my drives are less structured and shorter distances. It seems many of the people getting superb mileage drive fairly long distances. What is the correlation between distance and mileage? What is the average minimum distance to travel to maximize mileage? Those with low MPG numbers, can you describe your typical commutes?

Great idea Guardian_Bob, but instead of a tooltip, wouldn't it be easier for users if you just write out what each acronym means? On my ipad, there is no mouse to hover over an item.

I printed up the TSB and went to a dealer (not my dealer) and asked for parts to be ordered. I was told this was not a safety issue and they could not order parts until I, and the shop, verified there was a problem. I have not heard the noise yet, but it bothers me that I have to wait until there is an actual problem to get this fixed. Either there is a design problem or there is not. My car falls within the dates that the TSB applies to.

How does blind spot monitoring work.
fusionTX replied to clummus's topic in Advanced Driver Assistance Technologies
So besides the dot that illuminates there are these other symbols on the side mirrors (kind of looks like a car passing another) that i have never seen light up. Are these supposed to ever light up? If so, under what conditions? All i ever see is the dot light up when there is a car in my blind spot. -
There is a big difference MPG-wise between 70 and 75
-
For Houston highways, this works best. The heavier the traffic, usually the better the MPG (within reason). On a long trip, I would go crazy if I had to drive at 62, but on a city highway, it's no big deal as long as you stay out of the way on the right.
-
I am willing to drive 60 to 62 on Houston highways, as that makes little difference in time in getting where I am going. But anytime I have to take a road trip out of town, I would have a hard time going below 70. I fully agree with B25Nut.

As Hybridbear mentioned, the avg MPG can be reset very easily from many screens. Unlike the other averages, there are no elapsed time or number of miles associated with this average. It is just there to use for whatever you want to measure. For instance, when I go to run errands with several stops, I reset the average at the beginning. After I get home, I get to see the average for all my errands (usually not great). Also, I frequently reset it before starting on my commute to work, and watch it work its way up as I approach work, at the end of the trip it matches the trip summary, as long as I reset it as soon as I start the car. This Avg MPG is visible from many screens so it is very useful and easy to use. I fully agree the manual does a horrible job explaining the averages and their uses.

And I would have to say disappointing Energi numbers, i can see why the Fusion energi isn't selling so well, with its high premium, but the Cmax is reasonably priced, but isn't selling any better.

No, the MPG that shows up as you are driving, is not lifetime. This MPG is called Avg MPG. It can easily be reset from any of the empower/engage screens by holding the OK button. I regularly do this before starting a trip to see the average as the trip progresses. Lifetime Avg is shown at the end of a trip. It can also be reset thru a different menu. In summary, there are three averages the car keeps for you. Avg MPG - which is easily reset and I use for daily averages, or weekend averages or daily commutes. i reset this regularly as it gives me good feedback n a trip. Lifetime MPG - which I have reset a couple of times, but really is intended to track you long term MPG average. Trip 1 and 2 - which can be used for tank average and keeping track of different segments of a long trip. The whole average thing can be confusing, and I think even some long time owners, have not figured it all out. It took me a while before I realized Avg MPG and Lifetime MPG are completely different.

Very strong month for Toyota all around.

Your are getting better mileage than the great majority of owners, and you seem to do it consistently. Can you describe your commute on which you achieve these numbers? Your either doing something really right or you have a very favorable commute or a little of both. My commute is not as long as yours, and that may be part of where the difference comes in.
