You're needed to be 1000 / 13.4 =74.62 mpg average to achieve that goal. So far I havent found one user on this forum (including me) dedicated enough to come close to 70 mpg on a trip computer exceeding 1 gallon consumption showing on it.

with which I mean travelled 75 miles on a single gallon of fuel. We need Wayne Gerdes to teach us lead foots how the 2013 model can beat the 2010 record. The one thats a smash hit in epa standards compared to the older one.

Should be easy right?

 

 

Pleease someone prove that it can be done.

The goal has NEVER been 1000 miles on a tank. 700 is a lofty goal for a tank, 600 high but attainable and 500 a good starting point. When I created this thread its purpose was to post a pic of the highest mileage over a 1000 mile period. Over 1000 miles you'll see a lot of variation. A lot of us can get 60+ MPG on a trip here an there or some even on a regular commute, but can you keep that up for 1000 miles? That's the goal here.

My trip one keeps track of per tank mileage and I'm using my trip 2 to see how long I can maintain 50+ mpg average since I've never reset my lifetime MPG. But, based on my last two tanks of gas, which works out to over 1,100 miles, my MPG is almost 53 mpg (see Fuelly). Given I'm intentionally doing more country road miles on this tank of gas (where I can get 63+ mpg), I could push my next two tank average to between 54 - 55 mpg.

 

With fall setting in, I think my days of awesome MPG are numbered and then I'll have to suffer a Maine winter, which will probably cut my average MPG substantially.

Another example where I didn't read the old comments and jumped to conclusion. thanks HB I get it now. Shouldn't be long till the trip meter gets to 1k. Had reset both at last fill and oil change. close to 300 on them right now.

I realized today while flipping thru my menus that my trip 2 was still running from out southeast coast trip return and it had just rolled over at 1000 miles.

I'm very satisfied with that result knowing it has a larger amount of interstate travel rolled in.

Must be nice not having to drive up and down those hills by me everyday. LOL You said it yourself too, man those are gas hog hills on 14.

Final 1000 mile challenge in the black FFH. This pic was taken right before we left with the new white FFH

This spanned from 10/18/13 to 11/27/13 so it was all cold weather. There were few days above 45 in these 1000 miles and the impact of the cold can be seen in the lower MPG than in the past.

 

Here is the pic of the current tank up till dropping it off.

I missed posting my pic at 18,000 miles which happened on 10/18/13. This pic spans from 8/25/13 to 10/18/13. It was very hot in August and early September, lots of days above 90. Then the temps quickly dropped down to the 30s & 40s. This 1000 mile segment is lower than past ones because of the unfavorable weather.

IMO 1,000 miles on 13.9-14gals is do able. Having driven the FFH for two weeks now I believe I could get similar results as I have gotten with my CMAX. On my record run at the end of OCT. by my calculations I would have gotten 930mi if it hadn't been for rain and wind the last 300mi of my tank. That would have been about 67-68mpg and I averaged 38mph. With a few more improvements now I believe I can make 72-73mpg and still average 38mph. :shift: Has anyone run out of gas to find out what size of tank you really have? What is the best MPG's that anyone has gotten so far? :)

Well I turned in my 2014FFH rental with 1011.5mi.,605.1EV, 49.8MPG.,20.29gal. and 2796.3mi on OD. Not to shabby. Do I qualify for 1000mi. Club? LOL :) :shift: I took off Grill Covers to take car back to Budget Car Rental in Atlanta, 40mi away and was getting 3mpg less.

Awesome! Having driven your C-Max for such high MPG and now a FFH, do you think the difference in EPA estimates for the two vehicles parallels what you saw in real life? Do you think the FFH really can do a couple MPG better than the C-Max in the exact same conditions?

I don't think there is a significant difference between the CMAX and FFH. The FFH might have slight edge on HWY MPG. :)

 

It can be done with the help of a truck...

 

 

KLH I get the impression that you feel the only way you could get 1,000 miles on a tank in your FFH is if you towed it. LOL I got 909 mi on a tank in my C-Max the end of October and realistically could have hit 930 mi if the weather hadn't turned cold and rainy. I have come up with some new improvements that I'm hoping will push me over the 1000mi. mark. :shift: :)

Gee I thought a Prius was more aerodynamic than a CMAX, more like a FFH :hysterical:

Look at the roof lines on both, at a glance you can't tell them apart at the angle shown above. Look longer and then the rear is different, but at a glance, it looks like one for sure. In real life though, no way they can be mistaken for each other since the P sits lower than the C. and is slimmer in size.

wow, I guess I need to take our car back to the dealership to make sure that they put the right software parameters in when they updated it. We are only able to manage about 33.7 mpg average per tank...and that is actual.(meaning completely full, run till the light comes on, then fill completely full again and divide the number of gallons it took to fill it into the trip miles(388)) The dash shows it to be averaging 37.0, but that is not correct. we haven't reset it since they installed the updated software in Sept.

Here's my first thousand mile challenge in the new white FFH. It's not actually a thousand miles since we picked the car up with 210+ miles on it. I reset this when we drove it off the lot.

I think this is a pretty good start considering that the temps have been miserably cold and we're going through the break-in period...This pic spans from 11/27/13-12/26/13.

That is really good MPG this time of year. It is better than I am getting, but then again, I am not even trying, not worth it in this cold miserable weather, rather be warm and comfortable than save a few $ on gas. :) Still doing better than the BD did WITH trying! :)

Thanks. It isn't a bad start considering 400 of those miles were 65 MPH freeway going to & from Owatonna for work. Comparing to my notes from Owatonna trips last winter with the old car it seems to be about the same MPGs or maybe 1 MPG less. The difference being that last year when the black FFH was new I used Eco Cruise at 60 MPH or so and now I use pulse & glide from 60-70 MPH with the same MPGs at the same temps.

 

Yesterday I had one of my first real 47+ MPG trip in the cold last night. I hope there will be many more.

 

One thing that's crazy is that I drove almost 400 miles in those 3 days going to Owatonna and only another 400 miles in the other 27 days combined that we've had the new white FFH. The Prius only got driven 800 miles in November and will be around 700 in December. I think Jeff drives something like 700 miles a week...

Those 18" wheels will be the difference in MPG between the two. They also seem to stiffen in the cold and gain some resistance. I will give up some RR for the traction they provide.

I didn't drive much in the snow last year to have a good comparison of the FFH with 17s, but the FFH with 18s seems to be worse in the snow than the Prius. Our Prius has the 17 inch wheels, not the base 15s.

I don't know if the FFH loses grip more often than the Prius, but the Prius is more predictable in how it handles. The FFH often scares/startles me when it starts to slide in the snow. The Prius is very predictable and easy to drive in the snow.

Latest 1000 mile challenge. From 12/26/13-2/7/14. Temps were mostly -15 to 10F. All city driving. I can't wait for spring!!!
