2013 Hybrid Gas Tank Size

Recommended Posts

Filled up tonight after getting the car back. took 10 gallons over 314 miles. It was just under 1/4 tank, so looks like the tank is filling OK.

That's around what I get in the Corolla. I guess I can expect the same fill-up rate (maybe 10-15% better) while driving a better car. Eh... :headscratch:

I'd really like to see 400 miles/tank fill up. Getting an extra 70-80 miles per fill up would be great. That's an extra commute+ drive to gf's lol.

I filled up last night. I did the 2 click thing and got 11.0 gallons in the tank. There were still 3 bars showing before the E mark so I think I'm not having troubles filling the tank.

I got 12.6 gallons last fill up. Had to force feed her but previous fill up's were only 9.5 and 10 gallons when the car said almost empty. My manual says 13.5 gallons. My dealer said bad mileage can be caused by various things. bad gas is one and apparently Oregon has crappy gas according to the dealer.

Had to fill my FFH 13 last Friday, DTE said 1mile, managed to get 11.3 gallons in, somewhere there is a missing 2.2 gallons.

On a related note, if you go into Engineering mode there are 2 DTE values, Display & Instrument. Instrument shows higher than Display by various amounts up to15miles. I suspect this is the safety net that Ford builds in because so many people believe they can run their cars on fumes. Can others confirm these 2 values behave the same on their cars.

That's right. Last fill I went well past 0 on the Display DTE. The other DTE in ET Mode still showed more than 10 miles and my FLPM (Fuel Level Percent of Maximum) showed around 5% remaining. And I still couldn't get 12 gallons in the tank

Again, do NOT run these cars out of gas. It is not good for them or you. The EV also shuts down at almost the same time so it won't get you to the gas station a few blocks away. Don't overfill the tank ! Believe the miles to empty. It's calculated on a gallon or so remaining. Do you realize how little this is at the bottom of a 14 g. tank? The 2013 should go 300 miles before you get to 1/4 F. That's when you should refill.

I've only ever got 11.7 gal in the 13.5 gal tank. 600 miles on 11.7 gallons would only take an average 51.3 mpg and that's exactly what I'm at right now after 110 miles.

My last fill up was 12.5 gallons. My yellow warning light had been on for about 10 miles and I did four clicks on the pump.

Yeah, I learned a long time ago not to run the tank dry when the fuel pump in my 92 Crown Vic seized and burned up the entire wiring harness in the trunk. Man, took weeks to get that smell out when I got the car back. It was also a $2500 repair that thankfully was covered under warranty.

It would be nice if they had a 16 gal tank.

Agreed - my 2010 had a 17.5 gallon tank, and now reduced to 13.5, and last week I did fit in 12.6 gallons and was afraid to test it further (was already 21 miles past 0 DTE).

My '05 Corolla has a 13 gallon tank. I normally get about 10.5 gallons on every fill up. And that's taking it close to "E".

The Specs on the Ford site continue to show 14 Gallon tank for the hybrid.

Fuel Capacity (gal.) 16.5 FWD/17.5 AWD/14.0 Hybrid and Energi Plug-In Hybrid

I think they have updated and corrected a lot of the inaccuracies, but this remains. Maybe the tank really is 14 gallons or maybe it was modified to use the same tank as Energi at some point during year. Or maybe it's just wrong on the web site.

Yeah I guess the web site needs an update, but the Owner Manual (1st printing I believe) notes on pg 302 that Energi fuel tank is 14.0 gallons and Hybrid is 13.5.

I cut it a bit close for comfort today with my 13.5 gallon tank, went 628 miles and it took 13.2 gallons. Knew I had about 200 miles to drive today and yesterday while sitting in the garage the DTE said 232 so I figured I was good... then this morning it was 32 degrees and so the cold weather and HVAC skewed that DTE downward during the day big time, so by the time I got home and filled up it was -30 miles DTE.

My car still won't take more than 10.5 gallons when it clicks off unless I force more in and in Oregon we can't pump your own gas. That would mean there is 3 gallons reserve when it says I am out? Forum guys were saying it's not good to fill it up that much as it may flow out when it gets hot.

So basically what I'm hearing is there is absolutely no way you'll ever run out of gas when it says you are about to. You have a least 20+ miles left in the tank right? Probably more.

I've been DTE -12 and put 11.8 gallons in. Go figure...

Same. My last fillup, i was in the "red" part of the gauge (i didn't check the DTE but it was at least 12 miles below empty) and the pump shut off at 11.8 gallons. I squeezed about .3 more gallons until the next cut off. I don't think to fill up until it is clearly in the yellow and sometimes in the Red.

Not necessarily... the DTE is calculated by your MPG history of the past X miles, but it's only an estimation. I've had two fillups where the DTE was -20 and -21 and I put in about 12 gallons, then that last one it was -30 DTE and I put in 13.2 gallons which was pretty close to being empty and while I figured I had about 1.5 gallons in reserve (based on the two prior fillups when DTE was about -20), but turned out I had a gallon less than that and was actually not too far from running out. So it really is just an approximation, and while it seems very 'unlikely' that you will ever actually run out gas when the DTE hits zero due to the reserve being factored in, it could be closer than thought.

Maybe in the Fusion, but I found, not in the Flex, when it says get gas, fill that bugger. I had less than a gallon left when I reached DTE 0. 18.5 gallon tank, 17.6 to fill. I always filled the Fusions at 1/4 tank if I can. Not worth the risk to me. It just meant I filled the 13 more than the 10 because of the smaller tank.

I wish it had a larger gas tank. I feel like I filled up my Camry less often and even though this costs less money who wants to stop at the gas station? Plus the first quarter of a tank is gone in 10 minutes. I'm sure it is a settings thing but sheesh, scare a girl why don't you? My Fuelly settings say I got 45 mpg the last fill up on avg so I am happy.
