Features in the Owner's Guide missing on the 2010 FFH

Recommended Posts

I want to start out saying that I am ecstatic about my new FFH which I've had for just over one week. I got the Atlantis Green with Stone leather interior and 502A option pack. I'm getting over 40 mpg - Sync continues to amaze me - what's not to love about this car? Maybe I'm over analyzing this, but there are several items that I read about in the Owner's Guide that are missing or different from my car:

A.) No glove box light. The Owner's Guide indicates on the top of page 79 what the replacement number is for the glove box light bulb, but I don't have a light or a switch in there. Did they forget to install one in mine or do all of you not have a light in the glovebox too? If so, Ford put ambient lighting in the center console, cupholders and everywhere else - why didn't they put an LED in the glovebox?

B.) No coinholder in the center console. On page 86 the Guide indicates:

Your vehicle may be equipped with a variety of console features. These include:

1. Cupholders with ambient lighting <check>

2. Secondary storage bin. <check>

3. Utility compartment with power point, AIJ, USB port, and coinholder inside <check, except for the coin holder> and

4. 110-Volt power outlet on he back of the center console. <check>

I guess the operative words are "may be equipped" which means some of them might not be present. I guess the alternate coin location is the little felt lined drawer on the dash to the left of the steering wheel? Does anyone have a coinholder in their console?

C.) Seat warmers only have two power positions: High and Low. Near the bottom of page 126 the Guide indicates a Navigation-based system (which I have) should have three power settings: High, Medium and Low. Mine only has two as per the DATC equipped vehicle. How many settings are on yours (if you have the NAVI)?

Beyond these items that are supposed to be there, does anyone else miss the following?

1) A recessed handle in the trunk lid to pull it closed without putting your hands all over the paint on the trunk lid (even our 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid has this feature)

2) HomeLink so you don't have to have a bunch of remote controls attached to your sun visor.

3) Metal or plastic door sill trim instead of stick on decals

I see that you can get nice aftermarket door sills for older models of the Fusion. Perhaps they will come out with ones for the 2010 (if not out already)?

Okay, I'll quit complaining. I love the car and hope it helps Ford out of the sales doldrums they are in. The Fiesta should help too when fuel continues to rise like it's doing.

The 2009 Toyota Prius has a puny (small) 12 volt battery, how is the FFH ?

The HomeLink would be especially nice. The only other thing I don't see in your list is a lock for the glove box, but that's been discussed before and some folks wanted it and others didn't.

I have been wondering that too, why no homelink? I have been enjoying that feature on my past three cars. If it were new technology I could understand, but it has been so common for years now that is nearly as common a feature as electric windows and locks.

Thanks, now I know I'm not alone with the missing three position seat heaters. That must have been discontinued before they even started building them.

But has anyone looked in their glovebox to see if there was a light when they open it or if their console has a coin holder? I want to ask my dealer to install both of these if others have them. Thanks.

I have neither.

The glove box light is annoying, don't care about the coin holder or the 3 heat positions.

Not that it was miss-advertised but I was surprised the gas flap does not lock.

Ford is still (actually more than ever) doing the "We have three brands and we have to keep some features for the premium brands" dance. Apparently they were considering having memory seats and HomeLink in the FFH but then decided that those were Lincoln exclusive features. They don't HAVE a Lincoln hybrid. They should at least have offered HIDs, memory seats, and HomeLink on the Mercury hybrid.

If Ford wanted to save money they should drop the brand crap. I must be different than Joe average but I don't give a crap if the car says Ford or Mercury or Lincoln. I care about the style sure, but not the name plate.

Just so that I'm not too much of a thread hijacker...

1) No glove box light on my 502A

2) No center coin holder but I do like the drawer. I just wish it was contoured to hold the coins in some non-random fashion.

3) I'm not sure why people want the gas cover lock. Every car I have owned in the last 15 years has had anti-siphon filler pipes. The new capless design is to me better than a locking cap, which is usually an invitation to siphon (pry the lid and you are likely to not have an anti siphon system)

So explain why the 2010 Taurus has massaging seats and the MKS doesn't?

Or why the Taurus SHO gets the same power as the MKS Ecoboost?

Memory seats and homelink ARE available on the Fusion SEL, so it's not a Ford vs. Lincoln thing. It's a hybrid vs. non hybrid thing.

That's weird, we drove an SEL with the 302A package and I didn't think it had homelink or memory seats. I even asked the dealer about it. I guess they could be add-ons outside the package. Several of the dealers I visited said that the 8-way power seats were memory seats but they are not.

I was under the same impression, I didn't think that Home link and memory seats were available on any Fusion. But it would not surprise me because I want a spoiler but I didn't want to buy a Mercury so I will have to wait until new Fusions start to show up in salvage yards.

I could be wrong about the memory seats but I know they added Homelink in either 07 or 08.

It looks like they removed the homelink option and it never had memory seats. I stand corrected.

Sounds like they chose to put in BLIS and other features instead.

Just one of those psycho MONK things... I don't like locks, either, but it would nice if the option was there. Actually, I'd be happier if a button could be pressed inside the car and the door would pop open.

Is there a aftermarket locking gas cap for the capless system ? I not as much worried about someone stealing gas but anyone walking by could easily pour in some sugar, dirt or whatever happens to be handy

I had the same immediate concern about the fuel fill/door. What would stop some kid from pouring

something down there? The sales guy showed me there is a hard latch mechanism that will open

with the gas nozzle being pushed in. I didn't fill the car (don't own yet), so I'd have to see this.

But he did convince me that it would take some serious effort to get something down there without

working at it.

after I used Google (should have b4 posting) came across this "only an object the size of a fuel filler pump can depress both tabs and allow the spring-loaded metal flap to open" but I venture to guess crud could still fall into the tank so change the fuel filter when recommended & keep the (filler area) clean !? (not trying to find fault with the system just want to think it through)

Have you looked at the capless system? It would take quite a bit of effort to get something down there. Actually capless is misleading, it is more like an auto-cap.

A locking gas cap is available, I have one on order.

I saw a picture of one that looked rubber-ish and said it was coming. This must

be what you are referring to, but I can't find the link now. I saw a picture of it,

please post if you have a link.

I think it would be hard to open up, but I would hate somebody to "try" and get into

the thing and break it before realizing it was near impossible.

From the Owner''s Manual;

"FUEL FILTER

Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuel filter that is integrated with

the fuel tank. Regular maintenance or replacement is not needed."

I don't mind the capless design, I just wish that the door had a latch just to smooth out the look.

I bought my new FFH on 8/6/09 also Atlantis Green, but with the Black Interior. I had the dealer add the Homelink. It took them a few hours to install into the driver side visor.

What are the details for the Homelink installation? Any idea what the part numbers were, and how much did it cost?

Here's another picture. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fordmotorcompany/2668284893/ The key locks and unlocks it. It's about $20 at the dealer.
