EV+ Shows up occasionally - what does it mean?

Recommended Posts

EV+ is silly. It just kicks in when you are getting home or to work. Takes the car a little time to learn home & work. Not sure of the merit.

Doesn't hurt anything, but for us it doesn't help anything.

anyone know if ev+ is still on 2017+ vehicles? my in-car tutorial talks about setting EV+ on/off - but when i go to settings - there is no EV+ category (just backup camera and something else). I am not sure if it is just automatic now or if it went away. i have had 2018 car for 3 months and have not seen EV+ yet - for what it is worth

EV+ is on '17 FFH (mine) and as far as I know on '18 FFH as well. Check vehicle settings (left screen), I think it's a toggle setting I think.

it puts the car in EV mode for the last 1/2 mile or so to the destination. Unless really needed, ICE will not kick in.

I've never found it in my 18. I found it to be a useful feature in my 13. I could climb the ramps in the parking garage at work on just EV.

The intended benefit is to have your HVB at a lower charge when you start up the next time, when the ICE is likely running longer to bring it up to temperature. That allows the HVB to absorb more charge from the longer-running ICE. The EV+ ability can be turned on or off in my 2015 FFH.

I didn't understand the purpose either until I heard that explanation a while back. Once I understood that it seemed to make a lot of sense to me. Now my wife and I have contests to see who can leave the battery in the most depleted state after arriving home.

EV+ is a toggle on the 2017 models ... left screen ==> Driver Assist ==> EV+ mode. On or off option.

EC+ mode is discussed in 2017 FFH Owners Manual on page 148:

"EV+ Mode
Your vehicle will recognize your frequent destinations and allow for more EV driving as you approach them. For example, when nearing your home it should be easier to stay in electric mode. The EV indicator will display EV+ when this mode is active. You should see this approximately 1/8 mile (200 meters) from a frequent destination. See Information Displays (page 94).

Note: Frequent destinations are learned by your vehicle after two to four weeks of use. To add a destination immediately, perform the following process: cycle the ignition on for 2 seconds, but do not start your vehicle, then off for 2 seconds. Repeat the process 10 times. This location is now programmed for EV+. You can clear these destinations with a Driving History reset through the Settings menu."

Driving history is under Vehicle Settings ==> DIsplay and requires holding the OK button to reset.

Yeah - i read this in the manual. I still have not seen someone with an 18 or 19 who has seen it. might not be an option anymore....

This option literally does not exist in my 18 fusion hybrid (Drivers Assist has only two options (rear camera and something else I cant remember at the moment - but not EV+). Maybe I need a SW update. It seems weird that it does not even come up as an option in my 18 driver assist, yet is mentioned in both the owners manual and in the on-car tutorial.

I upgraded my instrument panel firmware today to the 2018 version, and the EV+ option has indeed disappeared. However, I can see that the EV+ mode is still working. While it doesn't explicitely say 'EV+' anymore when I approach my home, the EV threshold on the Empower screen does increase massively, just as it used to do before the upgrade.

This makes me believe that what used to be called EV+ and regarded as an optional feature is now an integral part of the car's behaviour and can't be turned off.

Hi everyone. Looks like I’ma few years late to the party but I was just given a 2014 FFH and was curious about the EV+ feature also.
I’ve noticed that when it’s in EV+ mode, it allows for more acceleration versus in EV mode where if you accelerate, generally the engine kicks in for more acceleration power. I haven’t noticed the “memory” part where it turns on in familiar place, but I will watch more closely now!
