Default phone volume when calling Sync Services

Recommended Posts

When calling Sync Services the default phone volume in the Energi is really loud. It is not loud like that for any other phone call. How do I adjust this?

It might be as simple as turning the volume down, by knob on the dash or down arrow on the steering wheel, when Sync Services is speaking. This works in all other aspects of MFT, probably in Sync Services also. If you already tried this then I don't know.

Yes, but I'm talking about the DEFAULT volume. It defaults to about 10, a reasonable volume would be 4 or 5. It isn't this loud for navigation or phone calls to anyone else. It's only this loud for Sync Services.

Try setting the volume on the phone while you are using it on Sync, some members on the Flex Forum say that will reset the Sync default volume.

Example, dial a call on Sync Bluetooth, use your phone controls to adjust to the level you want then hang up. The next phone call hopefully is the same volume as the last one.

Maybe.

Each volume can be set individually, for navigation, phone and Sync Services. They will come back on from where you left them. I was out tonight and tried Sync Services, the volume control raised and lowered the volume. I left it to where it was a reasonable volume for the driving conditions. I tried it again later and the volume came on where I had previously left it. I tried it again after shutting off the car and again the volume came back on where I left it. If your volume changes back to a loud DEFAULT volume after a restart, then there is probably something not right. I didn't change the phone volume while testing this. With my FFH, the default is where I previously left the volume, for phone, navigation and Sync Services.

The default volume is turned down for navigation & voice prompts. I have not seen where to adjust the default volume for Sync Services. It is also ridiculously loud in the Focus Electric. No other phone call has loud volume like this.

Hey, where's Kim??

My understanding was that when the iPhone is connected to Sync that its volume buttons don't do anything. I guess I'll have to check again the next time we use Sync Services.

I remember having low volume and that was tied to the phone. Somewhere there is a menu for the voice volume, have you checked through all the settings?

I think you are correct in saying the iPhone volume buttons don't do anything.

I think you're saying, you can control the volume, but it doesn't stay where you left it. When you go back into Sync Services again the volume is very loud. This doesn't happen on my FFH. I take it your other Fusions were not this way. I know no way to set a default volume.

We never used Sync Services in the black FFH because no one told us about it. It would have been incredibly useful. I don't remember if the volume was always loud in the white FFH. It's loud in the Focus Electric & the Fusion Energi. It does not remember when I turn down the volume.

I have checked through all the menus and have been unable to find a setting to adjust.

Hello hybridbear,

The volume can only be adjusted while the SYNC Services audio is coming through the speakers. Adjusting the volume on the phone while connected to SYNC will not change the volume of the SYNC Services prompts.

When the SYNC Services options begin playing, check where the volume is set in the lower left corner. Does the screen indicate that the volume is turned all the way up when initially connecting? Turn the volume knob and you should see the volume adjusting in the lower left corner. Once you select a volume you like, end the SYNC Services call. Press the VOICE COMMAND button and say SERVICES to pull them up again. Check to see if the volume changed and let me know what happens.

This is what I have done. We call Sync Services and the volume is at 10. 5 is a more reasonable volume. I turn it down to about 5. We hang up the phone. Next time we call Sync Services the volume is back to 10.

Maybe I'm doing something that is causing this. Should the car behave differently for a Sync Services phone call from any other phone call? How does the normal phone volume work? Will the car remember the volume level from the previous phone call or does it revert to some default volume for each phone call?

It is supposed to stick where you put it on the previous call, sounds like a bug.

I tested this using my Samsung Galaxy S4 and it held my changes. I attempted to end the call using the button on the actual phone. I also tried hanging up using the button on the steering wheel. My volume adjustments saved both times.

Which software version is your iPhone running? I'd like to see if I can locate one and test it out to see if that is normal behavior for that phone.

iPhone 5S, iOS7. I tested this again last night. The volume starts out at 14 every time I call Sync Services. I tested making other phone calls in the car and the volume does not start out at 14, the car remembers the volume from the previous phone call.

Last night I used Sync Services for directions to test this out. Each time I went "off route" because I was avoiding traffic and the system called to recalculate, the volume was back at 14. It didn't matter if I made other phone calls at a lower volume, every time the car calls Sync Services it sets the volume to 14. This happens both when dialing the main Services # to download directions and when calling the secondary number that is dialed to update a route.

Since the Focus Electric is still at the body shop I am unable to test it. I will test it once we get it back.

Hopefully Sync 3.7 will be released soon and then this bug will be fixed.

Hi again,

I hunted down an iPhone 5S with iOS 7 (which was way easier than I expected ;)). It did not demonstrate the same issue that you're experiencing.

I don't believe your system is functioning as intended. I recommend performing a master reset before testing again: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-sync-myford-touch

While our Focus Electric was being repaired from being rear-ended we had a 2014 Ford Focus SE with Sync but no MFT. It exhibited the same issue. I used Sync Services for directions a few times in the ICE Focus and the volume started for each call at 17, no matter how I changed it during the call. No other phone call had this issue, only calling Sync Services. After getting the Focus Electric back I was able to confirm that the Focus Electric does not act this way. It remembers the volume from the last phone call and uses that.

Since there are no settings within your system which will allow you to choose a default SYNC Services volume level, I suggest testing a different cell phone when you get the chance. I'm interested to see if the same thing happens when a different device is connected. Remember to change your active number on: www.Support.Ford.com before testing this.

My wife also has her phone number registered with a Sync account. I'll do some testing with her phone to see how it works.
