Chip on bottom corner of 2010 tail light

Recommended Posts

So i was washing my 2010 fusion today and i noticed that the bottom corner of the right tail light is chipped. i want to go to the dealer to get it fixed but im almost sure they'll just say it was my fault and i'll be stuck spending a couple hundred bucks on a new tail light. has this happened to anyone else? i dont recall hitting anything with it, so maybe it was the truck lid closing on it? i still have the basic warranty coverage so maybe theres a chance itll be covered under warranty.

any thoughts?

I read a post elsewhere about early 2010 Milan's having issues with the trunk lid not centered. The gap at the tail light was not equal on both sides. I don't recall if it caused any problems other than appearance. Check to see if this is the issue, if it is, and that's the reason the lens chipped, it becomes a warranty issue. Good luck.

Strangely, this just recently happened to mine. I'm still waiting on the call for the replacement tail light to arrive. I'm very glad I found this thread and the one drolds linked to, and I will ask them to make sure the trunk is centered and the tail light is properly adjusted so it won't happen again when the new one arrives.

jeifei, I was also concerned that they would say it was my fault, but they approved the replacement under the warranty despite me honestly saying I had no clue how it could have happened.

If it will help to put your mind at ease.....I had mine changed over a year ago and the problem did not return.....I'm happy to see it was not a reoccurring problem, good luck.

Thanks for the follow-up. It is very good to know that it hasn't happened again.

I just had mine changed earlier today and asked them to check the trunk and tail lights to make sure they were properly aligned in case it happened when the trunk was closed. They seemed surprised by the request like they never considered the trunk could have caused the chip. But when I picked it up, they did say it was adjusted because it wasn't quite in the center with a larger gap on the driver's side. I'll probably continue to be extra gentle with it in the future though and will report back if it happens again in my case. The invoice I signed was right about $185 but it was completely covered by the warranty.

This is awesome... I noticed this maybe after a month after I got my Fusion... because the breaks were so "perfect" looking... There was no way I did this... I am going to the Ford dealer tomorrow to get it checked out...

Thanks guys!
