STARTING PROBLEM & AIRBAG LIGHT :: 2007 Fusion 3.0 V6

Recommended Posts

Hello Forum.

I am a new member, just signed up to post this topic as I just started having these issues yesterday.

I have a 2007 Ford Fusion 3.0 V6 - Bought it in February 2010 with 88,000 miles from DriveTime dealer.

I now have 106,000 miles and these are my first problems I am noticing.

Yesterday I noticed that my airbag light sometimes stays on after being started, when I turn the car off and back on, it goes away.

Then later that day, I noticed that my car hesitated a bit to start.

Like if it was lacking some power, maybe my battery cable or battery it self? They look just fine, on tight and everything appears clean.

It did the same the next few times I started the car, the dash would flash as if it lost all power for a split second then kick back in and start up.

Now today when I started car for my 1st trip of the day, it did same thing...

When I got to work and was going out for lunch... it hesitated more than 2 seconds and even gave the starter is bad noise like took 3 seconds before it actually started.

So now I am worried and starting to research online if anyone else has had or is having the same issues?

I will contact the Warranty and Repair service in the morning since the dealer said I have a 3 year, 36K mile warranty still even though I bought the car with 88K.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you! :)

If you do a search you'll see that it's the battery/terminal post. Replace the battery and clean the terminal posts and use some type of anti-corrosive to prevent future problems.

Battery.

Search the forums. Sounds like what everyone else gets with a bad battery. Or check the terminals for corrosion, too.

(Edit) :banghead: Beat me to it, Akirby! :finger: :hysterical:

My battery looks very new and the cables are on tight and appear clean.....

Wouldn't I see some sort of corrosion from the top or one of the cables be loose?

I am hoping its only something with battery but by the looks, it does not seem to be that.

But thank you both! :D

P.S - What about my airbag light? lol

Oh?

So no idea about my airbag light?

I hope it is battery related also just like my starting problem lol.

THANKS AGAIN!

Yes, if you search around here for it, the airbag light is one symptom people have with a bad battery. And just because the battery looks nice, doesn't tell you how it performs. The only way to really know is remove it and get it tested. Maybe it's not the battery, but your alternator isn't charging it fully. But start troubleshooting with the battery first. I think it's cheaper, and it's definitely easier to replace. Good luck!

How do you have a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty on a car that has 106,000 miles on it? Is it a used car dealer warranty?

I had the exact same problem, right after I bought the car 2 weeks ago. My battery cable was bit bit worn on the bottom part of the terminal and I initially thought that was the problem. However, it ended up being the battery. I had the hesitation starting, and also my air bag light would come on quite a bit. It was not always on, but more so than not. I replaced the battery, and I have not had the problem since My car would hesitate, but as long as I kept the key turned, it would eventually start. Now the car starts immediatly, and no air bag light.

The airbag light that sometimes comes on is usually the first thing to tell when a battery is going bad.

I had my car 17 months and been through 2 batteries, one just yesterday. I started it up and noticed the airbag light. When I tried to start it to go to work the next morning, it wouldn't even crank - the battery was defective.

without taking it in for service I'd say stop at an Autozone or some other auto parts store. They all tend to test the battery and alternator for free. I was having problems last winter with cold starts and had them check the battery. It was still good but the Cold cranking amps were lower than the battery had rated so it never hurts to stop and check. May save some time also to find out if its the battery (most likely) or the alternator.

Ok I was so excited when I fixed this issue I forgot to come say thank you and give you guys an update.

Here I am 4 months later to be exact and the battery was the issue, it was fully charged but 100% dead as well.

I put in a interstate battery and all has been great since then.

However, I made a new topic because my air bag light is back, but without the starting problem......

SO NOW HOW DO I GET RID OF THE AIR BAG LIGHT THIS TIME? lol

Thank you everyone, I think I will go check my battery even though its only been 4 months?

Could just be a bad battery or one with a short life span?

We shall see........................ :shift:
