  1. Well I'll be: http://tech.slashdot.org/story/13/06/05/1921221/keyless-remote-entry-for-cars-may-have-been-cracked That's not good. That said here's what I was trying to explain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_code
  2. Well the codes are kinda like the Fibonacci sequence, if you get just one it isn't enough to figure out what the next number in the sequence is. That said, the advice of avoiding people pointing sat dishes at your junk is still prudent. Though to pick up the signal doesn't require a sat dish, only a proper receiver.
  3. Actually yes. And here's the thing, the keys have a rolling code, meaning each time you press it you get a different code based on the last code. The car basically follows the same pattern, but pre-calculates a bunch of the next codes (just in case you press the key a bunch of times and it doesn't read it). Once it sees the new code it moves on to the next set of pre-calculated responses and so on. While hard to explain, if someone did happen to hit the same code, they'd be unlikely to hit the next code in the sequence. With anti-scanning it becomes darn near impossible to get in via this method. That said, if the person has your initial code all bets are off.
  4. I'd refrain from poking the bear... He's just grumpy because someone ask similar questions earlier this week (or was it last) and was quite rude. He went though and made that post to try and address questions like yours, but it was lost in the shuffle. The post is now pinned in the Welcome forum.
  5. I was being facetious. It didn't translate well now that I re-read my comment.
  6. Is it possible? Sure. But is it likely? No. More likely something else was done without being documented/realized. Either that or you're imagining it.
  7. That's what I did, worked out fine for me.
  8. So I drove "badly" (fast acceleration, somewhat hard braking due to people on bikes) and got some of the best numbers I've had yet. Not sure why.
  9. From the album: MPG

  10. Well I haven't seen it since I washed my car this past weekend, so no, not yet. I'll try to take a picture if I see it again.
  11. I was trying to keep the list to ones I've seen here a lot, but sure, there you go.
  12. I understand now where I can reset things, thanks to earlier comments in this thread. The issue for me is more of a design rather than education. On all the rest of the menu based MPG averages, you hold OK to reset. That's fine and consistent. But all of the other MPG averages you can reset have a menu item dedicated to them (with the exception of the current trip which you cannot reset anyways). The design is inconsistent at that point. So instead of being blindingly obvious, education is needed. That is the point I was trying to raise. I'll probably go through all the menus on my SE at some point and put together a full map here as well as what button does what. I think it is a little different than the HyTi.
  13. So there's a great post with a lot of information here: http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/6816-useful-information-for-all-new-forum-users/ That said, I know this would have helped me out about a week ago. 14. I don't really mind there being 5 versions of the truth, I mean I can sort of understand, but it needs to be clearly documented in the manual. The killer is the lifetime has a menu item where as the "Avg" does not.
  15. 250 miles to the 40 MPG. I'm hoping for approximately 50 once my car is broken in.
  16. Wow, um, how do I put this. That shielding is not to protect you. It is to protect the wires from induced charges. By running a ground around the wires you get proper signals and no ground loops. If it was to protect the passengers, they'd simply build a Faraday Cage around the passengers and be done with it. Seriously you're exposed to more radiation cooking popcorn. People claim all sorts of things, real or imagined. The posts you're referring to can be explained by the placebo effect.
  17. And is it like mine or does it say anything needs work? Oh and the MPG graph can be changed to be multiple minutes (up to 6), so you can capture up to 30 minutes of driving. You might be able to see some trends from that.
  18. No, it is like a scratch in the glass, not on the surface. Looks kind of like a spiderweb on the glass.
  19. No, you misunderstand, I meant the owner's manual didn't make that clear, at least to me, that there were 5 different averages it keeps, current trip, trip 1, trip 2, life time, and engage.
  20. Go to MPG on the left hand screen (left, down to mpg and then right). Then use the up or down arrow to show a set of bar graphs, they'll show how you're doing on acceleration, braking and cruising. Looks like:
  21. Thanks, I know it seems silly, but it isn't labeled....
  22. There is a LED on the mirror that lights up when someone is in your blind spot. You can turn off the monitor, make sure it is on. It is controlled by the left hand screen on your dash.
