Would you buy a Hybrid again or Gas Fusion?

I read these mid 30's MPG & was wondering...how many would by again & would it be Hybrid or Gas? I have a VW TDI Diesel that is 10 years old & want to replace it with a hybrid. Ford was my first choice but I don't know now. How about one a year old or so?

I bought a 2010 Fusion Hybrid in April of 2009.

I am now buying a 2013 Fusion Energi to replace it because I wanted a plug-in car when I bought in 2009.

I will never own a gas only car again.

I have a 2010 FFH, and I had owned a 2010 Fusion Sport, the savings in gas costs alone is well worth the difference in performance. I then bought the 2013 FFH, and almost did replace that one with a standard Ti, but my economical side won out, even getting 35 MPG is still better than 23.

 

That being said, a LOT has to do with your daily drive. If it is a short trip under 10 miles each way, getting a Hybrid is not for you, but if you can afford the plugin variant, that would be the ideal car. Nothing can beat gliding through town on EV, silent like a shark!

 

 

Now if they would only add a Turbo!

This is my first hybrid and as a commuter car is is terrific, I am very happy with it.

Quiet ride, nice looking, good handling, adequate acceleration and superior mileage to anything it's size.

 

If you looking for an adrenaline hit, this isn't for you, doesn't tow anything either.

If you are commuting less than 20 miles each way and have a charging station on either end the Fusion Energi (plug-in) might be a better choice.

4500 miles and jury still out. Tween insurance, xtra $5000 cost and gas saved its about break even. Wife being happy worth every penny spent. We'll see.

I was either going to get the hybrid or the 2.0 ecoboost, and the fuel economy was a much better choice. I have a 12-13 mile commute and ive averaged 45 mpg on the first quarter of this tank. Other tanks have averaged 36-42 mpg in colder weather and longer trips (its still 45 degrees tops here). While the gas fusions are rated 34-38 highway, they definitely dont compare to the hybrid in town, and dont on the highway either in my experience. If you have a shorter commute in 60 mph range and not much city driving and want a lowly featured low priced fusion, i would say the 2.5 Fusion S/SE is for you. Then again, a Focus SE auto with the SFE package is rated at 40 hwy and even cheaper. If you want a Fusion though the hybrid is completely worth the extra money. Wouldve only been a thousand dollars or two difference from the 2.0 anyway..

I would not buy a hybrid fusion! Not with my poor mileage and the work needed to even get 2/3 of what ford says it's supposed to. I actually love the car but it's not what a hybrid should be in my opinion. Just saying.

I found the price difference to be less than $2500 for cars with the same options, and it is well worth the difference. The Energi, with my driving conditions, probably would work very well for me for getting better MPG, but then I wouldn't have had all the great experiences (on the road and here) the past four months. I wouldn't trade that for spending a little less on gas. The extra initial cost and loss of cargo space in the Energi would be hard for me to justify. All my future purchases will be either a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or the next affordable technology that is developed.

I would do it again, traded our 2010 Jetta TDI for a C-Max.

Despite my less than stellar mpg (which getting much better on the current tank), I would certainly buy the 2013 hybrid again. Love my FFH.

Bought a new 2010 Fusion Hybrid in 2009. Bought our 2013 Fusion Hybrid in Dec. 2012. Love both cars and compute that I have saved over $3,300 in fuel cost with the 2010 (over 25,000 miles). Based on the resale values, I will not lose anything over a gas model when I decide to trade the 2010 in on a 2013 Titanium Hybrid Energi later this year. The most technologically advanced vehicles I have ever owned or leased, and I have had a lot of new cars.

Dont know about the trade in on the 2010, the value dropped like crazy when the 13 hit the lot. Last year mine was worth 21K, now its 16K.

We just came back from a long trip in the 13FFH, and I'm more disappointed now than I was before we left. We were comfortable in the car - it rode and drove nice. Disappointed in the gas mileage, but also the storage space. There were just 2 of us, and our luggage just fit. And we had access to laundry along the way, so didn't need to take 2 weeks worth of clothes.I can't imagine having 3 or 4 people going for more than a day or 2 trip in the car, just not enough luggage space. The fold down seats are nice, but with the battery hump and the fixed rear shelf, it really restricts storage. If the shelf were removable it would be much better.

What I meant was that a portion of the shelf could be removable like the rectangular tube under the shelf. Trying to squeeze a suitcase between that and the batteries below is tough.

There were just 2 of us, and our luggage just fit.

Everything is relative, 2 people in a car that big.

My Mustang GT convertible holds two overnight bags in the trunk, we've done 15 day, 6k mile trips.

It takes some planning and as you mentioned a laundromat every 5 days, like hotels/motels have.

Others travel everyday in smaller cars for longer distances.

 

I wonder, if the car had achieved 47mpg for the trip would you be mentioning this?

Hmm....we're 2 weeks back from a 21 day trip in the FFH. My wife and I each had our own bag (albeit large athletic gear type bags) and knapsack. Also, carried a cooler, snack bag and misc. junk bag. There was enough space for 2, but a 3rd would present problems.

 

Very comfortable car to drive on long trips. Sure would have liked having a spare tire as a road hazard trashed a sidewall. It was a 70 mile round trip to the nearest Ford dealer. Thankfully they had a tire.

Just check the fuelly and fueleconomy.gov and you'll get a decent idea of what to expect in MPGs. I personally wouldnt recommended the 2013 FFH but it will all depend on your commute time (short commutes kill mpgs), weather where you live(cold weather kills mpgs), road terrain(of course uphill driving), speed limits(higher than 62mph kills mpgs), whether you like to accelerate at 2000 rpm or 3000 rpms. As Ford would say ""Your mileage may vary"" GREATLY. If you intend to purchase the 2013 ffh just make sure you negotiate knowing the informations I provided and try to get some firm documented details from the dealer before you sign.

I can pretty much get this on my commute any day the sun is shining. Cold start. Up to 43 degrees today. Wintry weather drops it to the low 40s at worst.
