  1. The Suburban is 1200 miles down the road until later this winter so I won't be able to get to that one. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure on the van roof but I believe it is smooth. I will try to get a picture up sometime soon but this will probably be the last time I'm on the forum for a bit (I don't do the whole online thing much outside of my morning ritual and my morning ritual is completely different during the holidays). I have magnetic ones for the Suburban and Excursion and have played around with different placement but for the most part I would describe their placement as being symmetrically placed. Same as with the van on being symmetrical, but those are stick on ones. Also, just for more information, the Suburban and Excursion are both at around 150K miles while the van is at 250K. The big boys both got their gaspods at around 70-80K miles. The van didn't get it's until about 140K miles and once it got up to about 180K miles the oldest daughter pretty much took it over as her daily driver. So I only had about 40K miles to see how it was performing before a lead footed teenager started driving it. So maybe results could be better for others on a Caravan.
  2. I'm not sure what more information you want but let me know and I will supply it. Quoting it as MPG, the Excursion only went up by about .34 MPG but the Suburban went up by slightly over 2 MPG. I like to get an idea of MPG but on the big toys as well as the Fusion I pretty much pay more attention to how many miles I have gone on a tank to know when i need to fill it up and that is why I typed it that way.
  3. Been a fun topic to watch and I have almost replied but I typically like to try and stay out of heated discussions where there seems to be two sides that aren't willing to give an inch either way. However, I do have to say you seem to doubt the effectiveness of gas pods which makes me wonder how much you have tested them or how much you know about them in general. I have put the magnetic ones on our 1500 series high efficiency Suburban and our V-10 Ford Excursion. Just normal driving on those two vehicles (not towing) showed completely different results. The Excursion went from about 615 miles to about 630 miles on a 44 gallon while the Suburban went from about 965 miles to about 1050 miles on a 42 gallon tank. We also put them on our Dodge Grand Caravan and saw no difference at all. I have not put them on the Fusion or the Lincoln and will not do so as I don't mind how they look on the larger vehicles and they probably look fine on a hatchback type car. So I can't say if they will make a difference there, but to insinuate that if you believe something works then you must be a fool is a bit off. So, I'm always looking for good land deals, what do you have? I agree; the result will vary depending on the car. I also think like anything else there is the law of diminishing returns and not sure how much more it would net you in the long run cost savings wise. A while ago I thought I remember hearing a couple manufactures (including maybe Ford for the Flex or Edge) have been working to include something as part of the vehicle from the get go. Obviously not a stick on, but part of the design. Have you heard of any manufactures or seen any cars from the factory with something similar to these gas pods? The other things is, what do I have to do in order to get my Suburban listed as an honorary 1000+ Mile member?
  4. Didn't anybody ever tell you not to answer a question with a question??? :)
  5. Doesn't happen a lot but when it does, this bugs the snot out of me.
  6. Ok, so I know this will be a RTFM type question but unlike dfred I haven't read the manual 3 times (only once and scanned parts of it at that...child safety restraints, who cares). Anyway, there are times when I would like to be able to listen to the radio from outside of the car. On all of my other vehicles, I turn the key to accessories and put the windows down and bingo, music on the outside is possible. My 2014 FFH has Intelligent Access with push button start and I cannot figure out how to get the stupid (smarter than me) thing into accessory mode the way I want. I suspect it can be done because one loaner when the Lincoln was in the shop was a 2013 Explorer (they were out of Lincoln loaners) had the exact same setup and I managed to get the thing in "full" accessory mode by accident and had the darndest (I love fake words) time getting it out. So what I would like is to be able to be in the driver seat with the car turned off, turn accessory mode on, put the windows down, open the sunroof, turn the radio on, open the door and not have accessory mode turn off. Another thing that would be nice would be for accessory mode not to time out after a period of time. My kids are older than child restraint age but not all are of driving age so I often have to wait for them to return from sporting events for longer than the time out period of the accessory mode and it never fails to time out right when the most important thing ever is going to be said on the radio and I miss it. Hopefully somebody can tell me how to do this or dfred can quote the page number of where I can find the answer. Thanks
  7. My concierge service call the Ford dealership and scheduled my first oil change and tire roation and asked them about recalls and software updates. They told her my car didn't have any outstanding recalls or software updates yet when I log in to owner.ford.com it shows i have one outstanding recall (FSA 12M02). Who is right? I would think Ford's website would not put bogus recall information out there. In all the years of having my Lincoln I have not seen a recall notice come up and the dealer has never mentioned one to me. At the same time I would hope the dealership would know what they are talking about. On GrySql's "Recalls and Outstanding FSA" post the PDF for this FSA states "Dealers are authorized to perform APIM software upgrades under this program on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria: 1-The vehicle is beyond the terms of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. 2-The vehicle does not contain the latest available software level..." My car is just now at 10,000 miles (dealer delivered 7/24, I'm going to be out of my extended warranty in about 3 months at this pace ;( ) but the requirements in the PDF makes me think I don't need it??? Anyway, the car goes in Thursday for the oil change and roation so I would love to hear some thoughts on this before then. Thanks again for the help you all have already given me on this.
  8. My FFH is going to hit 10K miles one week from today. I will not be the one calling the dealership to schedule the maintenance and I will not be the one taking it but i plan on having the car in next week for the oil change and tire rotation. We have not noticed any issues with the car so I haven't really followed a lot of the post on here about issues and this or that software update fixing it and whatever else I should be reading that I haven't. My question is, will the dealership just automatcially do any required updates or do I have to specifically tell them what I want updated? I'm guessing/hoping that if something is required for the car to operate in a safe manor or to fix a known issue it would be automatic. I also have no clue if these updates cost or are supposed to cost. I tried searching on this in the forums and saw that some people were having dealerships charge them for have DRL activated. So, before I have somebody call to schedule the appointment for the oil change and tire roation, do I need to do additional research on what updates I should ask for or do I just figure everything will be taken care of? Thanks in advance for any responses as I am sure they will all be helpful.
  9. That's a shame because you can save big money at Menards.
  10. With 800+ miles I was at 49.7 MPG and then took a few days off work to fish. My wife got to drive back in forth to work unsupervised. By the time I went back to work, it was too late and my chances of hitting 50 were gone (along with a bit of extra gas). Still, not a bad 1000 mile run.

  12. We heard it once going about 65mph for maybe a minute or so. We just thought something had become stuck on the car but could never find it and haven't heard it since. When it starts happening is it non-stop or does it come and go without a major slowdown?
  13. With 1 DTE and that many miles, I would have went for 700. No guts, no glory...but then again no walking to the gas station a half mile up the road either. So how many gallons did you put in when you filled it up?
  14. On our 2001 Excursion, the dim position "melted" on a trip down to Florida during an incredibly hot stretch one July. It now has a wavy line seperating the top 1/4 to 1/3 from the bottom. The bottom is stuck on dim and the top is on. If that ever happens on my FFH, I will be upset. Didn't mind so much on the Excursion and it was really cool watching it as it melted.
  15. I did a search in this forum and didn't see where this question has been asked. If I overlooked it forgive me please. How often do you get your tires rotated? Every car I have ever had I always rotated the tires every 5K miles. My 2014FFH recommends oil change and tire rotation every 10K. Why did Ford choose 10K for the tire roation? Was it just to keep it on shcedule with the oil change maybe? Do most of you follow the 10K recommendation or opt to rotate every 5K still? Thanks in advance for any responses.
  16. We test drove a couple and then ordered ours and never thought to drive it before taking it off the lot once it came in. I kept kicking myself thinking we got a screwed up one since I never noticed the sound and slight vibrations one the test drive. So I did the sneaky thing and jumped in the old beater we have and went to a different Ford dealership and test drove 3 other FFHs and they all seemed to be the same. Same sounds more or less and same feel. I felt better. So if you are a bit concerned about getting the run-around from a dealer on why it sounds and feels that way, maybe think about test driving a few at a different lot. Who knows, maybe you will find one you like enough to pick up a spare FFH.
  17. When i put my VIN in last week and again just now under the "Vehicle Software" section it states information is available for my car and has a "Click here" link to view further information. When clicking the link, it takes me to the "Changes & Upgrades" section and states "The information you have requested is not available at this time." Anybody else have the same issue? It is my first time using their site so maybe I just did something wrong. On the plus side, there are no "Outstanding Field Service Actions" listed.
  18. Nice to see others using a kayak for some bass fishing. So how did hauling that hurt your gas mileage?
  19. First post ever. 6th fill up and we made it into the 600 mile club. I do have a question about the gas tank. Every time we have filled up so far we have been over 500 miles and it has taken between 10.25 and 12.5 gallons. This last fill up took 13.92 gallons. Now I am not doing the Larry Riley Jr. stop/start every gallon fill up process, I just let her go until it clicks off and I do not top off. So how did I manage to pump 13.92 gallons into a 13.5 gallon tank?
