Recall Notice FUEL DELIVERY MODULE REPLACEMENT

Had it done today, they weren't worried, this Dealer actually has the proper tools and equipment to take the tank out in any state of fill.

They even can have two mechanics working on it at one time if they need to, can you believe it??

It has 1/2 full and the job was done in <2 hours. It was still 1/2 full when I got the car back.

I had the fuel delivery module replaced about 10 days ago. Had half tank of fuel and could not tell any was missing by the gauge. However, I filled up this morning and mpg calculated at 38.8 while my trip meter said 42. Based on my previous comparisons I should have gotten 40.5 on this tank. By my calculations it appears the fuel pump change out took almost a half gallon. Sounds like a lot since they had a lift that let them drop the tank without draining it. Wouldn't think a fuel pump would hold more that a few ounces of gasoline. Anyway, I think there was a couple quarts of fuel lost in the process. You who have had it done might double check your mileage on that tank.

Had our FFH in for a evaporative leak (third time seems to be the charm) and they have had the tank out for that repair. I just noticed that we now have a recall letter on the fuel delivery module. Is this the fuel pump? I wonder why they wouldn't have replaced this when the vehicle was in there one of the three times for the evaporative leaks. Is the fuel delivery module inside the tank? The evaporative recovery tank they replaced was above the tank from what I can see. Anyone have a picture of this unit? Last thing I want to do is take the vehicle back into the shop for yet one more service.

Yes, the fuel delivery module is what we used to call a fuel pump and is inside the fuel tank. They have to drop the tank far enough to be able to unbolt and remove from the top. Not a small job but they have the tools to handle the job without draining the fuel. It is a safety recall and will really need to be done sometime. Parts are only recently available so maybe they did not have them at your last trip in for the other service.

Has anyone else found that their car smells strongly of gas after this? I picked our car up from the dealer around lunch today, the FDM recall was about the only thing they did in the 3 days they had it. They didn't replace any of the trim pieces (the parts are on back order, again) and they said they can't fix the trunk squeak so they think they just have to replace the whole hinge assembly on each side but are waiting on Ford to tell them what to do.

 

Anyhow, as soon as I got back in the car to leave the dealer I almost choked on the strong gas smell in the car. I'll see if it still smells later tonight when leaving work.

Not surprising, I'm sure the the fumes rose out of the tank and it doesn't take much of them to leave a really strong odor. Probably have to air the car out for a couple of days.

 

I find it interesting that my FFH hasn't been part of this recall yet. I haven't had any issues with the fuel delivery module, so maybe I got lucky on this one.

I got a recall notice for the fuel delivery module on our original FFH built back in February. That vehicle was totaled in early June and we got a replacement about a month later. The build date on the latest one is the 15th of June. I am not seeing any recall notice due for that vehicle so if you have a recent vehicle it may have the updated fuel delivery module. I called my dealer to verify and they double checked and said no recalls were active on the vehicle so I think were good on this one.

Believe it or not I'm still waiting for my part to come in. Am I alone?

 

Mine was ordered back around August (when the 13B07 PCM update was done) and I last checked in October to ask hey did y'all forget about me? They said nope we didn't forget, there is an open repair order on your car with the part ordered and still in 'backordered' status.

 

 

Added: Hope it arrives by January as I will be at the dealer since annual inspection will be due.

Anyone notice a drop in overall MPG after replacement of the Fuel Delivery module???? I had this done in September, and have seen drop of about 25% in mileage, just wondering if the work done by tech was poor or module was defective that they installed......

No drop here. Had my fuel delivery module replaced last June at 7900 miles and fuel mileage at that time was 44.3 mpg. Had the PCM update at 10,000 miles with a lifetime mileage of 44.6 mpg at that time. Currently at last fill-up with 16,600 miles the mileage is 45.2 mpg. Note all mileage figures are actual. Car's computer reports a lifetime mileage number of 46.9 mpg.

There sure are a lot of double Fusion Hybrid/Energi & MKZH owners on this Forum but I think you are the first that has had three of them!!

I think mine might still be on there because Apple Valley Ford (who replaced the FDM back in September) has never closed out that ticket in the system to update Ford that the repair was done. It's now been over 2 months since I last heard from them. At the time, we were waiting for more trim pieces to come in so that they could fix the trim and close out the ticket. We ended up trading the black one in and I decided to just wait to see if AVF will ever call me to tell me that the parts have arrived. Our previous experiences with them indicate that they won't ever call. I'm curious to see how long they'll have these parts sitting in their service or parts dept before someone realizes and follows up on them. Terrible, terrible service.
