Picking up you Vehicle -- Optional items "offered" by the dealership

Recommended Posts

Through these great forum threads I learned that some dealers are passing the increased price of Fusion Hybrids to buyers at the time of pick up. I contacted my dealership to ensure they will not do this. My sales person assured me this won't happen and once more committed to the price we negotiated at the time of order. And he documented that commitment on email. Having said that he also mentioned that "You will have some optional Items presented to you, and if you are interested, you can take advantage of those". He has been very honest so far, but didn't volunteer any details on what those options items are. ESP is an obvious one. Wondering if those of you who already have picked up your cars at the dealer could throw some light into what additional items the dealers will try to sell you.

Also, Is roadside assistance included in the std warranty offered by Ford, or would that be one of those extra things they will try to sell?

Thanks!

The warranty items are on your window sticker.

Roadside assistance is included.

Paint protection, lost key protection, window etching,

pizza on your birthday. ;)

Anything they can think of that you might consider to be useful.

Insurance for your keys was one the dealer offered us. They give it to us free for a year and then try to sell you more years. Basically the coverage means that if we lose a key they will replace it for free. If we lose a key and are thus locked out/unable to start the car they will send someone out to tow the car and replace the key. In order to get this coverage we have to keep this little tag on our key that says we are part of this program and that if someone finds the key and contacts the company to return it they will get a reward. They kept trying to sell that. Along with dent repair extended coverage. They also give us one year of free paintless dent repair for door dings

When I picked up my car, we also had already settled on the deal, and I was concerned there would be "extras" added in. What was offered was Extended Warranty, TIre blow-out coverage, and key insurance, all of which I turned down.

What I did take was the window tinting and "The Protector" exterior/interior protection package. I took these because the window tinting only cost a little more than the local tint shop, but they guarantee it against pitting or peeling for 5 years. And I know they will be here to honor the warranty in 5 years, the local tint shop may not be. And "The Protector" plan, which is a sealant on the exterior and interior of the car also has a guarantee against chips, acid rain, tree sap, etc on the exterior, and any damage to the leather or interior. In addition, I got a certificate good for an additional $500 if I trade the car in at the same dealership, so it would effectively be free when the time comes to trade it in. I arranged both of these the day before so it didn't delay my picking up the car.

But none of these were a hard sell at all - when I said "NO", they moved on without an argument.

Those 2 are good deals, the tinting, and protection package. My dealer doesn't offer either one, only because of our local, we are in Farm country! More Pickups are sold there.

good info. Thanks. Trying to anticipate what the dealer might try to sell me when I go to pick my car in about two weeks.

Were paint protection and window tint extras expensive at the dealer? How much you did they ask for these, if you don't mind me asking?

Wondering if the Paint protection would eliminate the need for stuff like "clear bra"...
