New FFH owner, did I buy a lemon ?

Hello all

 

I was so excited to pickup my new FFH last friday at the dealer.

 

Traded in my F150 Lariat 2015 for the Fusion, I was to take onwership of the car at 11h am, unfortunatly I left the ealer at 16h with a courtesy car.

 

500 meter out of the dealer the Parking brake light turned on, and never turned off again.

you can hear the brake when it engage and disengage when you press the button, but the light stays on all the time.

 

Dealer put the car on the computer and what not, could not figure it out.. aparently today, Ford willl remotely diagnose the car and get this thing fixed.

 

The car as been sitting in the lot for a long time I guess since the battery had to be replace before they handed it to me.

 

Does annyone else had these kind of issue? is this the problem I should expect by buying this car?

 

I had so high expectation for the car, I'm feeling riped off now.

No...this is not normal and you should not expect anything but a great car.

Was this after the purchase was completed, or during a test drive? Was everything OK during the test drive or did you not have one?

I test drive a different fusion in the lot.

 

Dealer called me back today to confirm the issue was with a sensor that looks at the travel of the brake system and not giving the right signal thus keeping the light on.

 

Car should be ready by tomorow at noon.

 

cant wait to sit in my car.

A couple things that might help in the future. When buying off the lot, drive the car(s) you are interested in. This particular fluff would have been very evident on that drive. If they had stated it needed a battery due to sitting, then my response would have been "Should I wait or want me to come back another time?" - giving them the idea they might lose a customer without saying it.

 

The battery - this might have gone bad (lost its charge) from just sitting on the lot and not getting charged. There is a thread in here about that but basically it takes about 30 days for the car to need a jump start due to low battery. I can vouch for that as my brother had let his FFH sit over a month and needed to trickle charge the LVB before he could use it.

 

The dealer - I say kudos to them for stepping up and taking on the locating of the problem and keeping you in the loop as they tried to resolve it all. You will be quite pleased with your car once you can actually sit in it and drive it.

Probably just a fluke. Can't remember anyone reporting a similar problem. Enjoy your new car! Read up on it. It's a little different, if you're not familiar with hybrids. Ask questions. Lots more eager help here.

picked it up at noon, ride home was awesome !

I saw some thread in here about the empower and the other display I just forgot the name, gotta read more about it as I dont have a clue what they are showing me, also saw some thread about driving technique that I need to read on too.

If you are reading those threads, please follow the advisory that several wrote in there. Spend some quality time in the car - with the manual - and learn what screens are what, where controls are, etc. I spent almost 2 hours going through and handling every single control or button that I could, then setting things the way I wanted them.

 

The screen left of the speedometer has a short tutorial that I started with and then I went from there. The car should be running and during this process it will advise of shutting off unless you respond. Respond so that you can continue with the learning. This session will pay off later when you might want to change things. You will know exactly where they are and how to do it without fumbling.

 

Have fun! Ask questions when you get puzzled!

Also, read all the manuals completely through. Even if you have never done so for another car, it will be very rewarding. You probably will not remember everything you read but there will be a hint in your memory when something unusual occurs. These are unusual cars in a good sense.

You got that right ... I am just wrapping up my first NY Winter for the FFH. Most stable handling car I've had in many years. Now that temps are rising a bit the gas mileage has also started to improve although it never dropped below 32-35. Can't say enough good about this car.

yes I'm a big fan of reading the owner manual, i've done it for all my cars, whatever I may know about cars, I always find something new and valuable in the manual. I never considered it a waste of time.

Couldn't agree more with the advice to read the manual. I downloaded it to my iPad and am surprised how much I pick up each time I use it. The FFH is an awesome car! Picked ours up in mid-December '15 and averaged in the high 30's in the cold weather. We took it to Florida and the temps here are like summer at home. Got 49 mpg on one tank.The current tank is all city driving in St. Petersburg and the read-out each time I shut it down is amazing me. Lovin' it more each day. Drive it and enjoy it.

Totally agree on reading the manual. I put almost 7k on my 2016 FFH since Nov 2015 and still open the manual once in a while and always find something new and useful. You will love it, the most stable driving car I have driven beside my wife's BMW years ago. When I corner or drive down a ramp, I definitely feel that the centrifugal force is defeated by its stability. I hope it is also reliable down the road. First time Ford owner.
