SE vs TITANIUM

Push button start and BLIS are two features that don't sound important until you get them. Now I can't get a car without push button start and some sort of BLIS.

Push Button Start is seriously the only feature offered on the Fusion that I wish my SE had. Other than that, I have exactly what I want and no more. And when it came down to it, Dune (or rather, not black) interior was more important to me than PBS.

I have BLIS, and I agree, I couldn't go without it now. I don't have push button start, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing, but it sure seems like something I'd prefer to have!

For me, the only things I didn't want, especially if I have to pay extra for them, are the Moonroof and the Navigation system. For me, I have had a moonroof as standard equipment on my last 4 cars, and I practically never made use of it. And I prefer my portable TomTom which works well, has traffic alert, lifetime map updates, and I can bring it with me when I rent a car or take someone else's car.

I agree the BLIS and push button start being something I wouldn't want to be without. Push button start is awesome, I never thought I really needed it before but you realize how great it is when you don't have to go for your keys to open your doors, start the vehicle etc. I guess you don't appreciate it until you have it.

BLIS is extremely helpful to me on the highway, a quick glance for the yellow/orange dot and I know if it's safe to change lanes. Again, something I never thought I really needed until I had it.

The biggest thing I will never be without again, even more than BLIS, is the Adaptive Cruise Control!

Yeah, ACC is also a great feature, along with the Lane Keep Assist. Now I can read the paper in my car and not have to pay attention to the road or keep my hands on the steering wheel. Just kidding.

Aaron, you took the words right out of my mouth. BLIS, ACC and Driver Assist are all available options on the SE. With the SE you get more comfortable Dune colored seats and better looking wheels. I'm also very satisfied with the quality of my SE audio. PBS is the only option I would like to have, and that is available on the 2014 SE.

I really don't see the advantage of the push button start and I have it on the MKZh. I think it's something new and people think they just got to have it. I also have the push button transmission selector - I had that on my 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser....nothing new. It also had hill control.

Don't you like having your keys in your pocket and not fumbling for them before you get in the car and then having to put them back in your pocket when you get out? I know it seems stupid but for some reason it's a big plus to me.

Since I also have a FFH, both keys are on the same ring. I don't see where it's really a convenience. I don't know how long you have been driving, but for me I've been taking keys in and out of my pockets for almost 50 years.

Well I don't need the keys to open the door either, I just touch the door handle and the door opens, and to lock the door I can just touch the door handle after I close the door and it locks. So the keys never leave my pocket, It's pretty convenient to me :)

I rarely get the key into the slot on my first attempt. I dislike (hate) having to duck my head down to look around the steering wheel when the key doesn't insert at first. I don't dislike it enough to give up my Dune seats, however. The key slot should have been put in the location the push button goes.

i actually dont like having my keys in my pocket while driving.....they slide around to the side of my leg and end up in uncomfortable places.....but i do like the easy open and locking..

Definitely. When it's raining and/or dark and/or cold and you have packages in hand - no need to fumble for them. Oh, and the remote start too.

I can say personally that the PBS was the *main* reason for getting the car. No, seriously, it was...

For us we wanted PBS but it wasn't worth the wait until April to get a HyTi versus taking delivery of our car in December. It also wasn't worth the cost to get a HyTi with features we didn't want. If we were buying a 2014 I would definitely pay to have PBS on the SE. The lack of PBS almost was enough to push us to buy a C-Max SEL or a Camry Hybrid. If the Camry hadn't been $2k more expensive we would have bought it instead. If the C-Max didn't make us give up the moonroof to have PBS we would have bought it instead. The way I see it, every car will have compromises, no car is perfect, so you just have to pick the best option of all the imperfect choices. A FFH SE was that best option for us and we're very happy with our car even though we might covet 2014 FFH SE models with PBS.

The push button shift is something that doesnt bother me one way or another to have or not.

I think the push button shift looks very cool, but I'm not sure what the advantage is - this isn't something that would be a deal breaker for me either way.

Yea, its cool. But when you back out somewhere quick and want to get in drive just to get moving if someones coming. Your looking down.. Than your like o xxxx its up here.

We're looking for an SUV to replace our tow vehicle, and that is number one on my husband's list. He does not want to be without ACC.

I wish they would just give me a little mirror like the superdutys. Not the thing like they do on the mustang, Dont like that setup wayyy too small.

I wish the price difference wasn't quite so great between the two. Given that you can equip an SE with many of the features at a lower price it doesn't seem like the Titanium is a good deal. It's not a bad deal, the numbers roughly work out but it's not like you're getting a fantastic package discount. My company allows us to order the Fusion Hybrid as a company car but they only pay for a SE with Tech package. That's a great car but I'd like the Titanium, unfortunately that would mean paying the full price difference upfront out of pocket. I'll probably end up equipping an SE with Luxury, tech, and a sunroof and calling it a day.

Pricing out a 2014 SE with PBS with every option I would want, it would be $1,500 less than a Titanium which doesn't have some of my prefered options available. A 2.0 EcoBoost SE with the same options would be $2,500 less, an amount that is well worth paying more for to get the hybrid.

Check out the Flex, does all 3. Tow, PBS and ACC. Pulls my 7500# gross Horse trailer as easy as the F150 Pickup I had.

Given the price difference between the two, is the Sony sound system in the TI worth the difference? That seems to be the only difference now that you can order push button start with the SE. A loaded SE is the same price as a Camry and exceeds what the Camry offers with the push button start.

 

Alternatively, if the standard sound system isn't that great does anyone have experience with after-market sterio upgrades. I wouldn't change the navigation, I would just update the speakers. I'm not even sure if that's possible. Basically, what would it cost to put an after-market sound sytem in that matches or exceeds what is found in the TI.

My MKZh has the Sony sound. I have found to get optimal sound you need to have nothing in the trunk. Put some suitcases or bags in the car is the sound is distorted. I don't think it's worth the cost.

I love the Sony sound system! In my opinion is well worth the upgrade to Titanium. You also get HD radio with it. You have to have a good audio source for it to excel - FM or Sirius just won't cut it.
