  1. Sounds pretty normal to me and I'm just a few miles south of you.

Even with the heat on the engine will eventually shut off but the heat that's in the engine is being used to heat the cabin "cooling" down the engine.

That's one of the programming updates they made way back to lower the temp threshold in order to allow the car to go into EV (like waiting @ a red light) much sooner especially in cold weather than before.

There is at least on thread on this topic were hybridbear made some nice test.

  2. If you set the HVAC on Auto and set a temperature of 70, what happens? The ICE should run and the car should get warm no matter how you're driving. In Wisconsin in winter, the ICE might not run to warm up much driving at slower speeds unless you are calling for cabin heat.

Excellent question and the answer that will be telling.

While driving around town the temps definitely stay around that first threshold mark only if you go faster for longer stretches it will get higher. That being said back in slower traffic the temp will drop down again.

All that I can see on my drive to work and that is with my grill blocked and calling for heat at 68 F on fan low.

  3. If you use EPA # you are only getting 4mpg better as to I'm getting 10mpg better than EPA#. :shift: :) BTW I use 50psi. :)

Some members come here looking for help with their FE problems and I give them options that have worked for me for 122K mi. I also drove 2014 FFH for month and did testing on it to prove my ideas worked for FFH also. I don't see you offering any solutions for FFH members with FE problems. IMO :)

    Paul

You are right about members coming here for ideas to improve on FE and while some of your advice is valuable I personally think you are overachieving for the majority of people reading it.

  4. Okay, I understand. Glad it was not the $ ;)

At my Quick Lane they stick a little clear sticker in the upper left corner of the windshield that tells me what the odometer reading will be for the next 5000 mile interval. I use 5W-20 (a suitable substitute according to the owner's manual) instead of 0W-20 (full synthetic) and change at 5000-6000 mile intervals which also matches up nicely for the proper tire rotation interval.

That little sticker is always the first thing I remove after an oil change at the Ford dealer.

I recently had a puncture fixed on my wife's Explorer at an independent shop and had them do an oil change. I was presently surprised that they did not put the typical 5000 mile sticker in the upper left windshield corner.

  5. Although you can jump start other vehicles, don't forget that you are putting your hybrid components under extra strain.

Safer to use a portable jump starter in my opinion.

That I would like to understand not to start any arguments but just for curiosity.

The hybrid is built to generate power / energy and has a powerful electric generator while a regular car only has an alternator that I would be more worried about.

The 12V part is supplied by a DC/DC which doesn't have moving parts like the alternator.

Maybe I totally off in my thinking but that's my logical explanation please correct me if I'm wrong.

  6. Can my 2016 Fusion Hybrid be used to jump start another vehicle or will that damage it? I've heard mixed thoughts on this topic. I need to jump start our other vehicle (GMC Sierra) but I don't want to damage the battery in the Fusion.

    Not a problem!!

After your FFH is running the 12V battery as no more job to do everything else runs of the engine/HVB. Just make sure you use the charge point under the hood as described in the manual.

Just for reference I gave my wife's Explorer a jump start a couple years ago without issues.

    Good luck

  7. Interesting how opinions differ :)

We have to wait and see how the different trims will finally look like and be different from one another but I'm personally not a big fan of the chrome spoke across and into the rear lights.

I'm pretty sure the new Sport trim will get a lot of attention and even more so if the gas prices keep falling.

  8. I like it too. Looks clean and crisp unlike the gaping overdone front ends of the new Toyota's.

Agreed only that odd looking edge over / around the fog light doesn't quite fit.

Also the grill looks a little more round along the front edge than the current front end.

  9. Just an update. I let the dealer know about it and they had to replace the whole stick shift. I was told it is one part and the plastic cannot be ordered separately. I feel like it was a waste since everything else is fine with it but the warranty took care of any cost.

Sounds it was pretty easy taken care of. That they replaced the whole stick shift doesn't surprise me. Right after I took delivery almost 3 years ago the plastic knobs for the battery door in the trunk fell off and they had to order the entire trunk liner just to get the two knobs replaced.

  10. Did they test it per the procedures outlined in the service manual specific to the hybrids? I doubt that could happen in 5 minutes.

No way they did. I'm not even sure if they didn't just use the engineering test mode to look at the batteries current status. I'm not if there's a status but they left screen was changed when I picked it up.

I was in a slight time crunch so I didn't start a discussion about TSB or load testing it.

On a side note apparently all recalls can be performed including the restrain control module.

  11. Well add my '13 FFH to the list of 12V battery failures.

Went outside this to drive to the office for the first time in two weeks and nothing... didn't even unlock.

I didn't feel like messing with it @ 6 AM so I telecommuted like I have been doing more often lately.

Got back to it later this morning and hooked it up to the battery charger and left it for a good 5 hrs or so.

Checked back and the charger showed the "battery is dead light". Called my dealer for a new battery but they wanted me to drive over so I jump started mine.

They "tested" (within less the 5min) the battery and said it's good and charging. I said no no that battery is no good anymore and they happily replaced it with me paying $120 for a new one.

At least I now no longer have the fear to be stranded somewhere with a dead battery (until this one dies I guess).

Hopefully I don't have to see that damn BS message anymore.

  12. I think there is some truth to the "close to an ABS event" comment the Ford engineer. Here is why.

So far everything we have heard is at low speed <20 MPH but I had the sensation at least twice on a freeway exit ramp. Even though it only lasts for a fraction of a second at 45 - 50 MPH it's no joke.

Reason I think there is some truth to the ABS event comment is that is all instances the ramp was slightly wet and I could definitely feel the car being on the edge of having grip at that speed.

Yes I should have taken the exit slower and it wouldn't have happened but the FFH handles so well and predictable (except for the sudden lack of regen braking) it's part of the fun driving this car.
