rvlasek Report post Posted April 15, 2013 I just talked to my Dealer about this, my rep said they just had a FF Energi in with the same thing and the axles swap fixed it.They are ordering two CV axle assemblies to change mine out. I told him the HotLine # but he wasn't interested, just going to change both assemblies. erichFla Report post Posted April 15, 2013 I'm going to have to join the rest of you in this clicking noise matter. Mine makes a very quite clicking noise too and it's hard to hear unless you have everything shut off inside the car so you can hear it. It is up front that's for sure but can't tell from where. Our car has been doing it from the get go but I didn't think anything about it till I started reading this thread. This is my First experince with a Hybrid car and I didn't know if that was a Normal sound or not. Now I know it's not. I'll be watching this thread for the Fix and Numbers. Jaw-Knee Report post Posted April 15, 2013 Having the Same Issue! Contacted my Dealer and set an Appt so I can get it logged! The Clunking started at 900 miles. Got a little over 1,000 on it now. Also, I'm trying my Best to drive on EV and I'm only getting 42.5 mpg. What's with the 47. Mpg ratings? Is that downhill? Shady Business. Still, I Love this car! I have about 6000 miles, and it seems to be getting louder. I was in a parking lot yesterday and it made the click/clunk sound and it made me cringe. I'll get a call back very soon so we can set an appointment for the repair.The plot thickens, my dealer rep just called me back and told me that although Ford knows about this they have not produced a Bulletin or any official fix for this.Therefore, my dealer can't order parts until they actually test drive the car to verify it has this exact issue.I'll go in Thursday for this 'test', then a decision will be made. rvlasek Report post Posted April 16, 2013 My noise seems to getting louder, hear it now sometimes when I slow down at about 10 mph. Vehicle has 1100 miles, started at about 500 miles. Had it in once when dealer tried to fix, changed right front strut and bearing which did not fix.,,, waiting on Ford to come up with rememdy and it done along with new shifter..since I bgt 505a pkg. Time will tell. EDIT: REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT CV SHAFTS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE! MUST HAVE BEEN DUE TO THEIR FRESHNESS THAT I COULD NOT HEAR IT. I DO HEAR THE CRACKING AND CREAKING AGAIN, NEARLY AS BAD AS BEFORE. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CV SHAFTS DID NOT WORK. I hope your Dealer treats you right about this, they seem to be trying so far.A few tanks of gas or something of the sort might help.I KNOW they have funds for Customer Satisfaction, they ought to use some on you.My receipt for the gearshift knob replacement actually had that printed on the bill " two tanks of gas, Customer Satisfaction Account" (or something to that effect).They still give me a free breakfast/lunch (if I want it) on every visit. In MN if there are 3 failed attempts to fix the same problem then you can file a Lemon Law claim. Either way they should compensate you in some way for all the inconvenience. I have an appt for next Monday to drop the car off for them to replace the axle and a few other things. I'll let everyone know the outcome Any FFH owners NOT experiencing this problem?I still have never heard the noise described here in my car but the tech at the dealer said he heard it and when I showed him this thread he said this is exactly what he heard. We hear a clunk in the brakes/steering when reversing, braking and turning the wheel to the right. This clunk had gone away until the dealer took apart the front end to try to pinpoint the "cracking noise" and now the clunk has reappeared. If nothing else I hope replacing the axle fixes the clunk we do hear. Btw our car has about 8600 miles and the steering clunk has been happening since the beginning. I'm pretty sure I would have picked up the noise by now, I'm usually pretty sensitive about such things especially since the FFH is so quite otherwise. As the engine or motor torque it applies a twisting force that could be causiing the clicking noise, kind of reminds me of an issue I had with engine mounts on a Ford Sierra in the 1980's. The technician talked about putting extra grease on my car when they replace the axle. Based on what you're saying that sounds like a bad idea. dmt1971 Report post Posted April 17, 2013 I will have had my car for three weeks tomorrow. The noise started around 600 miles or so. Took it into my dealer yesterday. Service writer said they were familiar with the noise. Called today and he said they have adjusted (torqued) some suspension parts and the noise is gone. I'll believe it when I see (or more appropriately hear) it. They're also replacing my shift knob with the correct leather one and hopefully fixing a right windshield wiper that sometimes sticks at the top of it's sweep for a couple of sweeps. SimonHAH this is what I was trying to think the issue might be. Its exactly the type of sound one would hear when a mount has too much play in it and exactly the type of motion that creates it. For the longest time I was trying to come up with what it might be. Who knows, maybe Ford is chasing the wrong parts. For an axle to make this noise, there would have to be a lot of play in it, and when you consider the shaft slides into a gear set, and is splined, there should be ZERO slop. That would mean the entire gear set is moving, or on the other side the CV joint would have to have quite a bit of play in it. A CV joint has two parts, the hub/spindle side with grooves, and the shaft side that is rounded with grooves. In the grooves are ball bearings, and lots of grease, They should be very snug, and smooth, with no play. When there is play you hear clicking when turning, but rarely do you hear noise when accelerating or braking. Shoot maybe I should go work for Ford, bet I could find the problem with a mechanics scope and a dyno. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
