Installed Radar Detector (Which Fuse?)
apm replied to Ryan Trotter's topic in Alarms, Keys & Remote Start
I built a cable myself for my Escort Passport similar to the Invisicord (www.invisicord.com), using a telephone cable and $5 worth of parts from Radio Shack. I connected it to the back of the rearview mirror. Unfortunatelly I sold the car and I don't remember which pins I used on the back on the mirror. It worked great, the radar would come on when the car was started. I wish I could find a solution similar to this for my 2013 Fusion, but there is a camara on the back of the mirror and there are no pins showing. Regards, APM -
Need help deciding between Energi or regular Fusion
apm replied to Danielg280's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I don't think the Energi's are selling all that well here in the South Florida area. The dealer where I purchased mine has 4 including the one I ordered back in February and was built on April 1st. Regards, APM -
Need help deciding between Energi or regular Fusion
apm replied to Danielg280's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Hi, My view may be a bit biased because I own an Energi...Most of my driving is in EV mode, but every once I'm a while I have a long trip. Just this past weekend I drove almost 132 miles to Key Largo round trip. Here is the trip information from MyFord Mobile: Trip: 62.7 miles Saturday, Aug 17, 2013 Completed 8:29 PM Energy 3.8kWh Total Amount Used EV Miles 31.1 miles Fuel Economy 52 MPGe 0.8 miles from Regen! 50% EV Trip: 3.9 miles Saturday, Aug 17, 2013 Completed 6:16 PM Energy 0.8kWh Total Amount Used EV Miles 2.7 miles Fuel Econmy 52 MPGe 0.5 miles from Regen! 69% EV Trip: 65.2 miles Saturday, Aug 17, 2013 Completed 3:35 PM Energy 0.6kWh Total Amount Used EV Miles 24.9 miles Fuel Economy 44 MPGe 1.2 miles from Regen! 38%EV Note that the numbers beeing tracked are MPGe, not MPG. It was fairly hot during the entire trip, so the AC was on at about 73 degrees. I used less than 1/4 tank of gas for this whole round trip, plus the entire energy in the big battery (5.2kWh). Hope this helps! Regards, APM -
Yesterday I saw a Fusion SE with Connecticut (I don't remember exactly but it was from the North East) plates, here in the Miami Lakes, FL. area. Not the usual time of the year for snowbirds... Regards, APM

Hi ErichFla, My suggestion would be write to Ford through Facebook or Twitter and have them open a case for you. They may suggest other dealers in your area to go to. I did this for the TSB for the sagging trunk and it worked out very well for me. I have posted my complete experience about this in other threads... just search for my posts. My usual dealer did the TSB for the popping sound and I have not heard it once since. Regards, APM

I had this TSB done a few weeks ago. I just checked and the bar with the sleeve is on top. I have not heard any rattles at all. I guess the trunk is a little bit more difficult to close as the tension bars are trying to keep the trunk open, but I definetly like the way it is now as compared to the trunk coming down at the slightest touch. Trunk release - unlock only, partial open, or full open?
apm replied to Charrua's topic in Body Exterior
I have an Energi Titanium that came with a spoiler. When I used to open the trunk it would take very little force to shut it down as comented by other people. Once I found the TSB I took the car to the dealer, but both the service advisor and the service manager at Autonation Ford in Miami, FL said that it was normal and that they compared it other Fusions with spoilers and all were the same and refused to do the TSB. Of course I was not happy with the answer and contacted Ford through Facebook. They opened a case and directed me to another dealer. They even made the appointment for me. At the second dealer, Gus Machado Ford in Hialeah, FL they compared it to a Fusion without a spoiler and immediately agreed to do the TSB. Unfortunately, they did not have the parts, and had to order them. About a week later the parts arrived and they called me to come back to get the work done. After the TSB was done, the trunk opens to about half way (as in the picture from the OP). The best part is that to "compensate" me for my troubles with the first dealer, Ford gave me the Premium Maintenance plan for 3 years 45K miles 9 service visits for free! Regards, APM -
There could be a big difference if you can stay in electric. My car currently has 3000 miles and I filled up last weekend for only the second time (plus the "free" tank from when I purchase the car). That's an average of about 1000 miles per tank. I used to get about 500 miles per tank on my 2010 Fusion Hybrid. Of course, there is a cost to the electricity I'm using but it is way lower than that the cost of gas per mile. Based on my electric rates, it cost me less than $1 to completely charge the battery and I get about 25 miles to a full charge. The gas is about 3.60 currently in my area. Even using the $1 per charge (which is high), I can get about 90 miles of electric range for the same cost of a gallon of gas. Based on my driving habits the Energi is working perfectly for me. I live in Miami Lakes, just west of the Palmetto on 154th St... Very close to the Don Shula's Golf Course. Regards, APM

I'm always on the lookout for other Energi's but I have not see others yet. I have seen a couple of Hybrids, but as you say, they don't notice me at all. That for sure wasn't because I have not been that far north in a while. The farthest I have been lately is to FLL Airport. Regards, APM

Was that an Energi? Did you see the license plate? See my avatar... that's my actual plate! Regards, APM

The Hybrid will definetely get better milage in the city than a regular gas car. You save gas everytime you get to a red light and the engine stops. In the 2010 Hybrid, the engine would cease to run if the car was completely stopped, even if the engine was cold. This would make the fuel economy of the hybrid better than a gas car even in very short trips even when you don't get any saving by driving EV. By the way, had I not owned a hybrid before I probably would have gone the same route you went and bought a Hybrid this time (probably the MKZ) instead of the Energi. The main reason I bought the Energi is because I already had the experience with the hybrid on short trips and I knew it would fit my driving habits perfectly. I was very happy with the 2010 Hybrid. It was very reliable, I went to the dealer 4 times in 3 1/2 years for oil changes and tire rotations and spent about $120 in maintenance over the period. I have been to the dealer more than that since I bought the Energi in April for various reason but at least I haven't spend any money yet, and I won't spending any money on maintenance in the future because, as I wrote on the Energi Forum, Ford gave me the 4 year/48K miles premium maintenance plan for free to compensate me because my normal dealer did not want to do the TSB for the sagging trunk lid. This is absolutely true. Before the 2010 Fusion Hybrid, I owned a GMC Envoy. I used to get 10 or 11 miles to the gallon doing the same type of driving. When I bought the 2010 FFH I was extremely happy I was getting high 20's instead of 10 or 11. Regards, APM

I owned a 2010 FFH until ealier this year when I traded it in for a 2013 FFE. I experienced the same issue of very low milage on short trip. I usually would take about 1 mile for the car to go into EV, and my usual trip was about 1.6 miles each way. So by the time the engine was hot enogh I would be arriving at my destinatuion and by the time I got in the car to home the car would be cold again and the process would repeat. My milage was in the high 20's low 30's for those trips. I could get high 30's low 40's on longer trips. Now with the Energi all those short trips are 100% EV. I only use gas during the weekends on longer trips. I'm still on my second tank of gas after 2800 miles. Regards, APM

Although the AC is electric, it does impact the overall MPG's of the FFH. The FFH relies on the battery (EV mode) to increase the overall MPG's. If the battery power is used to run the AC it means less power to move the car and therefore lower overall MPG's as the ICE has to run more often to recharge it. Just my 2 cents... APM

Hi, Besides the FFH, I also own a GMC Yukon Hybrid. The Yukon has an engine running time meter. I would be nice to have the time meter in the FFH, particularly because the ICE spend a lot more time off than in the Yukon. APM

Hi, I ordered the flip key a little over a week ago and received it yesterday. Went to my local UPS Store to cut the key. Having read the post here I took out the blade before going to the store. Originally the owner told me that it wasn't the same key but that he would cut if I wanted. I told him to go for it. Came back home and in less than five minutes I had the key and the remote programmed. The most difficult part was finding a key ring small enough to fit the key. The picture in one of the earlier post help a lot, however, please note that the ring should be 1.5 centimeters, not 1.5 inches (big difference!!!) The key and remote work perfectly in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid. APM.

I bought my FFH about 10 days ago from the dealer's lot. Actually they traded with another local dealer to get the color combination I wanted. The dealer that had the color I wanted did not want to come down on the price and wanted $800 for dealer fees. I live in South Florida and purchased my FFH from Sawgrass Ford in Sunrise, FL. They had a least 5 hybrids went I bought mine. They probably still have 3 or 4... APM

Hi, If you have a Electrochromic mirror you can use a cord like the one they sell here... http://www.invisicord.com/index.html I built my own using a regular telephone cord and hook it up in 2010 FFH. I can provide the pinout of the mirror if you send me a private message. APM

Hi, I got a Grey FFH with Black Interior with the 502a package, less than a week ago. I live in South Florida, but they only interior I liked was the black interior. The dealer also had a Ice Blue with black interior that they ended up trading for mine. Also, I have kids, so black interior was the color for me... So far I have put about 250 miles on it and I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the car. I like the Sync system (I thought I would never say that about a Microsoft product!!!) and the navigation and of course the fuel efficiency is just ridiculous... I went to Key Largo over the weekend, 120 miles round trip and averaged 40 MPG. The 2005 GMC Envoy I traded in, was averaging about 12 MPG!!! APM (I will post a few pictures a bit later...)
