You didn't get the seat occupant detector option? You have to have that to program the Nav system from the passenger side! (standard on Titanium) :-) But you CAN enter a destination by voice. "Navigate to...

Not at all but which part? I know I can say a destination but can the passenger enter navigation data?

 

Honestly I never even tried that I my wife's Explorer.

I know you were joking, but the "seat occupant detector" is actually standard on all Fusions. The problem is there's no way to ensure that it's only the passenger that would be inputting the data. What would stop somebody from just putting a big bag of salt on the passenger seat, buckling the seatbelt and then programming the Nav?

No, the data on the card is the data on the card. You can swap them around between cars as much as you want though.

Thats good to know, I use the NAV more than she will, so swapping the A6 to the Fusion is good. I still have a spare A4 card somewhere too.

Yeah, I know it's standard. Used for the seat belt warning and air bags, right? And you're right about people trying to "trick" the system, so no one can do it. It's way easier to just talk to Samantha anyway. The other thing you can do (in the US anyway) is hand your passenger your phone and let him/her put the destination into an app like "send to car" or "Sync Destinations" and download it to the Nav system. Works great!

This doesn't always work though. We tried to do this lots on our California road trip and the Sync Destinations app often gave us a message saying: "Your vehicle has been detected as in motion. This functionality is not available while your vehicle is in motion." It was really frustrating when my wife couldn't send addresses to the car from the app. Turning off BT and restarting the phones would sometimes trick it to let her send data to the car but sometimes even after restarting the app would still lock us out. But the app doesn't always lock us out...I'm not sure how it detects that the car is in motion either.

Also if you use a USB stick or SD card it lets browse thru every album/song and artist it has indexed.

Mine are all iPod "classic" types: 30GB, 120GB, 160GB and they all lock out the screen when connected via USB. That's why I wish there was also a regular mini jack in the media hub.

Yeah, MFT is the touchscreen I was referring to in my OP. I guess I didn't say that clearly enough. I usually browse by voice then select on MFT screen. As I understand it, the iPhone screen doesn't get locked out and you can browse the music on your phone freely. That's what I've heard anyway. I don't have one, so no first hand experience, but other people on here have said that. When I originally responded to acdii's post above, "And YET you can browse your music files while driving." I thought he was referring to an iPhone screen.

Right. So you can't use your cell phone for Sync Destinations while driving and you can't enter Navigation data while driving but you can browse your music on the MFT screen while driving.

OK, now I'm confused. Why can't you use your cell phone to download a destination to the Nav using an app? OK, OK, because it tells you you're in motion, right? My phone screen isn't locked out or anything. All I do is enter the destination in "Send to Car" and click on send (if driving, my passenger can do this). Then press the sync button on the steering wheel and say "Services" when it prompts, and it automatically connects to sync services and downloads the destination to the nav. On the Nav screen, you will see "download complete" and you will hear sync services disconnect. Press "Set as Dest" on the MFT screen and you're done. You can't do that?

 

If not, maybe it's because Sync Destinations was provided by Ford and it checks to see if you are in motion somehow. Send to Car was created by a smart individual and is not related to Ford in any way. Maybe it doesn't have motion detection capability. Try it.
