Perimeter lights

Just bought a 2011 Fusion SE with the 3.0 . When unlocking the car with the remote only the parking lights light. I read the manual and it says the Headlights should come on also. My F150 does this. I tried deactivating and reactivating them following the owners manual instructions on page 109 " Perimeter lamps illuminated entry" and the parking lights light up no matter which way its set . Can anybody out there with an 2011 SE tell me if their headlights come on when they unlock the doors (at night) using the remote ?

When you activated the feature, did the horn chirp, then honk (one short and one long)? If not then the feature wasn't activated. If it did, be aware that the headlights won't come on during the daytime. If they still don't come on at night then a trip to the dealer is in order.

Thanks, Yes it did the short long. I cycled it On/OFF twice to see if that would do it and to verify I was following the instructions correctly (after dark). It chirps when being turned off and chirp then honk when being turned on. Off to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks again for verifying that's the way it works on the 2011's.

I just checked mine to see if I could change the programming. Mine isn't a 2011, but no exterior lights on mine except the mirror lights come on when unlocking the doors when i have the feature disabled. The headlights and other exterior lights all come on when it's enabled. Interior lights and mirror puddle lights are on in both cases. Mine works as the owners manual says it should. .

Taking it in on Monday.

I noticed today that the parking lights come on when unlocking the doors in the daylight. The lights are not suppose to come on in daylight. They also come on when opening the doors. WEIRD .

Took Them 4 hours and a phone call to Ford to troubleshoot it. Has to have the Smart Junction Box replaced. The Box should be in on Monday and I'll post if that fixed it or not. :waiting:

I'm wondering how long it took the dealer to understand the problem even before they tried to troubleshoot it!

I've been thinking about disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes to see if I could get lucky, but I don't know

what info that I would lose by doing so.

 

Anyway, I'll be watching for your results on Monday.

Do you have to leave the car, or can they install the new SJB while you wait?

Still waiting. Seems that Ford sent the wrong box so the car stays in the shop overnight. You can't wait as they have to take the dashboard apart from what I was told.

Going back in the morning to get it. If you take it in take BOTH keys. They will have to have both keys since reprogramming the car is needed

No GO. The SJB did not fix it. They are keeping it for the next couple of days. I hope that mechanic enjoys his work and puts it back together correctly.

WOW! That stinks!

I think that these cars are just too sophisticated for these dealers!

 

This is obviously not a widespread problem, as the lack of responses here on the forum is kind of disappointing.

 

The only common ground that we have, besides both cars being Fusions, is that they are both 2011's.

If it matters, mine had a build date od 10/6/10.

Second why would you take that feature away when there were only a few minor changes to the 2011 model. I'll be writing Ford a long nasty letter about it. I am thinking its a unintended software change and they are just not owning up to it . And what's up with the parking lights coming on when I open the doors even in daylight ? Yea, I find it disappointing people on this board don't participate. It would have saved a lot of time and trouble if even one more person had chimed in.

I have my perimeter feature ENABLED and the car lights up big time (headlights, taillights, not sure about puddle) when I unlock with the key fob when its dark (I get NO lights in the daytime) there is a note in the book ((page 111, 2010 hybrid)) about no perimeter lamps in some vehicles in daylight conditions) hope this helps (could it be only SELs & the hybrids with this feature, the owners manual is clear as mud on this)

Well, that's now three of us.

Not a very big sampling, but it's 3-0.

Haven't seen a post yet from a 2011 owner that says that it works like the 2010,

or that it works as is stated in the manual.

The light sensor on my 2010 is a marble size thing between the defroster vents, or is it part of the auto dimming rear view mirror - not 100 percent sure. Question for you 2011 owners, if the lights (any lights) come on at night when you unlock do they not come on in the daytime when you do the same (does the car know when its light or dark) ?

The lights that do come on, come on day or night. Makes no difference.

These same lights also come on just by opening the doors, whether they are locked or not. Makes no difference.

The lights that are supposed to come on (headlights), do not come on day or night. Makes no difference.

 

Disabling or enabling the perimeter light feature also makes no difference.

In an effort to assist you, I have researched the available resources for your inquiry. Our resources indicate that the perimeter light was not available for the 2011 Ford Fusion SE though it is available with the other trim level.

 

 

This is just bull in my opinion. He even had a problem turning it on on the 2011 SEL. We need to unite and complain about this to crcfmc@ford.com . There is a form there you can use to complain.

 

I fly to CA every 2 weeks for work and rent a car. I just rented a base level 2011 Impala. And even its headlights come on when unlocking the doors. So Fords better idea is to have less than the competition ? I think Ford's screwed up here and does not want to admit it so we need to push them to fix it. Why would Ford put on a feature and then tell you in the manual how to enable or disable it. I'd be willing to bet they have a electrical problem and don't want to fix several thousand cars.
