Paint on front bumper

Recommended Posts

So I had this spot about 1/2 inch by 1/8 inch of paint on my front bumper that was pealing off. You could even tell it was pealing off not just a rock hitting it. Took to the dealer and they said it was just a rock and it would cost me about $500 to repaint the bumper. Well it has gotten bigger now its about twice the size it was. So how can that be a rock? Is Ford not wanting to admit they might have made a small mistake when painting the front bumper. Any thoughts anyone what I should do?

Brian,

How old is the car? Can you post a picture?

Get a second and third opinion. Take it to another Ford dealership and to an independent body shop to see what they say. If a rock struck it hard enough to chip the paint it should have left a small dent in the plastic bumper cover.

Usually the urethane is much more foregiving with the absorption of a hit, than the hood or the rear view mirror covers, because it does flex. Hope you are able to git it fixed.

Did you buy the car new? Bumpers usually do not flake unless they were repainted by a shop that did not properly prep the bumper.

Like others have posted, pics would be nice.

Took to Ford dealer again and talked this time to the manager. Since it was purchesed brand new and only a couple of months old they are fixing it under warranty. He said for sure he does not think a rock did it. Thank god, because it was going be a $500 fix..

I'd still like to see a pic.

I still think the front bumper has been resprayed.

New cars are damaged in shipping or at the dealer and repaired all the time. The imports have full facilities set up at the docks just for this purpose. They never tell the customer if they can get away with it.

I'm not saying that this is what happened to your car, but it is quite possible.

Very interesting. I'm sure that had to happen... LOL

Cars get damaged all the time in transit. The dealers do not have to disclose unless it's 10%?? of the car value in damage. Just take a look at a car that ran into something where the bumper is dented pushed in or cracked, you more than likely will not see any paint flaking off.

I wouldn't sweat it, you are getting the front bumper resprayed for free anyways.
