Navigation Breadcrumbs

Recommended Posts

How long do the breadcrumbs last? I originally thought it was time based but now I know it isn't clock based. It could be run-time based for having the car turned on though. Or is it based on distance or number of breadcrumbs dropped?

There are times where the breadcrumbs are incredibly useful and I'd like to understand how long they last.

Breadcrumbs? What are these breadcrumbs of which you speak? If they could be incredibly useful, I'd like to know about them. Thanks!

Pages 361 & 408 in the 2013 Owner's Manual. No mention of how long they last.

Pages 365 & 419 in the 2014 Owner's Manual:

Navigation Pref's > Breadcrumbs

Display your vehicles previously traveled route with white dots. Turn this feature ON or OFF.

Thank you. I looked at the manual, but I fail to see how having these breadcrumbs would be useful? Now having a mute feature or a pause function during navigation -- that would be useful.

Breadcrumbs have always been screwed up on MFT. They only seem to last for about 30 miles and are only recorded when you have the map on the screen. On the older system like in my 2010 MKT they last for about 300 miles and are recorded all the time.

They are very useful if you want to know where your car went when somebody else was driving it.

If you are travelling while NOT following a programmed route and at some point in time want to go BACK over the same route that you came, I think it would be very useful.

There is a mute feature. With the latest update, it appears right on the main NAV map screen.

Before the last update, I think it was on the options menu.

See the white dot on the freeway where I had been? That's a breadcrumb.

I like them because they allow me to see where I've been. We rarely program routes into the navigation unless we're using it to keep track of our range in the Focus Electric. You are correct that they are only "dropped" if you have the nav map up on the screen. I feel like they last more than 30 miles though, but definitely less than 65-70.

I could always see the crumbs on the MKSes when I returned from Las Vegas, usually about a 150 to 200 mile round trip, depending on why we went there. On the MKZ-h, I have no idea how far the 'drop', but as others have noted, they only get dropped when the nav screen is on, which I find kind of useless. Breadcrumbs were nice when away from home and wanting to go back where you have been but have no idea exactly where "there" was. For instance, if we passed a scenic view and later wanted to go back, but were just driving aimlessly in the first place.

My $149 Garmin does that exact thing, I do find it very handy.

Hi everybody,

Most of you seem to be referring to the breadcrumbs feature in the MyFord Touch system. Please let me know if anyone is referring to SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation instead. That information will be a little different. Follow this link if you're not sure: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/all/get-started-with-sync/how-to-identify-your-sync-version.html?sync=sync

The breadcrumbs feature in MyFord Touch is designed to add white dots to your map display to show your vehicle's previously traveled route. This setting can be accessed by pressing the 2 gears at the bottom of the screen, followed by SETTINGS, and then NAVIGATION. Under MAP PREFERENCES, you'll see an option to turn this feature on or off. The system will hold up to 50 miles of breadcrumbs at a time. Once 50 miles worth of those white dots are shown on the map, the oldest dots will begin disappearing.

I received your PM, hybridbeart. Thanks for pointing this thread out to me.

My commute is a total of 40 miles per day and usually when I get back close to home the breadcrumbs are gone. I'll have to reset and check again.

I suspect that as you retrace your route, the "crumbs" will disappear......if you use the same route.

I hope you've still been able to find your house! ;)

It will duplicate breadcrumbs, usually almost right on top of one another.

50 miles, now we know. Thanks Kim!!

Not buying this. I reset the breadcrumbs yesterday morning (turned them off, then back on) and drove a total of 46 miles (for which at least 6miles did not have the map active, therefore no breadcrumbs dropped) and this morning the breadcrumbs for at least the first 5 miles of my commute yesterday morning were gone. Therefore my conclusion is that I'm getting less than 35miles worth of breadcrumbs, not 50.
