Software upgrade

Ok I just had Fords fix for the gas mileage to my FFH done yesterday. This was a software upgrade to make it be able to go 85 in Electric mode (instead of 62) and change the grille shutters some. Not sure what else they did but I am going on a trip next week and will post the results. I really don't think it will make much, if any difference in my car. I still think I got a lemon and probably bad batteries. I got the e-mail Monday and they said they had the software upgrade for all the FFH's so I had them do the mod yesterday. Wish me luck! :)

There are, but MXGOLF is one of those who has one of the under performing cars, and I for one am very interested to see his results. I would like to keep this one open for his updates, hopefully he can keep us updated like Hybridbear did during his trips. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am still going to be in Oregon in the first of October MX. I hope you get relief, but I would still love to side by side test our two cars. I live in very hilly (can you say mountainous) terrain and I have learned some tricks (or think I have). So let's get together when I am up there either way to see what's us. Any other FFH's in Washington and Oregon are welcome as well. Let's start a thread about a Northwest get together in Oct! :)

Thanks rjent, I would love to hook up to see your tricks in October and I am planning on up dating this thread after I get back home on August 12th. Just going to Wallowa Lake for a blues festival and some R&R. 400+ miles each way I think. One thing I noticed about the update is no more compass just the stupid leaves. LOL The compass was weird anyway. If you are going North, East and West are opposite of where they should be. Must be a digital thing or something.

Quite a few of the updates were not done correctly the first time, mine included. I brought mine back to be done correctly. They kept mine overnight so they can bring in a "Ford technician". I would call the dealership back and ask them to do it again.

Mine goes in tomorrow, but I have a few other items to be done, rotate tires, oil change, and fix the paint on the rear bumper, so it wont be 30 minutes for me.

Update successfully applied!

 

 

First feedback it seems nothing is broken so that's good and it seems more willing to charge th HVB during acceleration and ICE running but the throttle seems even more sensitive it's really "hard" to keep EV mode while accelerating.

 

Driving from the dealer o work same result which I'm not unhappy with.

Heading on my trip tomorrow so I will update as I go. Around town not much has changed at all in the week since I had the update done. Still only a 30 some MPG car. :(

Well, I got the car back for the second time, and guess what? It's still wrong. The service advisor told me some B.S. about how once the software is updated, it can't be repeated. He told me that when the tech took it for a drive, it registered 50mpg. Really? Then how come my trip home registered 28mpg????? And when I exceeded 62mph on the highway (which I intentionally did), the engine screen said the ICE was on due to "high speed". I called the service manager to complain, and he told me to bring the car back on Monday and he will have the tech drive with me. FYI, when I picked the car up today, it also was not washed or vacuumed, and the door to the battery in the trunk was open and laying on the floor. How professional!

 

Then I called another Ford dealer and made an appointment to being it to them tomorrow to repeat the software upgrade.

If they get it done correctly, then I will start the process of complaining about the original dealers service department, both to the dealership manager, to Ford Customer Service, and on local review pages.

When you get the car back this time, get in and turn the car on and then off. Look at the regenerative brake score. If it reads 0 the update was properly applied. Hope this helps...

Why is it so complicate for some dealers to get this done right and treat their customers like they want them to come back? Makes no sense to me...

The dealers and mechanics aren't perfect, but stuff like that on a car this complicated

is indeed frightening...

 

Lots of us have had it done without issue. Does seem that some dealers are

operating on a "satisfaction prevention" policy...

hermans, thanks for the tip about the brake score. Will this work if when I pick it up, they start the car and bring it around to me? Is this only the first time I start the car?

 

smr2112, the dealer is Pompano Ford in Pompano Beach, Florida. What bothers me most about this is that this is the dealership from which I purchased the vehicle, and it was the most positive car-buying experience I have ever had. I had been there in August 2012 for a Fusion "Introduction" event, and when I went in December to purchase the car, he remembered me - when he greeted me, he said, "you were here for the Fusion Intro, right?" I had received the $750 discount coupon from Ford, and had it in my folder, ready to press him for the discount, and before I could even bring it up, he told me, "there was a $750 discount promotion, so I applied it to your paperwork." I have since sent 2 other customers to buy their Ford vehicles from them. So to get such poor service is such a disappointment. BTW, I have brought the car in twice before for minor electrical glitches (auto-up windows keep needing to be reset), and each time they told me the same thing - "we couldn't duplicate the problem, so we couldn't fix anything."

 

The car goes to AutoNation Ford tomorrow AM - they confirmed that the software update can be done again even if it was done once already.

That is extremely helpful, thank you! I will bring the car to AutoNation tomorrow, tell them I will wait for it (they said it takes about 90 minutes), and I'll let them know that I do not want them to start the car after it's finished - I'll print this and bring it with me.

That might be a problem. Their insurance coverage probably doesn't allow customers in a service area.

HMMMMM, I hadn't thought of that. If I can't do it, I should be able to tell when I get on the expressway at over 62mph. When I did that today at 70mph, the engine info screen indicated ICE due to "High Speed".

You can also check your lifetime regen miles they are getting reset as well and even if they drive it it should be a small number!

They didn't with mine, they just updated and gave it back to me.

 

Just thought of something else as well and as mentioned before. If you go over 62 MPH the EV threshold frame doesn't go away anymore as long there is some decent SOC in there.
