Punishment Tax for Hybrid Owners

I suppose I hadn't explicitly stated that in my previous post. Nothing very earthshaking. Since the tax base of taxing the volume of motor fuel sold is being eroded, just pay as you go. With the current toll road pass technologies currently in place, nothing new need be invented, just made universal. Since some on this forum appear to be very vehement that there should be differential tax rates for hybrids, EVs, etc., a given transponder can be linked to the type of vehicle, and charged accordingly (if that is in fact appropriate, which is a corollary topic at best to what's being discussed here, and I'm not necessarily endorsing it by the fact that I've mentioned it.)

Coming from another resident of the Great State of Illinois, you might at least mention how Illinois finances work....especially since they're now the joke of the nation.

 

All tax monies coming into the state coffers in Illinois go into the same pot. That pot is then divvied up in Springfield. All the advertising about "The Lottery has brought in $15 billion for education" is just so much horseapples. Yes, the law says that all taxes brought in from the Lottery go to education, and indeedy they have, right from the start, just as Those Who Screw On Their Pants in Springfield promised way back when the Lottery was sold to the voters. So- why hasn't state aid gone up one dime? Simple. An amount equal to the Lottery proceeds is just deducted from the state aid for that month at the bottom line. Zero-sum. Now if you know Illinois, and thought about this a while, you probably would have worked it out for yourself....

Yep, its whatever the lottery puts in, the state takes away an equal amount. Someone forgot to put in the bill, do not take away equal amounts! Madigan and his cronies.

It was Italy, I didn't inquire that far into it. We were driving a 2012 Renault Megane diesel wagon and paid about € 21 to go just over 300 km. For all I know they have some toll differential. They do several things differently.....for instance, the autostrada in certain areas have elapsed-time speed cameras. You trip two cameras and you hit the second one too soon for the speed limit between cameras, you get a nice ticket in the mail, pix and everything. No cops, no sirens, all very technological.
