  1. I used to drive about 50 miles one way to work and there was an extended period where they were doing construction and speed limits were reduced to 50 and this limit was being strictly enforced. It was amazing the difference in MPG. As someone posted at 70+ I was averaging about 35 MPG but, at 50 I was easily running in the 40+ MPG range. Cold weather reduces my average MPG by 15-20%! In the winter I average just over 30 MPG and I cannot see a tremendous difference in the heat of summer.
  2. This is the whole reason I have turned to the website tonight!!!!! I've never even seen the little wrench that you are speaking off but, I often get the dash notice that the side impact system or blind spot system is not working but, I suspect this is because the lens on the camera is dirty. It usually corrects itself but, the other day I was driving down the road and noticed someone was tailgating me. I'm generally not a slow driver so I glanced down at the speedometer. It wasn't working at all! I'm faily certain it had worked on the way to work. I then wondered if my trip odometer and info providing mileage to next fuel stop were working, thinking that I migh soon run out of gas. It appears all of these gauges are working-the two trip odometers and the normal odometer are all working. The two timers are still ticking away as they have been for the last 30,000 miles. Hitting the reset button does not clear them and I have taken it to the shop at least 4 times for this problem while under warranty and finally just gave up. I was afraid to let them take the whole dash apart thinking that may cause problems in the long run. I never use them anyway and since I looked at them now it appears one is working correctly again. I, like you tried turning the car off and on several times thinking the speedometer might work again but, no luck yet. It has been about a week. About 2 weeks ago it sounded as though something was rolling around in the dash. Two days later it stopped. I truly beleive that noise was a result of a chipmonk or other little rodent hiding a nut under the hood. It stopped just as mysteriously as it started. My car has 52,000 miles on it. Please let me know if you find anything out about the problem.
  3. Call me stupid. I used he keyfob to unlock a 1996 Camry. I opened he back door and sat the grandson in and then handed him the keys to entertain him. I buckled him in and reached for the door to close it. Just as a gave it a shove I heard the locks click. Turns out it had a feature that if the security system was disarmed and doors unlocked a FRONT door had to be opened within a specified time or all doors locked. I couldn't leave the baby in a store parking lot to get help so I had to flag down another shopper and ask her to call the locksmith. When he got there he used the Jimmy bar to unlock the car after giving me instrucitons to open the rear door and grab the baby as soon as the car unlocked because he was going to set off the alarm. I was just happy the baby stayed content in the car playing with the keys while I stood on the outside of the car waiting the locksmith. I now dispatch for AAA and you would be amazed at the stories of how keys are locked in cars with key fobs due to a sequence of events. I think sometimes it would even shock the manufactuers.
  4. My 1996 Camry had a feature that prevented valets, etc from accessing the glove box and/or trunk. I don't remember it being a seperate key though. I remember using the feature on it on several occassions.
  5. I also have a rattle and cannot find it's origin! I thought it was at the dashboard near the windshield but, now have come to the conclusion it only seems to be coming from that location because the sound is coming up through the defrost vents. The noise sounds like a nut rolling around in the dash. It isn't as loud at slower speeds but, I think that is because the vibration when I hit a pothole or RR track is less. I have gotten the car up to significant speed and quicly applied brakes thinking what ever it was would roll about but, got nothing from that experiment. Any suggesitons????
  6. I have an annoying sound in the dash of my 2010 Hybrid. I don't remember hearing it on the way home on Friday-altough it was Friday and the radio might have been a bit loud. On Sunday when I got in the car it sounds as if there is a nut rolling around in there. I tought it was up near the windshielde but, then recognized that this might only be where the sound is escaping the dash through the defrost vents and the problem could be anywhere inside the dash. It does not seem to be related to the temp system as it does not matter if the fan is on or not. It does not seem to be as bad at lower speeds but, that might be because it occurs when I cross RR tracks of hit a pothole. I have attempted to get the vehicle at a high rate of speed and suddenly apply brakes thinking that if it is something rolling around it would do it again. It does not! I am seriously wondering if a varmit has hidden an acorn inside the dash of my car. It isn't unusual to find corn, straw, etc in the dash boards of autos out here in the country. The most recent work on the car involved having all four tires changed. This was done about a week ago. Surely this could not have anything to do with the air pressure sensors and something being lose, could it?
