Zaairman Report post Posted December 3, 2010 Is there anyway to disable the auto dim mirror in a 2010 SE? Unplugging it works, but then the compass doesn't work. I don't mind cutting a wire if I have to...

Zaairman Report post Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) should just be able to unplug it from the back side of the mirrorRight... but then the compass doesn't work, as stated in my original post. What I really need to know is, what wire do I cut? :D Edited December 6, 2010 by Zaairman
xmech2k Report post Posted December 6, 2010 You could experiment some. I think there are 3 sensors. One in the front, sensing ambient light, and the 2 on the back, which I'm not sure exactly what they are sensing. Maybe it's just logic, like if it's dark in front, and light in back, it will dim. Whatever, could guess at this forever. Maybe if you tape something dark over the 2 rear sensors it won't dim.

Zaairman Report post Posted December 7, 2010 OK, I'll bite. Why would anyone want to disable this feature? :headscratch: Mine works the way it's supposed to and makes it safer driving at night. It's my dad's car, and he doesn't like it. He's very old fashioned. He's never used his CD player, and doesn't own a cell phone. If it was my car, it would have tinted windows, and then it'd making looking out the rear window very hard, so I'd want to disable it.

(me too) I have used my CD player twice. Discontinued my Sirius. Don't carry a cell phone except when isolated at 'the lake.' But....I do like my auto dimming mirror. But, he always seems to know when it's on for free... LOL. I think the main issue is nighttime driving where there aren't any lights on the road. It becomes very hard to see out the back when nobody is around, and also when you're trying to back up where there are no lights around.
xmech2k Report post Posted December 9, 2010 I don't think it's dimmed in that situation.

If there are no lights from behind the mirror is in its normal reflective state. Also, any time you place the car in reverse the auto dim is disabled, you can even notice the mirror lightening during the day.
