$1,700 tax credit

Recommended Posts

The $1,700 tax credit for an FFH or MMilanH runs from April 1 to September 30, 2009. Assuming you don't fall into the AMT trap or don't actually pay in over $1,700 in federal taxes throughout the year, you should qualify by ordering before the end of September.

I read an article written June 1 on SmartMoney that explained the stimulus bill has made it possible for folks affected by the AMT to claim the hybrid tax credit in 2009. I also found this quote:

In the past, though, taxpayers who were subject to the alternative minimum tax were ineligible for the hybrid tax credit. In addition, some taxpayers who were close to the threshold for the AMT saw the amount of their credit reduced.

However, a clause in the stimulus bill allows taxpayers who are subject to the AMT to claim the credit, starting this year, says Amy McAnarney, executive director of H&R Block's Tax Institute. The credit, which is scheduled to expire at the end of 2010, can't exceed your tax liability, she says.

I hope this is true as I just ordered a Fusion Hybrid and I fear I will be trapped by the AMT again this year.

Thanks for the info. I'm not certain if I'll be subject to AMT, but this is good to know.
