Fog lights on with high beams

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to make it so you can use the fog lights at the same time as the high beams?

I put HIDs in the fog lights, and they turn off when I turn on the high beams (as expected). However, I want to make it so they stay on with the high beams.

The reasoning for this is excessive on/offs on the fog HIDs wear them out quicker, and the HIDs take a while to warm up to full brightness.

Find a power source under the hood, and through a relay, power the fog lights by using a splice connector attached to the high beam power wire. There are other users on this site that can help with finding a power source under the hood and possibly recommend a relay that will work. Details can be easily worked out by someone with basic auto electrical skills.

I don't have a 2nd Gen but I would assume high beams turn on 4 headlights at the same time? If so, check your state laws. Many states don't allow more than 2 pairs of head lights on at the same time.

Only way to do this is bypass the switch and put in your own key on switched 12v for the fogs.

Do you have pics of your fog lights? I still haven't made any mods on my lights, and I really want to do something like that. Did you install them yourself or have the installation done professionally?

What's your objective with this ?

High beams are dangerous in any situation where fog lights are really useful because the high beam blinds you with reflection.

If you really are in a foggy situation, you should turn on the fog lights and disable the automatic high beams.

Actually brighter fog lights are sometimes bad too.......especially if they aren't aimed properly.

Now having said that, would simply turning the headlight switch to ON from Auto also disable the auto-high beams ??

Auto high beams dont come on with parking lights, at least not on mine.

You can turn on the fog lights when you have just the parking lights on.

Which might actually give you better visibility than with the low beams on too.

But driving in thick fog, smoke or blinding snow is a no-win situation.

You should get OFF the road, on to a side road or parking lot (not the shoulder) and STOP until the conditions improve.

Around here, it can be blinding dust storms too. You should also turn off your lights, since people will see them and think they should follow them, thus possibly running into the stopped car.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I did the install myself. The fogs were really simple in comparison to the headlights. They didn't need a wiring harness (35W). The most difficult part was removing the bumper to access the bulbs, but I was already doing that to work on the headlights.

I can post some pictures when I get back home.

My objective is to just keep the fogs on at the same time as the high beams. I live out in the middle of nowhere, and wild life is a major problem. I do notice that my fogs give a wider (left to right) light pattern than the low beams, and that the brights just aim down the road. In all honesty, my brights don't really do anything as my low beams are so bright, but they do help reflect off signs and eyes of animals.

That's a valid objective.

Just as long as you don't do that in actual FOG, it should be OK.

Yeah, funny thing about fog...

The HIDs I put in my fog lights actually make it harder to see in fog with them on, or at least super thick fog.
