I'm surprised that Ford would recommend the Pulse and Glide technique. Here is what it is: I guess their version of P&G means to let the Hybrid system kill the engine, not the driver's key. Also, the owner's manual recommends against driving in Neutral for long periods of time, so I wonder. But anyways, if you want to see a great example of driving for gas mileage, watch the Top Gear episode where the three guys drive from Switzerland to the west coast of Britain on one tank of gas.

What I'm saying is that when the gas engine and it's exhaust system are below their recommended operating temperature, they will create more pollution than at temperature, so when it is cold outside, the engine will run to keep the exhaust system (mainly the catalytic converter) at the proper operating temp. This is how Toyota's Hybrid system works. The Ford system is different, w/such features as not turning on the engine except as needed, but I would think that once it does turn it on it'll try and get it up into the operating temp range and keep it there. Am I completely off base here, if anyone has familiarity w/the system? I do know that the batteries don't operate as well when cold, but the entire hybrid system will be less efficient in cold temperatures, if for no other reason than the engine has to run to keep the cabin warm, since Ford didn't put an electric heater in like the new Prius has. (Don't know if the older Prii had those.)

I could be wrong, but I believe that the sensor is actually on the engine. The engine needs to run to get the exhaust/emissions systems up to a proper operating temperature for proper emissions control.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Ford Sale at MSRP!
NewNole2001 replied to SHEEHYFORDOFRICHMOND's topic in General Discussion
I read somewhere else on the board where someone in the DC metro area got their FFH for way under MSRP. emillham.. hehe, this is my first time purchasing a car. Guess I need to learn to wheel and deal a bit better. The first dealer I went to was like this dealer, wouldn't budge below MSRP, I got discouraged. The other Ford dealer, I thought I'd get a "No" saying 31, but he seemed excited. After that I was like dammit, should have gone lower. Hindsight 20/20 etc. -
2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Ford Sale at MSRP!

Eh, I got my 502A Silver 2010 Fusion Hybrid for 30,900 -
Well, it is a Mercury, which is a "luxury" brand, so think of it as a luxury tax. Plus they probably use nicer leather or something.

I just love the look of the 2010 Fusion so much more than the 2009 and older. The 2010 grille looks menacing, while the 2009s and younger look toyish in comparison.

I'm driving a 1995 Honda Accord LX with 311,000 miles on it. I bought it after my freshman year of college with 177,000 miles on it. She's been a great car. I was unemployed last summer and took her on two trips last summer, one up and down the Eastern Seaboard and one to San Francisco. Aside from burning oil at highway speeds, she never had a single problem on either trip. After a weekend trip in my girlfriend's car, a 2008 Hyundai Sonata, and realizing how much quieter her car was, and I decided it was time for a new car. Obviously, I started looking at Accords, given how many miles the current one gave me. I've come a long way financially since graduating and decided I wanted to buy a fully loaded car, but I was flabbergasted at the prices Honda charges for a fully loaded Accord. Somewhere along the line I read about the FFH, and the nerd in me (I'm a software developer) fell in love with all of the tech in the car. I actually priced out a similarly equipped Honda Accord, and it was only about $1k less than the FFH, although your mileage may vary. This is mind blowing that an Accord is so expensive. Can't wait to get the FFH, although I will be sad to let go of my Accord. :( I wonder if it is possible to take her to the crusher and push the button myself. Kinda like pressing the button on the crematorium.

That was my exact thinking with getting Stone instead of Black leather. That sun is just plain vicious in May-Sept. -
So any discounts on the Fusion Hybrid?

hehe, not a bad idea at all. The dealership I ordered from is River Bend Ford in Bainbridge, GA. I won't name the dealership that wouldn't budge, but you can figure it out if you look at what city I'm in. Anyone in Tallahassee should make the drive to South Georgia and do some shopping around, much better prices to be had. Also, if anyone decides to buy a car from River Bend, let me know. I get a $100 referral fee, and I can give that to you as $100 off the price of your car. (My friend did that for me, so I'll give back to the community :-) ) -

My local dealer did the same w/not budging on price. So I drove 50 miles and got a dealer who ordered the exact FFH I wanted at $1k under MSRP, and was happy to do it. Shop around, shop around, shop around. The dealer that wouldn't budge just got a FFH in for test drives, I can't wait to go waste his time like he wasted mine when I take it for a test drive. -
