electrochromatic mirror

Recommended Posts

Quick question...

When I was driving this morning at around 5:30AM, I noticed the electrochromatic mirror didn't work. At what darkness, or at what point does it work? I would normally look at the manual, but my car didn't come with in (on order).

Thanks!

HI Smooth. :D First, if you like you can download the PDF version of your Owners manual here: LINK: Ford Owner Guides

Concerning your other questions, there really are no concrete answers. It varies according to ambient lighting, which will vary by the area you live in, the time of year, even what direction you were driving in as compared to the area light sources (sun, street lights etc.).

If after downloading and reading the Owners Manual you still have questions (which you probably will), your best course of action would be to make a Service appointment for diagnosis of any possible issues.

Let us know how you make out.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Some people here have in the past complained about it not working right when a car shines his lights into the mirror. Shorter people I believe have more of a problem then taller people and I don't mean real short people either. I'm 6' 3" and have no problem.

Yeah, I'm still trying to get used to it too. From what I've noticed, it really starts to dim only when the headlights are maybe within 2-3 car lengths behind me. My first encounter with these mirrors was in a 2004 Grand Marquis rental car, and for whatever reason, it seemed to dim too slowly for me when driving on the highways. It was more noticeable on pitch black roads in the middle of nowhere with no street lights. I eventually got a bit irritated with it and turned the mirror down so that bright headlights from far back were not in my line of vision. I haven't yet simulated this in the Fusion to see if it's the same way.

I saw in some forum where a guy put a piece of tint over the light sensor in front of the mirror, faking it to think it's darker ambient light, and working better. I still have to do that.

Thanks for the reply all. My wife has the same car (well SE, not SEL) and her mirror works as intended. However that was in complete darkness and not dawn. So I hope this was just a fluke and nothing major...
