My Commute

The thread on getting better MPG's led me to post these results so that others could have a better understanding on my economy. This is a log of my daily commute, obviously the reverse is also done every day, but I seem to get a few MPG better on the way home for some reason.

 

Commute:

Weather: 61 and very foggy, dew covering entire car
Vehicle Systems: Climate set to 68 and AUTO, front defroster ON rear defroster ON radio FM (loud), headlights ON (AUTO)

 

Start, battery appx 50%, ICE not running
back out of driveway, start moving forward, ICE comes ON

.3 miles @ 20mph or less in housing plan
stop at stop sign
1.5 miles @ 55mph on rural 2 lane, speed varies from traffic, avg is +/- 50mph
stop at red light
3.1 miles @ 55mph on 4 lane divided, set cruise to 58mph
stop at red light
2.7 miles at 55mph on rural 2 lane, still using cruise at 58mph
turn off
.5 miles at 45mph, 2 lane all uphill
stop at stop sign
1.1 miles @ 55mph rural 2 lane, still using cruise at 58mph
speed limit change
.4 miles @45mph, stop cruise
turn into parking lot

 

My dashboard shows:
44.0 MPG .218 gallons used

 

Torque with Fuel Economy plug-in shows:
Elapsed Time - 0 days 00:15
CO2 Produced - 4.26 pounds
Avg. Speed - 41.41 mph
Fuel Consumed - .22 gallons
Economy - 43.7

Your commute seems easy enough to make as detailed as you did. Mine would most likely be 3-4 times as long.

 

I can do a full time lapse video which would show my "awesome" commute.

Here is a trick I discovered, provided you had the FCIM update done and the AC can actually be turned off. Set the HVAC to manual, select floor and defrost. After a bit of time the AC turns off completely for defrost. Prior to the update, the AC would be on all the time when defrost was selected, regardless of the other settings. It became a battle of hot feet and cold faces. This could gain you a bit more MPG since you aren't sapping HVB with the AC on.
