Window Tinted Fusions, report.

I just had my 2010 tinted with Formula One Pinnacle tint since my car is Tuxedo Black I figured I would go with the best tint I could find. Pinnacle Series - FormulaOne High Performance automotive film

I can't believe the heat reduction of this film! You can feel the sun coming through the front window compared to the sun coming through one of the tinted ones. Huge difference in heat. I had all the windows except the windshield done and I'm probably going to go back and have that too as well.

Mine cost about $350 to tint with this high performance stuff. Regular tint would have cost $179.

 

 

 

Plus I love the look with the new tint.

 

Looks good. How did the film do over the dot matrix on the back window?

Anyone have small bubbles that won't go away? I had mine retinted over 3 weeks ago and the weather has been warm and sunny and I still have small bubbles on most of the windows. Not really excited about having to get it retinted again. Any thoughts?

$265 with Solarguard near me. Haven't decided yet on 5% or 20%. Starting to lean towards 20%, too dark in the back at night can have it's drawbacks, beside with car seats back there, no room for You KNow What! :)

Few suggestions: Shop around and go to a reputable tint shop. Clean your ride very well beforehand, and most importantly, carefully inspect it, upon completion of the work.

 

Just got my brand new 2010 FFH done, and they ended up etching/scratching the rear glass, after they had laid the film on the rear window to measure/cut it with their olfa. They must have had a bad blade or neglected to snap a new one. I immediately informed them. Tomorrow's day three, and I'll roll down the windows and see if they screwed anything else up, then we'll talk about a resolution to the problem.

 

Man sorry about that I know how it feels. I had a mint 01 SS camaro rear hatch glass scratched badly by a tint shop and they never replaced it.

I do know another shop that is really good though so I am going to give them a call about my fusion. I had 2 cars done at this shop and they did a perfect job.

On the % ive had quite a few different shades and my favorite so far has been the 22% that is offered at the good shop which is a line-x. I tried 35% before and it was a little too light for me and I tried 15% and it was a bit too dark specially backing up at night.

I also was pulled over twice with the 22% on my windows and the police never even mentioned a word about it.

I just bought a 2010 fusion sport. Had the windows tinted at the "dealer special price"...$199. Not sure how great of a deal it was but it seemed reasonable and they did a good job, even got good coverage on the "dimples". Wisconsin state law is 50% front and 35% rear. Actually bought it as an Alaska resident which has stricter laws( 50/37%) but also avoided that nasty state income tax. I've gotten to the point in my life where I prefer avoiding the man as opposed to fighting the man...although I think the man should just leave me alone and let me tint the windows I paid for howevere I please! Anyhow, 50% tint is nearly worthless. Prolly protects from skin cancer and keeps the car cooler as well as protects the upholstrey...but not a privacy provider in any way and it doesn't make the car look much better. 35% is nearly good enough for looks and privacy, and all around I would be happy with it. We have a '97 BMW M3 as well 20% fronts and 15% backs. Looks great, excellent privacy...and not been ticketed...yet. The bimmer spends most of it's time in Ohio and Tennessee so maybe the laws are different. I know you're wondering why cars in so many states...it's a military thing. As a caveat...and I'm not trying to start a field fire here, but all kinds of people need tintied windows. Sadly, some people have xeromascia pigmentosum and cannot be exposed to light or it severely damages their DNA and skin. Some people get migraine headaches or cluster headaches triggered by bright light and really need darker tint. Some doctors are able to identify these conditions and write prescriptions stating a patient requires dark tinting to prevent these conditions (Like LT). And when cops pull people over people who have too much tint and have these conditions or a prescription for dark tint to prevent exacerbations of these conditions, they are legally protected. I also found it interesting that while there are laws that define how much light must be allowed in, there are few laws that state how "see through" the windows have to be...so maybe privacy tinting is an option without violating tinting laws or defrauding the healthcare system. Obviously I came up with this stuff after the horse got out of the barn, but darn it, the horse is caught now and the next time I need to tint wondows again it will be done properly!

Here is the tint job on my new Fusion. I'm not pleased with the back window at all. I'm thinking about going the black vinyl route to make up the gap between the tint and the top of the back window.

I have the exact same issue with my back window, it's blotchy at the top where the painted dots are. I'm going to try a hair dryer/ heat gun while rubbing it (not a sexual comment) to see if I can get it to stick. I brought mine back to the tinter and he said "there's nothing I can do". Useless guy, he could have told me before hand that I would of had an issue, or even during the process that there was an issue. Worst part is, mine is really noticeable because I have 5% all around, so the top of the back window honestly looks like frost all the time.

 

I'm going to try in the next day or two, so I'll let you know what I can do.

I talked to the tint shop about the dot matrix and they said to push out the tint after about a week or so and if all else failed they'd add the black vinyl. Well, the dot matrix looked almost exactly like the pictures from rdgoeson4ever, and both the shop and I tried to push on the tint around the black dots without success. I used my thumb, a squeegee, a heat gun. Nothing made it look acceptable. So, just had the black vinyl added and have to say I'm pretty pleased with the results. Here's a couple of pics, one from the outside, before (on right) and after. The other from the inside, just to show how it looks, although I have to say it doesn't look even this obvious while I'm driving. Visibility isn't a problem at all (it's more the high deck on the bottom that's a problem in this car). You couldn't see through the matrix field anyway, especially after the tint was added.

Just a little advise for those of you that want to go a little darker than legal on your tint. Every vehichle I have owned has had illegal tint on them. Not 100% positive but I have never recieved a ticket for window tint. Speeding, Wreckless Driving, Seat belt violations yes, tint, no. When I get pulled over, I put all of my windows down, regardless of the weather, day or night. I've had officers comment on how dark my tint was but never cited me. I believe it's because I take away their fear of not knowing who and what is on the other side of the tint. On my current 2010 Fusion Sport I went with 15% on the back and 35% on the front. I will be taking the tint off and going to a minimum of 15% on the front if not 5% all around when I get to it. I recommend using Llumar film.

well i have a pretty illegal setup as well. i have 35% on the windshield, a 4%windshield strip, 15% on the front windows, and 4% on the remaining windows. Looks good, just not exactly legal. btw no night driving problems for me yet.

They cut out the tint from the inside and replaced it with vinyl. Best way in my opinion on the Fusions.

Here's a few shots of mine...

 

It's 20% all the way around with the winshield strip, which is a little below the 27% limit in Colorado. I'd recommend the window strip also.. I think it completes the look. I did get pulled over the other day, but only because the cop couldn't see my temp tag through the back window. When he walked up to my car after he pulled me over, he got close enough to see the temp plate and that was it. He never even questioned the tint.

 

I wouldn't recommend going much darker than 20% as it does make it a bit tough to see out at night. I'm 25 with perfect vision, and I wouldn't go any darker myself. 20% looks good, especially in the dark.

 

I have the same issue with the white in the dot matrix also. I'm going back next week to get the vinyl strip.

I got 20% all around with an eyebrow (below the AS-1 line) and I absolutely love it!

 

The cops are really strict with the tint laws around here, but I mostly drive with my windows down. If its cloudy outside and the traffic police are stopping cars, I normally crack the windows a bit and turn on the dome lights. 20% is just right for me.
