Looking into the 2017 ford fusion used

Hey guys,

 

So I am looking into getting a 2017 ford fusion that is used. There was one with about 20k miles for a great price.

 

This would be my first real commuting car. I have a volvo now and I have done enough modding to it that it's not so great for commuting, and I usually get 25 mpg using 93 octane fuel?

 

My main concern is buying a used hybrid. I have very little knowledge of the workings of the powertrain. Is there any issues I should be aware of?

 

My commute is 80 miles a day. 25% hills with backroads, 25% flat highway 60 mph, 25%highway with a good amount of hills, 25% city. My uncle has almost the exact same commute and get 45 ish mpg with his brand new fusion hybrid.

 

Would you all reccomend this as a new commuting car for my needs ? I would keep my current car to take to the track ?

Yep, as would your uncle, I'm guessing! FYI, if you drive it like a track car, you won't get the best MPGs. ;) It's a smooth ride. Drive it gently and it excels.

Nope no track driving! Lol. It will be used strictly for boring gentle driving.

 

Have these hybrids had any problems with miles ? Is it a bad idea to buy one with 20k miles on the clock already?

Be mindful that for 1/2 or so of the 20k miles, the engine was off. Should be a sweet ride.

 

With the money you save on gas, you can buy lots of sticky shoes for track day.

Hmm good point. The electric motor would be working at that point though. Which is the stuff I have no idea how it works. I guess I would get a warranty, new to me....

Look here ... it's where I picked up info when I was waiting on my '15 FFH. Much applies to the '17 models. You don't need all of it so glance through and read the ones that you think you need. Ask questions! :)

No electric motor if stopped in traffic. Just silence. And, the electric motor should last forever. Not much mechanical friction.

 

The hybrid powertrain has an 8 year/ 100k mile warranty from the factory. Batteries, transmission, electric motor, and I guess the ICE too. Not an expert on this, as our 2013 has been largely trouble free. Best car I ever purchased.

 

Goodyear Eagle F1s for me, though track day can eat 'em up. I track at Summit Point, WV on a trike (Slingshot). Made it 5 times last year, but no love this year. We do the Shenandoah circuit, which is a technical track, not an oval. Might be 2 dozen turns. Always go home tired and sore, but seriously grinning like a mad man. Good clean fun.

I would give the same answer regardless of what car you were looking at:

1. Pay for a CarFax report to see the car's history. I know CarFax is not perfect, and not a guarantee of a trouble-free car, but it is at least a good indicator of the car's history.

2. Find a mechanic who is familiar with hybrids, and have him/her look thoroughly over the car, check for problem areas. If you are buying from a dealer, if they refuse to let your mechanic check it out, pass on the vehicle and keep shopping. I purchased a used Volvo in 2008, and found the car I wanted. I had a mechanic check it out and he advised me that there were serious problems with the engine and it would cost me a lot of money down the road. I passed on the car and found another one a week later with higher miles (40K), but a clean bill of health from the mechanic. I bought and kept it until 2013 when I bought my first FFH. I sold it with 130K trouble-free miles.

I bought a '17 Titanium Hybrid a week ago. It had 37k miles. No hesitation on my part, and you can't beat the price on a year old Hybrid As was mentioned, checked the Car Fax, no accidents, was a rental, but is darn near perfect. I got 50 mpg on my mixed test drive, been averaging about 43 for the week & a half I've had it. Hope you decide to buy it, I doubt you'll have any regrets!

I purchased my 18 FFH SE with the SE appearance package certified used in May with 19K. Mine came with 12K added to the 5/60,000 and 3/36,000. I have my FFH covered to 100,000 with a deductible covering everything. I initially drove a 90/10 highway/city mix and achieved 41 AVG. Now that I am driving mostly driving city I recently got 46.7 AVG and 630.5 miles. If the vehicle is in excellent condition and you feel comfortable purchase the beauty and enjoy the nice ride.

Bought my 2017 SE in July. Had 31k on the clock and was a "Hertz" car. Had regular documented maintenance due to being a rental. Bought from a local ford dealer which made a a CPO vehicle with warranty that comes with that. Traded my hybrid training wheels (05 prius) on it.. Bought at a good price and have never looked back!
