Fordfusiontitaniumenergi Report post Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) I bought the space saver spare combo previously listed for the FFH thinking it would fit my Energi. I did not see the pin about it not fitting until to late. I purchased the 2012 Ford focus rim (80.00) and the Continental 16" space saver tire (40.00) from a Altima on eBay. I realized the rim just clipped the rear caliper base. So I ground down the scratched area on the caliper about a 16th, and now the rim mounts on the rear with no issues.I have the space saver rim and tire in my trunk, a Ford windstar jack as listed also, and a jack stand. The plan is to only have the right rear caliper as the space saver side. I now can jack up any flat tire on any side front or back, put the jack stand underneath, remove the right rear rim, install that on the front or back flat side and put the space saver on the adjusted caliper side.I took a 3 hour ride today knowing I had a spare and tools in my tiny trunk. The Continental tire is the same height as my Factory 17" tire. Now by putting the spare on the rear there's no worry about front end pulling. No lectures on removing a 16th of metal in an 1/2" area please. Just trying to help others.Oh, sorry. Hi, new member here on this wonderful site. Thanks so much to "GrySql" that did all the research on a space saver for the FFH.Some people say they never get a flat. I got 3 flats in 3 months. Fordfusiontitaniumenergi Report post Posted August 9, 2014 My wife came up with a neat way to store the tire with a bungy cord. We also wrapped up the jack, jack stand and crank in towels and stuffed them on the top shelf behind the tire. It's all good. If our 45,000 car gets a flat it won't take 6 hours to get it back on the road like last time. 4 darrelld, GrySql, brentw and 1 other reacted to this
GrySql Report post Posted August 9, 2014 (edited) You say you've had 3 flats so far, what brand tire are your OEM's? Edited August 9, 2014 by GrySql
Fordfusiontitaniumenergi Report post Posted August 9, 2014 (edited) Oem Mitchelin X Green 17" Not the tires fault.Bad luck. 1st time my wife hit a pot hole that tore the side wall. That was the 6 hour day.2nd time a screw in my garage punched a hole that caused a slow leak. That tire I plugged while on the car but used a old rubberized plug that came out 3 days later while she was in a shopping plaza. I had her turn the front wheel outward while I put in a larger leather plug.Yesterday I had that removed and had iti internally patched. acdii Report post Posted August 11, 2014 You should have pulled that caliper, ground it smooth and polished it! :) J/K Glad you found a way to make it work.
Fordfusiontitaniumenergi Report post Posted August 11, 2014 Yeah that's possible but I really don't care about how it looks. I only hit a small area. It's great to have the space saver back there. Thanks.
jza80 Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Do you think the spare would clear the rear caliper if you used a 5mm spacer between the hub and rim? Since you had to remove so little material it seems like it might work that way, too. 1 brentw reacted to this

Since you had to remove so little material it seems like it might work that way, too. Thanks for your idea. I did try spacing it out. It wouldn't work because the rub is deep in the rim. Pulling the rim outward only moves the rub outward with at least 6 more inches to go. No regret grinding down the caliper outside area. I drive with confidence having that spare there plus it's high up in the well so we still use the area for food bags etc..... 1 brentw reacted to this
