Well it's time for another update. Took the car to the dealer yesterday to get it fitted for a spare tire. I have to drive on dirt roads and if past history is a predictor I'll need a spare. Talked about getting a full sized spare but it wouldn't fit in the well. He's ordering a doughnut spare that is the same size as the one he took out of a 2013 Fusion with 17 inch tires. He feels for a short term spare it should work. Well with the weather warming up the past few days the long term average mileage has jumped up to 38.9. I now have over 7300 miles and almost 2800 electric and 400 regen. Can anyone expkain the regen miles? Yesterday we went to our favorite diner for breakfast and went about 8 miles and according to the computer got 74.9 mpg. Now not to be deceiving its all down hill and the ice barely ran. Coming home obviously its all up hill and got 34.5. Still the average for the trip is 54.7. Soon I hope to get the studded snows taken off and get the 17 inch michelins back on. Unfortunately they are predicting a return to snowy weather for the first part of the upcoming week. To tell the truth I'm getting tired of this long winter.

Just an update on how the car is doing. Currently the long term average is 38.7MPG with about 6600 miles on the odometer, almost 2500 electric miles. yesterday we had more snow and the temperature on the way to work was 5F. Very cold windy and snowy. We've had about 10 inches of snow over the last week and more expected today and this weekend. I was hoping that now that spring had arrived the winter would go away and I could get the studded snows off the car but that doesn't appear like it will happen any time soon. Very pleased with the car so far.

Just an update on how the car is doing. The long term average is now up to 38.8 and slowly climbing. This week the paved roads finally started to clear off a bit, although the dirt roads are still snow covered, and I'm back to getting over 44MPG on my way to work and over 38MPG on the way home. During the recent bitter cold and snowy spell mileage dropped off to about 40 on the way to work and 32 on the way home. Hopefully with spring just around the corner the mileage will continue to improve. Now that gas is over $4 per gallon I've had many friends inquiring as to performance and mileage and all I do is show them the gages and they walk away saying they are going to have to consider one. After a ride they're sold.

Well got an amazing 65.6 mpg on a twelve mile trip today. Fortunately it was mostly down hill. Return trip was around 35. Long term average is at 38.8 and showing signs of slowly increasing now that the weather has moderated slightly. I never though I'd say 30F was moderating but after this long cold spell it feels almost warm. Freezing rain tomorrow so that should be interesting. Took my car to the local dealer Saturday as he wanted to show it to a potential customer. The customer looked it over and made the dealer a sale. He's giving me a free oil change for bringing it to him. So far I'm very pleased with the car. Got about 4600 miles on the od.

Just an update on how things are going. I now have just over 4000 miles and the long term average has fallen a bit to 38.7 MPG. I figure that it must be weather realted. Heavy snow and below zero temperatures definately impact this cars mileage. But still getting 38.7 MPG with studded snows, extreme cold, and snow covered roads I don't feel is too bad. In my old Montego I would be getting around 21 or 22. This car has the same comfort level and so far has handled the snow wonderfully. Well its off to work. Hope you all have a good day.

What changes would you like to see?

I think it would be nice if adjustable peddles were available for the little lady just like on her Taurus -
Just thought I'd keep everybody informed. Mileage peaked at 39.5MPG long term average. It's fallen back a bit to 39.0MPG. Seems the -7 morning lows and +7 highs with snow covered roads and no ability to use cruise due to snow covered and icy roads the average has dropped off a little. Supposed to warm up a little next week and maybe the mileage will go back up. Trips to work that were averaging in the mid to upper 40's are down in the 30's. Trips home that were in lower 40's are now in mid 30's. Spring isn't to far away I hope.

Knowing what you know now, would you still buy?
Allegany replied to fusionTX's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
I would definately buy the car again. Long term average 39.3mpg. Recent trip to Albany 41.3mpg. The only thing I would do differently would be to get it with more options. Went with the SE and luxury package. Would have gotten many more upgrades if I had known how much I would like the car. Also I felt sad for the people driving the Subaru Forestor and later down the road the Subaru Outback who took out sections of guide rail along I88. Bent them up pretty good. But State Troopers were on scene so no reason to stop. -
Well had to take a trip to Albany for my job. My long term average is now 39.3 MPG, it's never been reset. The trip was 576 miles and I averaged 41.3 MPG for the trip. When I left this morning it was 39F in Albany and when I got home it was 18F. So far still pleased with the mileage for being winter. Got into some snow and icy conditions on the way home car handled it just fine. Love those studded tires.

Well the past two days have been near 60F. It's amazing how much snow has gone away. The long term average is now up to 38.5MPG. It really leaped up with the warmer temperatures. Unfortunately tomorrow Winter will once again raise its ugly head.
-
The mileage keeps slowly increasing. As of today I'm at 37.7 MPG on the overall since I got the car. Today its around 38F so about the warmest temperature that I've dirven it in. Stopped by work today and got 49 MPG on the way and 37.8mpg on the return. Very windy here today rainy and warmer than it has been in quite a while.
-
Well went to work today. 22.3 miles one way. When I got there it said 44.3 mpg and .4 gallons used. The temperature was 24 when I left and when I got to work it had fallen to 18. On the return, got just over 40 and used about .5 gallons. Less than 1 gallon to and from work according to the computer. In my Mercury Montego it was at least 1 gallon each way as I was averaging about 22.5 MPG. I have 415 evmiles and 1082 total miles. The long term average was up once again to 37.3, and the outside temperature was 37 when I left work and 30 when I got home.

As for my driving technique, I've found that I keep the left screen on Engage and then for accelerating I use the cruise+ button on the steering wheel. It seems to accelerate quite quickly and if I have to brake because of other slower drivers I use resume to get back up to speed. Except for starting out from a standing start I rarely use the right foot. I have a lifetime average of 37.2 climbing slightly virtually every time I take the car out. Yesterday I got 44.5 on the way home from work. Dry paved roads and snow covered dirt roads and temperature at about 32f. This weekend it's supposed to get up into the 50's so we'll see if there is further improvement since the temperature has struggled to get to 32f since I got the car.

Well as I've said before I have Hankook Studded snows 225-50-r17 on all four. The weather has generally been cold and we're getting another 2" of snow as I type. The paved roads have mostly been clear except for some drifting. The dirt roads are snow covered and quite messy. Went to breakfast this morning got 55.1 on the way down the hill and 23.8 on the way home for around 39mpg. Long term mileage holding at 37mpg.
-
Went grocery shopping this evening. Got 53.8 on the way to the store and 33.9 on the return. 44.3MPG average for the trip. Not bad for having studded snows all the way around. Temperature was 28F. Long term average now up to 37mpg.
-
Well I had to go to a meeting today and it was interesting. The car now has over 800 miles on it and on the return trip I averaged 50.1 mpg for a 22.3 mile trip. This raised my average mpg to 36.7. It was a little warmer today around 34 F and it wasn't snowing. Mileage is still climbing but slowly since I have never reset the long term average. Just an update.
-
Well it was off to work and back today. Approximately 45 miles. I'm still at 36.4 MPG. Didn't gain on the long term average today. Maybe it was the 19F temperatures or the fact that the road has 2-3 inches of mealy snow which is like driving on a sandy beach. When you let up on the gas in this type of snow it feels like I put the brakes on. It's snowing hard right now so I'm hoping they get the road plowed in the morning. Most of the roads were in good shape it was really just the first and last 3-4 miles that has the mealy snow.

Well just to keep this thread going here's an update. Overnight we had another couple of inches of snow. The car now has 696.6 miles and 258.3 ev miles. The weather today went from 17F this morning to about 19F this afternoon. The car is now averaging on the lifetime summary 36.4 MPG. It is creeping up slowly. Remember that I do have 4 studded snow tires not the high mileage tires that came on the car. The ones they took off for the snows were 17inch michelins. Very pleased with the mileage so far. It seems to be going up slowly about .5MPG average everytime I take it out. Like the car.

I think you should have left the Hybrid badges on the car. First responders are trained to treat hybrid badged cars differently due to the high voltage battery should you be involved in an accident. This could create a hazardous situation for them.
-
Well I now have about 260 miles on the car. Yesterday we got another 6+ of snow and temperature was around 22F. I was driving through the snow before the roads were plowed and I'm now averaging around 35mpg. I have about 105 miles on electric and break score is at 96%. Car runs well in snow, and mileage is still about 12 mpg better than the 06 Montego. hopefully the weather will break and I'll get to drive it in more normal conditions. Since the roads here are very steep I was using the downhill button on the gear shift to hold back the speed. It works great and I like the icon on the dash so you don't forget to turn it off.

Poor MPG ... Should I take it in?
Allegany replied to Nmadole's topic in Lounge - Off Topic Discussion
Welljust topped off the tank for the first time. Getting 36.0 MPG I had only 158 miles on the car but the gas was cheap where I was. The car is equipped with Hancook Studded Snow tires and the roads are still messy and snow covered. The outside temp has been running in the low to mid 20's. So far I'm very pleased with the car. I just can't figure out why it didn't come with a spare tire? -
Well I was doing a little more reading in the manual and was wondering why there was no jacking instructions? Turns out there is no spare tire or jack. Who's brilliant idea was this. The menus are a little difficult to go through. How do you get to the tacometer? Also when I tried to get my Sirius # to set up my account according to the instructions all it did was preset the station. Well a little more reading tonight and maybe I'll figure it out. Oh ya we had 18 inches of snow last night, so I spent the morning plowing out my driveway. Got 85 miles on the car and it says I'm averaging 32.8 MPG. It has Hancook studded tires and the outside temperature is a whopping 19F.

Well picked up my new fusion this afternoon, unfortunately by the time the paperwork was completed it was a virtual blizzard. Decided to take the car home instead of taking a drive. It handles the snow real well and the ride is impressive. Have to figure out all the controls though. I'll be reading the manual tonight to try to get more familiar. Like the car ride, handling, and it certainly has enough power to handle the steep snow covered hills.

Looks just like the one at the top of the page

Well I ordered my new Fusion Hybrid on October 6. It arrived at the dealer last Wednesday Dec 19. I was supposed to pick it up last Saturday but cancelled because they were predicting 15 inches of snow. Actually got around 8 inches. Scheduled to pick up this afternoon even though they are predicting 18+ of snow for this afternoon and evening. Hope to get it home before the snow starts
