Recommended Posts

Gonna pull the trigger on a 09 se with sync in the near future and was wondering if i got my hands on a factory nav system, would it work with my current setup? If so what is the part # on the nav system I would need to pull this off.

thanks in advance for the help.

Ok. this great, the factory nav will work with the sync system with the best. i have an 08, if you want all the parts and numbers you will need to make the swap. its all plug and p[lay but you have to replace a wire harness from the apim to a juntion under the center console, streering wheel switches for audio control. and add the gps antenna. i have all but the harness price. just buying piece at a time. also if you get the nav radio you will need a dealer to do a module upgrade takes about an hour. and you need to have the old radio to make it work. its called pmi with an upgrade.

If you got part numbers, please give them up. My dealer and sync still claim that it is not possible to do at this point, but they are working on it.

Thanks, big ups.

yea . i have been really busy tearing my own car apart looking for the difference for none nav cars. if you have audiophile or atleast sync with the mic in the mirror you should be able to just purchase a unit gps antenna and have if flashed for your car. i just purchased my nav unit and parts will post ALL PART numbers as they are and how it will work. found out that the 2008 cars and newer will be wired mostly the same to save cost on different main harness. small parts would have to be changed. too 2 hours of hard looking and alot of reading and understanding that ford made most of the cars somewhat compatable. but you must have the mic in the mirror aka sync equiped cars. none sync will not work due to parts may not be in vehicle may need more parts example, steering wheel switch and Mirror kit for mic, wiring to steeringwheel if it does not have volume control new harness from clockspring to acm. audio control module. etc. and thats just the beginning. it looks like the thx and audiophile people lucked out the most on the nav upgrade. and no it does not matter whether the car is a manual of auto. except for the rear view cam but thats not an option for our cars.

What hardware/software is needed to make an 07 fusion with factory nav accept the sync system?

Hi elite. :D Currently, it cannot realistically be done.

While it should certainly be able to be accomplished theoretically, no on has yet decided to throw the necessary bundle of money and time that would be needed and been able to get it working with full functionality. And even if they did, it would still not have the full functionality and features of the Factory version.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Any update on this? I'm picking up a 2009 SEL with the audiophile system and would like to swap it out with the nav and still keep full SYNC integration.

Hi there... I do hope that you realize that most of the time the navi systems integrate in with the car directly... For example I have known some navi systems which directly link to the park/reverse/drive system and your spedometer... the reason why the manufacturer does this is so that if you are driving through a long tunnel (like those best known around washington DC) it can still calculate that you are driving and how far it has traveled on the road it last knew you were on...

Again I agree with the other post above that your quest is most likly impossible if not integrated in by the manufacturer and still integrate sync... Especialy since Sync is totally integrated in with the sound system and is expanded with the integrated radio (i.e. being able to control volume levels via voice).

Good luck.. In a way I hope you find the answer you are looking for somewhere out here on the great plains of the internet!

sorry for the long break. Build, Buying a home, fusion got put on the back burner. The set really works well with 2008 and up. ford has all the wiring for 2008, a new way of build the car up. having the wiring or most of the connectors availible. the wiring diagram for 2007 is way off with out factory nav. only 2008 has most everything. and YOU MUST get the radio programmed with as built data or have a dealer reflash the unit with everything you have in it. they can find a similiar vehicle and flash that as built data to the car,2008-09 only. 2007 requires a wire harness upgrade the kit is about 2000 installed from most of the dealer network upfitters.

just curious, why go with factory nav when you can do aftermarket nav for nearly half the price?

That's what I was thinking. Then again, if it can be pulled off relatively simply then the integration (both aesthetically and functionally) may be worth it.

I just got a new Cruchfield catalog and was looking at the better built in Nav. units and in order to come close to the Ford Nav it would cost you 12 to 15 hundred dollars plus I bet at least a few hundred to have it installed. Which puts it about even with the factory nav and still don't have all the built in features. Unless you have had a few days of driving a Fusion with the nav built in to really truely understand what all it does then you really can't make a informed desision. Of couse you can always buy one of those $69 nav units I see on sale at the discount chains but then again compare it to a $400 Garmin and it is like night and day. Thats what I feel about the Ford nav against the compartible aftermarket units.

Share a email i got from Ford Dealer in Dallas

"Mike,

As it stands right now , Ford is hammering out the procedures for adding a

factory Nav unit for the Fusion.

They are in the process, but there are still a few kinks that need to be

ironed to insure proper operation.

I will inform you when the upgrade is available."

Anymore updates to this great upgrade? I have a 2010 SE and would love to install one of these. I have the sync and audiofile built-in. Am I to understand that the mic is in the mirror?
