2010 Ford Fusion radio issues

I just bought a 2010 ford Fusion. When we test drove it, the people before us left the lights on inside and out and the battery was dead. They jumped it but i later noticed the radio didn't work. The dealer said it needs a new radio..but I'm not so sure. The radios display only says "Ford Fusion" and shows the compass information. When I press the power button on the radio nothing happens. Is there anything I can try to get the radio working?? I drive a lot and need some tunes.....Please Help!

Hi Jim. :D There are no owner serviceable parts on the factory head units. So unless the power connections are unplugged (not impossible but unlikely), there is not much you can do to get it working on your own.

 

So my recommendations would be: First, you just purchased a new car with a Bumper to Bumper Warranty of 3 years/36,000 miles. Let the Dealer diagnose and repair the radio. If there is a system reset, they will do so. And if it needs replacement they w/ill replace it.

 

Next, what you are calling the "radio display" is no longer a conventional radio display as in older vehicles. It is not part of the actual radio head unit. since it is also the central display unit for other vehicle components.

 

Like most vehicle problems, letting the Dealer Service Department do what they are paid to do is the best course of action. If they say it needs to be replaced, second guessing them is counterproductive. Let them replace it. It is a simple job.

 

And as a learning experience: You should always check all systems before purchasing a car, especially if it is important to you ("you drive a lot and need your tunes"). So always check the vehicle over good and have the Dealer repair any problems before you sign the Purchase Contract, especially if it is an important issue to you.

Also note that leaving the lights on (inside or out) will not drain the battery - there is a feature that will turn them off automatically after a few minutes. Something else was going on with that vehicle before you took delivery.

Thanks for the info guys! Unfortunately for me, I was more into the car and how it drove than i was the radio when I test drove it....the wife and I were talking a lot and i never got around to trying the radio. It wasn't until i was on my way home from the dealer that I noticed it...lol

 

as for the battery....i don't know. I noticed the head light switch was on once they jumped it....and both interiors front and back came on once it had juice. maybe the car sat for a while...in the manual it says if you are going to store the car for a period of time you should disconnect the positive battery terminal so it doesn't drain.. I have not had a problem starting it since and it runs and drives fantastic!

 

I was noticing there were a lot of radio codes going around on other sites but it seems they only apply to previous model years....is that correct?

 

How funny, as i am typing this reply my cell just rang and it was the dealer informing me the new radio was in. Going at 1:30 today for them to put it in....I will keep you posted as to how I make out.

Leaving the lights on in my 2010 Fusion definitely drains the battery. Leaving the car out at night when the temp goes below 29 degrees F, renders car in need of a jump start.

Leaving the car out in extreme cold does not require a jump start. I went through a week at -45ish C (we actually set a record as the second coldest place on the planet, coming in 3 degrees behind Siberia) , and the car started just fine. I live in Edmonton Alberta - where block heaters are so standardized, when I ordered my Fusion, the dealer automatically added the block heater. Just a note, I did not plug the car in during that week either.

Took the car to the dealer the other day to get radio replaced and everything works great now! Thanks again for the replies!

Hey did you check the fuse...I know i pulled the fuse on the radio when I was trying to hardwire something and the radio did the same thing (just displayed the words ford fusion and did nothing else) once i put the fuse back it came back to life...try it out and good luck...
