Not reaching the potential Fusion Hybrid MPG

Recommended Posts

Help, I have been driving my Ford Fusion Hybrid for two months and the highest MPG I have reached is 34. This is way lower than the advertised 47 mpg. I drive a mix of local and highway. Is anyone else having the same experience? Suggestions?

Check out the Fuel Economy section of this forum. Driving a Hybrid is very different than driving a gas car. It takes patience, a light foot, careful planning and warm weather!

When was your car ordered and built? I have a theory that cars built from mid-January on are somehow different and get closer to the EPA mileage. Just a theory.

I am in the same boat as you sherzog. 33.2 mpg for 3000 miles. I really am driving it like it's supposed to. Bad gas in Oregon and weather are probably part of the problem but not all of it. It's sure it's probably the batteries maybe? The weather has gotten warmer and I have been putting my baby in the garage now but that has made only a small difference 2-3 mpg.

Sherzog, I've had my FFH since December 26, 2012. I now have almost 10700 miles and my long term average is now 39.9 and slowly climbing. I found that if I use my left thumb to accelerate (cruise above 20) the car accelerates much smoother and the mileage improves. Last tank the computer said I got 44.9 and the calculated amount was 44.6. I don't do much expressway driving mostly country roads at 56MPH. On the expressways I do 62MPH.On the way to work today I got 52.9 and 38.7 on the way home equals 45.75 MPG. My trip to work is 20.9 miles same home. I only use the right foot to get to 20MPH then left thumb. During the winter I had studded snow tires on until five weeks ago. Mileage is now going up about .1 per week.
