Installed Radar Detector (Which Fuse?)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, im new to this forum but i have a 2010 Fusion SEL and i love it. I have been trying to do a hardwire install of my Passport Escort 8500 x50 so i can have it sit in the upper part of my windshield, but every fuse i use will keep the power running to the radar even when the car is off. Im trying to find a fuse so that it will turn on when i turn the car on and off when i turn the car off. I have tried the Ignition Fuse, Radio Fuse, and the instrument cluster fuse. If it helps at all the fuse piggy backer is called "Add-a-fuse and came with a "3 Fuse" already in it. Hopefully someone can help me out here. Thanks!

My question is: WHY does ANYONE need a Radar Detector- OTHER than to Break the law and Speed!!! They are illegal in some states-Virginia and DC that I know of. Here in Florida we have TOO many people that Speed excessively and cause crashes. I would like to see like in Germany- PHOTO-Speed stealth Radar.. they get your picture!

IMHO ;)

That was not his question.

I can't remember which number it is, but I used the one that connects my backup sensors. I used an Add-a-circuit, which gives a 12v hardwire out but still maintains the original purpose of that fuse. It's also the lane merge warning thing so it's still hot even when your not in reverse.

I built a cable myself for my Escort Passport similar to the Invisicord (www.invisicord.com), using a telephone cable and $5 worth of parts from Radio Shack. I connected it to the back of the rearview mirror. Unfortunatelly I sold the car and I don't remember which pins I used on the back on the mirror. It worked great, the radar would come on when the car was started.

I wish I could find a solution similar to this for my 2013 Fusion, but there is a camara on the back of the mirror and there are no pins showing.

Regards,

APM
