Compressor stays on when ac button off

I thought the latest mft update fixed the ac issues but the other night is was really nice outside and I was on the hwy so I decided to turn off the a/c by the button and just let outside air blow in on low. Well the whole trip the ac was deff on because it was freezing me out when it was 76 outside.. Any ideas?

To turn the AC compressor off first turn Max A/C on. The buttons will light for Max A/C, A/C and Recirc. Then turn the A/C button off. The Max A/C and A/C lights will go out. Then turn Recirc off. Now, the compressor will be off and the fan will blow outside air into the cabin.

I thought the updates had cured the climate issues but on one trip yesterday turning the climate on immediately set it to Auto and A/C. It had been doing just fine for the six days since the update. I had to use the method NickP outlined, which is a pain, especially since you have to take your eyes off the road for so long. The BS update also hasn't cured that problem.

But the PCM update continues to give me outstanding results MPG wise. I had my first 40+ mpg morning commute today, and last night's trip home was 52.8 mpg.

The PCM update does fix this, 13b07. But the update for MFT has nothing to do with anything other than the MFT system.

I got the PCM update. And I checked I can go 70mph for short distances in full EV. So i guess that means its not fixed?

Eddie you originally asked if if the MFT update fixed the climate issue, which it did not.

I have had no further issues with my ac since the 13b07 update, when i used to hit the ac button to turn it off the kw climate usage stayed right where it was even though the light on the dash went out.

Now when I turn on the climate system an the ac comes on when turn it off the kw climate power drops to almost the bottom of the meter, my guess is the small amount of power showing has to do with the fan still running to move cabin air around.

Also and maybe someone else can confirm this, there is a patch for the original13b07 update maybe that was a change that was made in the software for the climate control. I cant confirm this because i did not get the original patch. All i know is that currently when I press off on the ac and the light goes out the compressor shuts off.

If the patch update I read about does change that it could be it. But my car got updated the day of the patch release so I may have that patch too.

 

Is your max AC turned on when you hit the ac button and it turns off?

 

 

I know it stayed on the other day because it was about 78* outside and it was blowing icecubes.

So looking at the power consumption in MyView it shows .5 kW and when we went for dinner tonight the car had been baking in the sun all day with 90 deg temps the climate bar never reached over 2.5 kW.

 

So just the AC is still running with the button off which is really odd but it's still cooling the air to be comfortable and doesn't cost much energy.

But if its nice outside and not crazy humid. Wouldnt you rather take that little bit of power consumption and just vent in outside air?

 

And I read this about the prius not the fords but that 0.5kW is alot more power than you would think. Being its high voltage too that may be the same as running your microwave at your house. It all adds up for sure. Even if its only 1mpg, its still 1mpg.

 

Atleast im not gonna kill myself like that prius dude did when his MPG dropped going up a hill in traffic...

Btw the trip the JJ's returned a whopping 25 MPG but a also left the car running while getting the sandwiches.

Eddie i just went out and gave this a try to confirm the info im giving you is correct in my case for my car. That is all i have to go by.

So i start the car and i hit auto the temp is set at 70 (outside temp here is about 80 so its warm in the cabin) the system starts with the ac on not max ac, i watch the kw climate bar which is about 3 1/2 segments up the range. When I hit the ac button and the light goes out the kw climate bar drops down to the first half of the first segment.

I should also add that i have had the TSB for the fan coming on full blast when using remote start, not that it has much to do with it, but it seems you guys get max Ac on and i have not had that happen since i got that tsb

Thanks for double checking. Ill have to look into the TSB for the fan coming on just to see if maybe thats some form of AC system reprogram.

 

Is that one where the fan comes on full speed on remote start for the AC or the engine or what? Or if you can direct me to a post about it that would be great.

Well I tested the process with max ac to turn it off and it does.. Can anybody else with the pcm update verify they have the same issue? Just want to have a few people more check. Thanks

It doesn't fully shut off unless you use the max on/ac off procedure. I don't know why Ford decided to have the AC compressor running even though you turn it off, but neither update corrected that yet.

I've found that it shuts off by simply switching the AC button to "off" and then turning the fans somewhere specific (torso, legs, etc.). This is starting from the Auto position.

 

I do this rather than the Max AC thing. Seems to work the same way.

I found last nite after having it turned off to ride with the windows down when I rolled up my windows they fogged up and it took a good 60seconds with the defroster on before the compressor decided to come on. I thought it was messed up :/
