acdii Report post Posted April 26, 2013 Check out this topic, I can concur after my experiments that there is a sweet spot, just takes a bit to find it. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?/topic/1434-i-have-found-the-illusive-mpg-sweet-spot/
fusionTX Report post Posted April 26, 2013 My results today, on a pretty perfect day, somwhat mimic consumer reports findings. Didn't they get 39 MPG at 65 MPH?I got slightly better overall, but close, and wind was pretty negligible today. I suspect I had a bit of a tail wind when I started heading north. fusionTX Report post Posted May 4, 2013 End of vacation, time to head back to Houston. Unfortunately, kind of a nasty travel day again.Weather started warm, but have hit rain for the last few hours, and now down to 52 degrees, just an hour west of Tallahassee. Mileage mimics the trip down. Averaging about 33 MPG at this point. First tank of gas put in at 400 miles. For the first time, I was not able to pump gas at first gas station I stopped at, an old BP. Pump would continuously shut off. Had to move across the street, at which time american express cut me off for suspicious use of my card :) Still loving my car. Really enjoying the weather map. It's a great tool to plan your stops while on the trip and great help in knowing when we can let dogs out, etc.

fusionTX Report post Posted May 5, 2013 Well i just got a speeding ticket, supposedly doing 72 in a 60 MPH zone. The Atchafalaya Bayou Bridge. Really bad speed trap. The sad part is that I was passed by so many cars on the bridge. oh well. Mileage improved to close to 35 MPG for the last 300 miles I drove. Better weather and also more traffic, making the average speed lower. I, once again cut it real close with gas. Put in 13 gallons at second fill-up. The DTE went to zero faster than I expected, and I think I went a little less than 20 miles after that. I hate to cut it so close with gas, but the whole trip is approximately 1,100 miles, so I shoot for gas every 400, so that I arrive comfortably with gas. My Old Camry Hybrid, with a bigger tank, always arrived with almost a full tank after two fill-ups. One more thing that I have to praise is the ACC. Makes a long trip that much easier. A word of warning though, if a car cuts right in front of you and you are at highway speeds, it seems the ACC is a little slow to respond to that situation. Otherwise, it works really great. Otherwise, it works really great.I found just the opposite. I've had cars cut in front of me and the FFH immediately tries to increase the spacing between us by slamming on the brakes. Scares me and the car behind me. I usually turn off the cruise when I get in heavy traffic for just this reason.
fusionTX Report post Posted May 5, 2013 I found just the opposite. I've had cars cut in front of me and the FFH immediately tries to increase the spacing between us by slamming on the brakes. Scares me and the car behind me. I usually turn off the cruise when I get in heavy traffic for just this reason.I had two cases yesterday, pretty much back to back. First a truck switched from slow lane to fast lane. There was very little room between us. I waited a second for ACC to engage. When it didn't, I hit the brakes myself. Soon after that it happened again, this time a car. This time I waited the ACC out to see what it would do. It did eventually hit on brakes, but takes a couple of seconds to react in this situation. I guess its Cameras are focused on a car well in front, and all of a sudden it has to refocus and react to a car a few feet away. In any case, in this situation it's foolish to wait on ACC. Best to take care of it yourself. Nice to have the ACC as backup though.
