Black not black?

So I asked the dealer when purchasing the car why the Black paint had color reflecting out of it. It almost looks like glitter was mixed into the paint. He said since its a hybrid they try to of everything so you don't have to run the AC. Thus the black paint has other colors to help reflect the light away from the car to keep it cooler inside.

 

So is this car sells man speaking truth or fiction? Is the reason the black paint isn't just black is to help with the temps within the cabin?

The paint color is "tuxedo black metallic". You're seeing the metallic part. The Ford paint has large "metallic" specks which make the car not look black under some light. I believe I read somewhere on the Ford Media site that they used glass in the paint for reflection but I can't find it now.

Oh man, suppose he said it only comes on the Hybrids too! LOL Ooops guess someone forgot to tell that to Ford, no wonder the body shop wasnt able to match the paint, Ford used HYBRID paint on my Flex! :hysterical: :hysterical3:

Being an engineer who has worked MANY different jobs ranging from chef to forester to caddie, I have a vast amount of knowledge about a lot of different things. I am no master in any one of these areas, but I have the dangerous ability to BS 50% of the subject with a 80% chance of being correct. This puts me in a special situation to know when and where to apply this BS. Giving a design presentation to Exxon reps, no. Negotiating for products or services, yes.

 

This salesman was in a situation that I would compare to giving a presentation to Exxon reps. No BS or else you lose your integrity.

I did an experiment once between a black car and a sliver car. Both sat in full sun all day, both cars were very hot when I got in. So my scientific conclusion is, no matter how reflective the paint is, when the car sits out in the hot sun all day, its gonna get hot inside! LOL :)
