Google Maps on iPhone 5 - Correct Way to Get Voice Navigation Through Car Audio

Hi All,

 

I use Google Maps all the time for navigation and I am having a hard time figuring out the right way to play the Google voice navigation through the Fusion's audio system.

 

It seems to work OK via bluetooth but once I plug the USB cable into the phone, the voice navigation stops. It would be great to be able to keep the phone plugged in so that it charges while I am using Google Maps for navigation.

 

Any advice on the best way to use Google Maps in the Fusion Hybrid?

I don't know about iPhones, but on Androids just switch the radio to the Bluetooth stereo streaming and the Google maps prompts should route through the stereo.

Hmm my iphone prompts through USB without a problem, however, mine is always plugged in, and then started, so maybe plugging it in after it was streaming through BT is the issue, the phones isn't switching to USB.

I use google maps navigation all the time including voice guidance. I have mine plugged in but not into the USB just into a 12V adapter and it works fine.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will give them a try.

 

I like how it functions the way I currently use it where it treats the voice navigation prompts like a phone call and it interrupts whatever audio input I am listening to like SIRIUS or FM Radio, etc. Unfortunately, once I plug in the USB cable the voice navigation goes silent. It sounds like using my 12V USB adapter might be a good option. I will also try plugging in the USB cable into the phone before I start anything up and see what kind of results I get that way.

I have been trying to do the same thing with an Android phone, but cannot get the turn by turn prompts to play over the music. I can only have one or the other. How are you getting the turn prompts come through as phone calls?

Today I was playing USB through my radio, I thought about this topic and pulled over to try Google Maps at the same time. I set the Google Maps to a destination and set the navigation. When I got back on the road the Google prompts played over the music. It wasn't either or, but it was simultaneously. I think you need to have the USB plugged in and playing before you try to use Google Maps.

Hi All,

 

I was finally able to try running Google maps again on my way to work this morning. First, I plugged the iPhone into the USB cable before starting up the car. Once the car was started, I then launched Google Maps on my iPhone.and started my route. That worked like a charm! I was able to listen to SIRIUS radio and receive turn by turn voice navigation prompts from Google Maps through the Fusion's audio system.
