HenryVIII Report post Posted July 25, 2013 Have any of you all noticed improvements in fuel efficiency between different brands of gas? My friend has been running Sunoco in his F-150 and he's said that he gets the best fuel efficiency using Sunoco gas in the Mid-Atlantic area. I just want to see if other people are noticing improvement in performance and mileage between different brands of gas as well. Since different brands of gas do make a difference (usually additives and such) in both performance and fuel economy. Thanks for your input! 1 vangonebuy reacted to this

mokee Report post Posted July 26, 2013 Around here, not much difference between brands, its all crap. That's because we have to buy EPA mandated special formulation. I worked on the carb on one of my outboards last week. The fresh gas I used sure didn't smell like gasoline.
acdii Report post Posted July 26, 2013 Smells like Benzine more than gasoline.
MXGOLF Report post Posted July 26, 2013 We have crappy gas here in Oregon. I use Chevron but it's probably all the same. Does everyone use regular and not plus or super?
vangonebuy Report post Posted July 26, 2013 I have been using Sunoco, But last 2 tanks were BP.Better price. I really didn't see any difference.
djminfll Report post Posted July 26, 2013 I always fill up with 87, and I use one of three stations, all on opposite corners, all the cheapest in the area: MarathonRaceTracValero Currently paying $3.56/gallon for regular.
expresspotato Report post Posted July 26, 2013 Yeah here in Toronto I tend to prefer Shell gasoline, but its at a higher price and usually go to Petro for the points or Husky because its cheap. No real differences here in the hybrid MPG seems unaffected.
anguyen Report post Posted July 27, 2013 I get 40-50 miles per tank on my 06" Honda Odessey with Valero, BP, Citco, Cononco, SAM's Club Costco vs Shell, Exxon, Chevron, and the worst mileage is Texaco. All the test are done on the same way I traveled, and all test are done within new oil change. aaronj1159 Report post Posted July 27, 2013 I feel like WilcoHess gasoline does well for me. It's all the same price here but I have done better with it than with Shell for some reason.
rfruth Report post Posted July 27, 2013 All gas (in the US) has to meet certain detergent levels etc. Some will say Techron rules & if you feel that way go to your local local parts house or Target & get some cause there isn't enough in Chevron gas to make any difference
jsolan Report post Posted July 27, 2013 I used to get my worst mileage with Giant (grocery store) gas.My dad claims he gets terrible mileage with Sheetz gas in his F150, but I've never had much trouble with it.I've never found a brand that performs better, only ones that perform worse. I may have to try sunoco next time.

jeff_h Report post Posted July 28, 2013 Sheetz is a wondrous place. I just don't get gas there. haha. I fill up there about half the time and it's been fine... other half is at Wawa, also been fine even though they are not name brand gas (though I see the same tank company filling up at the Richmond terminal and stopping at these places and also at name brand places, but shhhhh don't tell anyone). It's not on my normal route. I generally stick with Hess just for that reason. The only time I've seen a legitimate dropoff in performance that COULD (but also could very well not) be attributed to gas is when I stopped at a Shell in WV. Upon returning home, my normal commute was not up to par. There were no other changed variables that I know of, but who knows. The Shell here has never done me wrong.
