machoman1337 Report post Posted July 5, 2014 (edited) This has happened twice in the last 2 weeks, and is getting me worried. I can be driving with nav guidance on, and then I miss a turn, which should prompt the GPS to start rerouting. Except that in these 2 incidents, the GPS suddenly decided to report the wrong position and direction of travel, and started prompting me with totally bogus turns. This isn't just annoying, it's dangerous especially on busy highways. I had a clear line of sight to the sky in both cases so signal is not an issue. The fact that the car can't even give me the correct direction of travel is particularly worrying. In Vancouver, it's very easy to tell which way is north by looking at the mountains. In both incidents, I was driving north and the compass insisted I was driving south or west... I have not had the GPS screw up when I follow all the turns without any rerouting. I've also rerouted many times without issue. But these 2 incidents were seriously messed up. Has anyone had such a major screwup with their GPS before? I'm on MFT 3.6 (upgraded myself via USB) and my car was built in August 2012. It should be noted that the first screwup happened when I was on 3.5. It prompted me to stop being lazy and download and install 3.6, hoping the problem wouldn't repeat itself. hermans Report post Posted July 5, 2014 The only issue I've had in either car was I put in the new A5 card in the MKZh and in Canada it kept directing me to exit off the freeway on to non-existent streets for about 5 miles. No other issues.
GrySql Report post Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) I've owned numerous GPS units, either built-in or mobile. It is unfortunate but every single one has given me a bad route instruction at one time or another. The A5 card in the MFT Nav has too, in the FFH I run it at the same time as my mobile GPS unit and compare them, it's interesting to see the guidance differences.Frankly, if I was to pick which I trust more I'd take my Garmin Model 2555 over the MFT Nav, mainly because of the frequent map updates to the Garmin. As you found out, it is hard to replace good ol' common sense and you are wise to not completely rely on them. GrySql Report post Posted July 6, 2014 Is there a way to recalibrate it? Maybe driving in a figure 8 or something? I have had phones that I have had to do this with.On the MFT Nav system the GPS icon may have an 'X' over it if the satellite signal is insufficient for navigation. (pg 410 in OM) Disclaimers are standard for almost every machine or tool we use, our FFH is not unique in that and the Owner's Manual has plenty of them. The usual SYNC disclaimer is found on page 328 of the FFH OM.Note: The driver is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle, and therefore, must evaluate whether it is safe to follow the suggested directions. Any navigation features are provided only as an aid. Make your driving decisions based on your observations of local conditions and existing traffic regulations. Do not follow the route suggestions if doing so would result in an unsafe or illegal maneuver, if you would be placed in an unsafe situation, or if you would be directed into an area that you consider unsafe. Maps used by this system may be inaccurate because of errors, changes in roads, traffic conditions or driving conditions. The TeleNav disclaimer is on page 422, here's part of it:TeleNav also does not warrant the accuracy of the map or other data used for the TeleNav Software. Such data may not always reflect reality due to, among other things, road closures, construction, weather, new roads and other changing conditions. You are responsible for the entire risk arising out of your use of the TeleNav Software. For example but without limitation, you agree not to rely on the TeleNav Software for critical navigation in areas where the well-being or survival of you or others is dependent on the accuracy of navigation, as the maps or functionality of the TeleNav Software are not intended to support such high risk applications, especially in more remote geographical areas. 1 gkinla reacted to this
Waldo Report post Posted July 7, 2014 There is a software update for the GPSM module that is not part of the MFT 3.6 software. My 2014 would occasionally show itself out of position, but since the software update (done by the dealer), everything is fine.

Many owners have this same issue. You claim there is a fix but do not provide any details to enable others to get our cars fixed. You did the same thing with the AC button. Please provide additional information. Most of us deal with incompetent dealers who cannot fix things on their own unless the owner tells them exactly what TSB or what Service Message to look for. 3 acdii, GrySql and srogers reacted to this

Waldo Report post Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks. Do you have the info for the AC button one too? I wish, but there's no documentation on that one. You just have to convince your dealer to update the FDIM module.

Somewhere else it was posted as FCIM and I just want to make sure I give them the correct information. Thanks!

Sorry, my mistake, it is the FCIM - that's the part with the "buttons". The FDIM is the touchscreen. 1 GrySql reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted July 9, 2014 I just told my SA tht the AC wont shut off when you press the ac button, the light goes off, but you can see the power is still being drawn and you can hear the compressor. machoman1337 Report post Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) Thanks Waldo. I'll show this to my local dealer when I have time. When the GPS did mess up, it didn't show the icon that says there's no signal (the kind you see in parking garages). I've had bad routing before on previous cars and even my Garmin but to get my direction of travel totally wrong when there's a clear line of sight to the sky is over the top. Not only is it not true, but the touch screen buttons will always do exactly the same thing as the physical buttons, both before and after the software update. 1 acdii reacted to this
darrelld Report post Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) I had problems using my navigation today as the whole system just froze and could not recover until I rebooted. I had become accustomed to the stability of the QNX based system in my previous Passat and all I need to do is glance at the Microsoft logo to remind myself of why this happens. FordIVTteam Report post Posted August 7, 2014 Is there a way to recalibrate it? Maybe driving in a figure 8 or something? I have had phones that I have had to do this with.Hi Ryan Goodlett, Driving around in a figure 8 would be a lot of fun, but it won't calibrate the navigation system. ;) There isn't a way to adjust the calibration on the MyFord Touch system on your own. This is something that should be handled by the dealership if an issue arises. Thanks Waldo. I'll show this to my local dealer when I have time. It sounds like you may have already walked through this. I’ll provide a link to the instructions just in case: http://support.ford.com/sync-technology/perform-master-reset-sync-myford-touchHave you noticed an improvement since this incident? hybridbear Report post Posted August 8, 2014 Have any of you had your Dealer perform TSB14-0037?I just had it done and the car no longer shows up driving alongside the road or in a field. It may help your other Nav problems too. This was done on our car to fix the issue described in the TSB. We'll see what kind of impact it has long-term. I didn't need GPS to drive home from the dealer so I didn't check it out to see if it is any better. It was rare that our car would show as alongside the road, but it would happen, usually at a critical moment where the GPS would then give incorrect directions because of it. machoman1337 Report post Posted May 11, 2015 Bump because my friend bought a used 2013 Fusion (non-hybrid) and I remembered to tell him to make sure the dealer performs this TSB before letting him drive way. Specifically, it's TSB 14-0037 like what Waldo posted. I had this performed in November 2014 and it fixed the problem (which was starting to get more frequent until the fix, especially when leaving an enclosed parking garage). For prospective buyers of 2013/2014 used Fusions with navigation, please refer to this thread and ask the dealer if the TSB was performed before you take possession of your car! thrasher086 Report post Posted October 29, 2015 The Navi is really starting to get on my nerves on how off it seems to be. Many times on the expressway, it will think I am on the service road. I also see it miss a turn I just made which puts the cursor around a hundred feet away which it will grab onto other roads. It will take a few minutes before it figures out the road I am on which would be horrible if I needed guidance. Anyone have any info on calibrating it? I see the TSB14-0037, but my car's build date is later than 1/6/2014.
