This is a poll to determine if the public prefers the Chevy Malibu or the Ford Fusion (as if sales don't give the answer).

FFH

- ICE is larger and has slightly more HP

- HVB is larger thus can go slightly further all-electric

- styling is better IMO

- small trunk space with low pass-thru; FFE has no pass-thru. Fiesta has 12.5 cu. ft to FFH 12.

 

Malibu Hybrid

- smaller ICE - 1.5 L to 2.0 L

- smaller HVB - 1.5 KWh vs 1.7+ KWh

- styling nothing to write home about

- trunk is 15 cu ft ... 25% more than FFH

- pricing of 2019 Malibu Hybrid is about the same as FFH SEL trim (no incentives or taxes)

- EPA numbers slightly better than FFH.

 

I've been checking hybrids other than Ford for the day that the FFH goes. It's a good, solid car but Ford has pretty much discouraged me from keeping with the brand, so I checked Malibu, Insight and Prius (so far). I have a few more to check before I narrow the list more.

I'm curious why you're looking and evaluating now, when your FFH is a 2017 and quite new. My FFH is a 2015 and I'm waiting until I'm near to wanting a new car which won't be until probably model year 2021 or later. Lots can happen in development of cars in the intervening years.

Fair question. Lemme give you a bit of recent history. 2010 - bought 2011 Fiesta; Dec '11 - added 2012 Fiesta; 2014 - replaced both Fiestas with new ones; 2015 replaced one Fiesta with a 2015 FFH; 2016 - replaced '15 FFH with 2017 FFH.

 

See the pattern? <grin> I have held off pulling the trigger on anything for a couple reasons: I just paid off the '17 and rather enjoy the extra bucks in my retirement budget ... and ... So far I have seen nothing particular to when Fusion will/may actually end and am keeping options open.

 

Really, look at prior articles ... have you seen a specific model end date for Fusion? Fiesta, Focus and Taurus were all reported as May 2019 ... but NOT Fusion. Why? I hold out hope.

If Ford isn't willing to put R&D effort and money into future versions of the FFH, then I really don't care if they discontinue it or not. By the time I'll want a new car, other brands will have new improved versions.

The Honda Clarity PHEV is rated at 47 miles all electric. That's more than twice the range of my 2013 Energi. A friend has one that gets over 50 miles in warm weather. I think it came out in 2017. Ford should have been well beyond this point by now. Instead they focus on super cars that only a billionaire could afford.

Unfortunately, you are highly outnumbered. Trucks and SUVs are in high demand and generate huge profits for automakers.

Unfortunately, I have lost most of my faith in Ford. The ugly C-Max was a significant factor in Ford's decline, and now they have the even uglier EcoSport. Ford considered the C-Max to be a replacement for the Escape Hybrid, which was a big mistake. If Ford had produced a crossover (or wagon) version of the FFH and Fusion Energi, I'd still be driving one of their vehicles.

Disagree.  I have zero interest in a truck or an SUV.  Maybe a van you can sleep in the back of but SUVs are pointless.  Trucks have good utility of course but so does a van.

I, like you, have no interest in a truck or SUV. But that doesn't mean that trucks and SUVs aren't in high demand and make more money for Ford.

That's about to change very soon as people are going to rapidly migrate from being irrational and emotional to responsible.  Nearly the entire rest of the world makes decisions based on rational and sound thinking.  Americans are soon to catch up.

I'm not an SUV fan myself, but the writing is on the wall.  The rest of the world is catching up with "irrational" decisions, not the other way around.
