Does 2011 Nav speak incoming texts? Other cool features?

I am getting a bit confused as to what functions are sync, and what are nav.

 

On a 2011 Fusion SEL with Nav, will it:

 

1. read incoming text messages?

2. compose outgoing text messages by speaking them?

3. support music functions such as "play Billy Joel"

 

From my test drive, it appears that you can control radio, climate, and many of the things on the touch screen instead of using the physical dash buttons.

 

Aside from Navigation, what cool functions and features can I expect with the nav system?

 

On the 2010 brochure, there were footnotes saying things like: "not available with nav" for some of the basic sync things.

 

It really confused me.

Sync is the interface to phones and mp3 players. Navigation is just navigation. Not sure where radio and cd are now - my guess is they're now part of infotainment along with other sync devices.

 

The Sync stuff that's not available with Nav are things you don't need with Nav like turn by turn directions - Nav does it for you.

The sales guy did things like "fan speed down", and radio 96.5

 

There were definitely non nav & non phone control options on the nav touch screen.

 

I guess it doesn't matter too much. I'll have the car next saturday and I'm sure I'll be spending all weekend playing with it!

Yes, the nav touch screen has many non-nav controls.

 

In response to your original question, Sync can read incoming SMSes aloud but it depends on what kind of cell phone you have. Check the chart at Syncmyride.com. You can't dictate messages, but

there are 15 canned responses you can reply with. Here's a demo. Note that the car in the video does not have Nav.

 

You'll be able to select your music by artist too.
